New patch happening tonight - queue bgs as a mercenary tomorrow!

Hey guys, just a short thread highlighting the new mercenary queue feature.

You may have seen a bunch of f2p/20 threads about the new mercenary feature that is currently only out in the US, but it will be coming to the EU tomorrow and then hopefully we can finally get some BGs popping in this bracket. The main reason we can't get any Bgs popping is because there are no legit Horde 70 players (or not enough) but there are easily 20+ alliance players online on Argent Dawn on a daily basis - now, when signing up as a mercenary half of those alliance players can become hordies!

Let's make it all happen tomorrow! Prepare yourselves!
 
The mercenary NPCs are currently bugged. On Alliance side the battleground mercenary guy doesn't spawn, and on Horde both the battleground and ashran npcs don't spawn.

I tried talking to the Ashran guy on my level 70, but obviously my level wasn't high enough. So we'll just have to wait and see when the BG npcs spawn. And yes, I did confirm with a level 100 character that it's not just a case of "you can only see this npc if you are x level".

they only spawn if there are long BG/ashran queues. and currently thats not the case.

Boredom is one of the first signs of depression, if what I said was boring you I sugguest talking to your consultant.

On topic: hopefully we can use the feature if bgs popped it would bring some activity to the bracket!

So [MENTION=11973]Manaki[/MENTION] and I have been doing some testing with the mercenary feature. Here's what we found out so far:

  • The battleground mercenary NPC seems to be missing on alliance side
  • Both the battleground and the ashran NPCs seem to be missing on horde side
  • Talking to the ashran NPC as an alliance will give you an error message saying you're too low level, however a [Mercenary's Medallion of Adaptation] will appear in your bags
  • However, some players (seemingly random) won't get the trinket from him
  • Once you've talked to him, queuing for skirmishes will sometimes place you on a horde team (meaning it'll place you on whatever faction is needed for the fastest queue)
  • We don't know if your ability to be placed on a horde team is related to having the trinket or simply having talked to the guy
  • If you get placed on a horde team your alliance-only titles and tabards are changed into their horde equivalents - and they return to normal once you exit the arena
edit (new info):
  • The ashran NPC disappeared, confirming that the NPCs are only present when the maxlevel ashran/BG queues are long
  • After the NPC disappeared, and after relogs, we were still able to get placed on horde teams


So we're speculating that this will probably work for battlegrounds too. You should all go talk to the NPC in Stormshield (link) and queue up for random battlegrounds. Let's try to make a pop happen tonight once more people are online :)

Confirmed that the Merc BG npc is bugged so likelihood is that this is the only method we have at the moment. It works for skirmishes (have screenshots) so i don't see why it wouldn't work for Bg que.
 
Qued random skirmish on my 95 horde warrior, turned out that i qued as alliance without doing the steps above.

Just ONE BIG FUCK UP BY BLIZZ ))))))
