Hey Phobia, thanks for making this thread. I was in your twitch chat today asking about aspiring hunters. What do you do every game? What are your steps to victory. Obviously walk to mid fight but then fill in what you do next. I notice you D a lot but then I'll see you with a flag in your hands the next minute. (That's more objective game, my question is more towards the hunter side. But hunter-objective play I would love to hear about too)
Cheers and thanks for the thread.
Hey! yea so kinda like what I was saying in my stream hunters have many jobs depending on the situation.
So as a hunter from the gates opening, I usually go mid to help my team damage and/or find the efc rdruid crossing in steath, however in most cases you want to disengage from the fight and have enough time to run back up ramp to get back to the flag room or at least be coming up to the base as the efc picks. your objective here is to 1v1 the efc and possibly get a kill. Now a team mate of yours, depending on the situation might join you to help you land the kill on efc (usually a rogue or another hunter). Be careful though for the efc might have a rogue with him escorting him.
So thats the first part of the game. After that if neither team has pick, or you are on D and your FC is walking flag over. You can stay in Flag room and stop/kill the pick. however if you are by yourself and you see (through tracking) that their are more than one coming to pick, and you know u wont get the kill, then you should run (avoid your forsure pointless death) and go help your flag carrier get across.
Other than sitting D stop pick, when you are mid you should be cutting. Cutting is a VERY important job. Cutting is when you are in mid or in a mid fight and the enemy is trying to cross over (usually along the side trying to sneak by) you need to get to that person and start slowing and attacking him to either kill him or force him back to his side of the map) this allows you to control the enemy team and keep them on their side of the map which makes it harder for their FC to pick since you know hes alone (or with a rogue/druid due to stealth)
Now for when both teams have the flag. When both teams have the flag back in base hunters can do a few different things. You can stay on D with your FC and help him due to the utility of Hidden tracking (allowing you to see rogues and druids in invis and stop them from getting an opener) and also using the utility of Roar of Scarifies on the FC when he is taking to much damage. The other thing is go on O for a EFC kill. For the most part you shouldnt go alone and depending on how many people they have on D (and how many stacks the EFC has) as your team mates to help you.
FCing as a hunter is a lot better than people think. If your FC is dead and you need to go for a pick. Or you just killed the EFC and now your FC just capped the flag, he will be far away from. So i like to go for a repick to either snowball flag caps or stop their fast-cap (where after you cap they pick and try to rush it back to base before your FC has a chance to run back across and pick) Use your hunter tracking and track hidden as a tool while fcing to keep yourself from running into the enemy team. Its amazing to know where people are. You then want to get the flag to your FC and pass it over to him.
In PUG games sometimes you may not have an FC so you might have to end up fully FCing which is fine too.
-Now keep in mind that there is no like cookie cutter formula for hunter play that will win a game for you. You just have to understand your role and make good in-the-moment choices to help your team win. Also each hunter plays slightly different but i think most hunters would agree on these base-line strats. I hope all goes good and be patient and just play games. You will see improvement as long as you are putting forth the effort. If you have anymore questions dont hesitate to ask in my stream/in game mail/real ID/whisper/ or this sight =) best of luck! -Phobia
