This is Vet but some things apply to pure FTP.
I thought about writing some detailed things but ain't gonna happen.
For my AGI/INT toons, I want gems for my Hellscream Heirlooms (I found out the primary stat appears at later levels than 20). So, the fastest way is Shadowlands Chromie time and the exchange of 2000 honor for 5 marks for +3 AGI/INT gems. As soon as I can hit BGs, I am there. The upgraded Shadowlands ilvl 67 epic quest rewards are not bad IMO.
At 20 for dungeons, I do TBC dungeons for easy gem slots. Then screw around with the BFA gem slot drops. My last and my most dreaded grind is the WoD dungeons. During these grinds, I get mats for enchants and bags. Later while bored, herb for alchemy flask.
BTW if you meet me in BG, I sometimes play like shit because I am in China (300ms at best). My process is based on my desire to play BGs rather than make the perfect twink.
