EU+US Playing healing specs offensively in BGs...

At this point, it’s no secret that Resto Shaman can put out impressive damage numbers. Disc has almost always had decent-to-pretty-decent offensive capabilities. People seem to be waking up to Mistweaver’s potential when they go on the offensive. In fact, some healer specs are downright scary when played to their potential.

Is it super frowned upon to queue random BGs as a healer spec and not play strictly dedicated heals? It’s weird that some healing specs do more damage per ability than their DPS spec counterparts, but maybe you want to play offensively and be tanky as funk with your self-healing. I’ve seen seen massive arguments that basically led to an overall faction meltdown in a BG because a healer had insane damage and basically self-healed and not their teammates.

If your a healer its your priority to heal unless your team is a bunch of noobs then do whatever you want.

How do people keep sleeping on resto druids...

Anyway, yea. I play a hyper aggressive healer, specially on my druids. It's not for a desire to see impressive damage numbers, but really I just think to myself "what is the best use of my GCD in this particular moment" and alot of the time the answer is "apply spread damage pressure".

I love healing. But really, pumping out damage is so easy, its kind of an afterthought. rejuv rejuv regrowth dot dot dot dot dot regrowth rejuv dot dot dot dot dot OHSHITAROGUE bearform dot thrash dot. You end up racking up pretty impressive damage numbers just kinda by accident.

I don't think there's anything wrong with getting a little damage in and frankly if I tried to ONLY heal, I'd be doing nothing for a large part of the game.

Do what's best for your team. That will often involve damage, especially as one of the better geared and more experienced members.

i dont think of healers as in a healing role in bgs. i look at them as the OP in every catagory class that we get a limited amount of. they are tanky, do insane damage, have utility etc. and not using that to its fullest potential is a joke.

like only dpsing or only healing is a big mistake generally. and there are even times when you should be going solo to cap a point as a healer in say arathi or eye of the storm, because you should be able to take the attention of 3-5 people just by yourself. this means your team is now 14 vs 10, so they should be favored wherever they are. this is the kind of play thats important to make when soloqueing to make things happen when nothing good is happening

I once ended up in a bg with 3 resto shamans, they were all ignoring their healing spells and just spamming lightningbolt lol... sigh

Imo, the best support is the kind where there is no need for you to support (ie. Enemy is dead) so play aggressively :D cuz its not ranked

We often look WoW too much through the "Holy Trinity" (Tank, Healer and DPS) when we could see if more as the variable classes in Heroes of Storm (like Tyrande).

It's all good if you don't let your teamates die because you are just doing non-critical damage. Holy Paladin may be the least viable class in this bracket for this hybrid support, but all the ranged healers can go for it in my mind.

It’s funny you mention rDruid because right after I posted, I realized I’d left them out and I’ve recently played with and against a few that were fuckin’ crazy good and played real aggressively.

Interesting topic. Tbh, I've always enjoyed exploiting tanking and/or healing specs in pvp, no matter if it was at max level or in terms of twinking. For me, twinking is all about tuning your characters in a clever and unusual way, which in turn gives you an unforeseen advantage versus your opponent.

On my 20 druid I've always "mained" the resto-cat hybrid, however in the later expansions people tend to be very focused with BiS builds and mainstream fotm specs on other peoples behalf. During BGs you are usually told to fit a certain role or play a certain way by raging dutch kids. And frankly, the only reason they'd rage is because they got no skills when they don't have a healer supporting them 24/7. So play whatever and however you like, amigo!

Why are you talking smack bro? Dutch people are hella cool.

My biggest thing with it is to just make sure you are still healing, and playing your role.

If you're playing your role, then who cares if you go offensive, too? But if you aren't healing anyone, and queued as a healer with the intention of doing damage (regardless of spec), then that's detrimental to the BG a lot of times.

That being said, I also find it highly silly to see so many classes do high damage output as heals. I'd be okay with one battle priest style class/spec, but the current trend is a bit odd to me and not something I'm a fan of. Then again, I also enjoy tanks in PVP. So it's all a matter of preference and opinion, really. :)

Yea, I think it violates basic RPG class distinction. Healers SHOULDN'T be damage dealers. I'm alright with maybe having one ability that can make a DPS think twice about engaging, like a monks kick. This trend of seeing healers also doing top or near top damage output is pretty stupid though.

But that ain't gonna stop me from taking advantage of it

Yeah, to have classes top healing+damage+kbs at the same time is pretty absurd.

Reminds me of the brief period in WoTLK when Prot/Holy paladins were OP at certain brackets. Or Shockadins.

But I don't recall any time in WoW (or another MMO) when so many healing classes put out such great damage and have such a high offensive capability.

Then again, things are ever changing. Before you know it, some of these classes will be nerfed into the ground and/or ignored.

A very simple change they could make for resto druids is actually require that my damage spells use mana. I'd be much less inclined to spam dots if it actually made me consider my resource usage.

Like sure, cool. Don't nerf my damage but make it cost something. Make me make a choice.
