I cringe when I see them. "Rougetwink" (YES IT IS ROUGE ON PURPOSE I AM MAKING A POINT). "Twïñk". "Tvvink". "Twìnkmasta". "Gnoamtwink". "Twinkélf". These names are frequently coupled with a stark lack of talent and gear (although I will be fair and note that this is not always the case, and I have seen some very good people with names like these). I think to myself, "By doing this, this person has officially made it impossible to level these characters and not get funny looks from...oh...just about everyone." I did see a level 70-ish night elf warrior the other day with a name that was obviously a relic of having been a twink back in the good old days. So I thought I'd ask you guys. What thought processes do you go through when thinking up a name for your twinks? I've always tried to keep my naming relevant, but not necessarily tied to my situation (i.e., as a twink). I also don't like ûsíñg løts òf åççëñt mârks, because it looks silly (though I've occasionally used "ì" because it's rather unintrusive). So my names frequently turn out as actual words. Cooperation, my priest. Logicality, my paladin. Shikabane ("corpse" in Japanese), my undead rogue. Querulous, my druid. Names, put simply, that I won't be embarrassed to have. They may not be the best names ever, and not RP/lore relevant either, but I won't regret naming them as such.



(If you gave your twink a "loltwink" name, I'm not trying to offend you >.< Please do feel free to list your ideas about naming, whether they disagree with mine or not! I'm open for discussion! :))

Well personally, i find a good frequency of names related to eachother are fun and show people "Omg, are you (So and so)??" Why yes i am, how did you know? "Your name is very VERY similar :) Nice" Why thank you my friend. "Here, have 1,000g for having such an amazing name!!!"



Ok i exaderated that last part quite a bit.. But still!!



I cant tell you how many times ive been saved by a guildie of my main whispering me on my twink going "are you in my guild?", saving me from a 50 minute que talking about whatever.



There are two names that i base mainly to all my characters on.

Twinkzruz (i didnt even bother trying twinksrus, but it was open :( Oh well, even more unique). I even created a guild <Twinks R Us> on staghelm, then it got out of control and the drama between ALL of my members got into flaming and even got as vital as Sql injections and keyloggers and hacking and leveling twinks to 20 and deleting 70's (Pre-BC), and i didnt want to disband, so they can keep their bitching, but leave me out of it, then the guild turned sour, and was riddled with bug abusers and farmers, and then the person i put in control of my guild tried to shut my twinking down on the realm, and denied that i created the guild. Lol

Names dont give or take a persons skill, but it can say a lot about what kind of player it is..



Personally i would love to find great short names. I love Tour, its just perfect and short and people dont get why i have it... But i give Horde Tour's of their Spirit Healer >:)



And i was lucky enough to save the name 'No' on 6 realms, and soon will use those names on a twink character.
 
Most of my names are pretty simple.



Involving 2 parts, 1 part generally from the class, and 1 generally from the race, although its not always the case.



Holytotem - Draenei (Holy) Shaman(Totem)

Sshadowblade - NE ((Shadow)meld) Rogue(Blade)

Holyheavens - Human (Heavens) Paly (Holy)



There a few expections though ...



Zillá in hebrew means shadow, and is listed as a girls name, so a female shadow priest.
 
I usually get my names from chars in books that ive enjoyed. Rant Casey being a character from Rant by Chuck Palahniuk( the guy who wrote fight club). Thrawnx is from star wars books. and Jameshowlet is wolverines real name. Yea im a big nerd.
 
I have a 39 hunter with a SUPER SRS RP name, Battleforge, from back when I first started the game. Then Ive got about 10 variations of Subpar or Mediocre. And a 19 shaman named Cyclone, who I want to transfer to ruin but I dont want to lose my leet name :(



Im not totally against names with special characters and shit in them, its just the gear that usually goes WITH those names that pises me off
 
I like to name my twinks something that I think will be memorable to opposing players, that way when I destroy them they will fear me ;)

I also hate using accent marks, I want all my names to be original so I don't get confused with someone else.

Honkimatonk (it's a tank, name compareable to Beepimajeep)

When I named my twink I would always pick something I could relate to.

Torious is how you would spell my IRL name in english.

Premo, DJ Premier's nickname (favourite producer), never finished that druid though.

Iriscience is a rapper from Dilated Peoples.

Bøglund; the word Bøg means faggot in swedish. Named my next lvl 1 Boglund to keep my crazy ass famousness repshit with the next twink as well + easier to /who list me.



Also if I saw a cool name on TV I would write it down on my cellphone and use it later.

Used names like Ndugu, Imani (girl on everybody hates chris), Corèda (shaman in portugeese or something, ofc it's a warrior).
 
I get my names from...everywhere - make them up to sound cool/silly, get them from books I read (only small on the side characters, I will NOT name an elf Drizzt, or other fantasy shit) some I have are:



Spooksters -> stuck with this forever, basically my gaming tag

Ogopogo -> fucking lake monster in the Okanagan bitches! (where I live)

Spookyspook -> super gay female-version of Spooksters

Raffiki -> my cool troll shaman, Lion King 4life <3

Tiennek -> small character from R.A.Salvatore's forgotten relms

Voodooyoudo -> like it just 'cause it's cool, same character as Raffiki (had to name change when I transferred him to Medivh)

Viramus -> 19 priest, just like the way it sounds

Avro -> hunter twink I had in the works, named his pet owl Arrow (Avro Arrow was the most expensive, extensive fighter plain created by Canada during WWII, went out of commission because it cost too much and missiles were better :3)



Stuff like that...then when my friends and I make characters to level together, we usually goof up the names to fuck with people:

Peachpie+Kiwipie+Cherrypie = 3 female alliance characters we made

Dimbit+Bimbit = dwarf hunters my friend and I made for fun leveling

Chumbawamba+wambachumba = human mages, same reason as ^



I will NEVER make a character with the word twink in it, for reasons stated by the OP - but I do try to make it something that people might remember, if I ever find a character I really like and play enough I'd want the opposite team to be like "Shit, they got X and Y we're fucked"

My first character that I twinked was named Súza (after a char named Suza) to honor a lvl 19 hunte rI met when I first played wow for the first time. He learned me allot about the hunter class and we kept keeping in touch with eachother, and then he just quit :'(

So I made that name to honor him.



And Bragh was sorta cause I friend had talked about names that sound hordish (he use Bharg Kargh etc) so I just though of brag, and added an H for the Horde look : )
 
Twinkytoes - I regret naming him that every time I look at him, but I can't change name or else my forum name / account names will make no sense.



Watchyaface - Stole it from an epic rogue from my home server



Nickyy - Girl version of my name Nick.



Happybuddy - I was 10, and he was a gnome mage, and it was the day I got WoW, I was ecstatic.



Bubbleboii - Hes a priest



Jessic - I named this toon after my X-Girlfriend.



Backspace - I thought this was my coolest name to date, it's Backspace key on a keyboard :D



Flertilizer - I honestly don't know.
