EU+US Old 10 day guest pass vs current f2p

Happened to be in possession of old vanilla 10 day trial guest key. adding it to current bnet don't do anything. one gm i spoke to said he sadly couldn't help as it would be like adding game time to an account which is already time limitless.

i do believe few people here used old 10 day keys and got actual gametime while remaning on f2p accounts some years back.

Anyone know how to approach this? share the knowledge yo.
