1. Introduction

Hey guys! MrCer here to give you the load down with Resto Shamans. I spent quite a few hours doing nonstop research on Resto Shamans and how they function. I've actually never played the actual class before so this was just as helpful to me as it will be for you!

First off, everyone should know that every healer class is viable. Holy Paladins, Resto Druids, Priests, Monks, and especially Resto Shamans; they are all viable healers for your raids. But there are a few nice abilities that shamans have that give them the edge! The biggest edge is, infinite mana! I'll go into that later :)

But before I go into all of that...Lets go over what is actually the 100% Best in Slot for a Resto Shaman. I will not add sub-best in slot because the guide does not work around sub gear. This build will only work if you push for every item! Lets jump right into it!

2. Race

Pandaren

- No Matter how I look at it, Pandaren is going to be the best in slot Race. This is because of their food buff. Double the food buff is like wearing an extra 2 items. No other race come in comparison. While other Races like Orcs and Draenei do technically offer some extra healing, Pandaren will be more useful still.

3. Professions

- There are only 2 Viable Professions at level 50 as a Resto Shamans. Other professions do offer great benefits, but these two will top them off by a long shot:

A. Engineering - This will give you the Best in Slot Helm and your best in slot Feet. Engineering also offer great utilities such as bombs and repair bots. Engineering is an absolute must.
B. Alchemy - Alchemy increases all your elixirs/potions by quite a bit. As long as you know the recipe, you will benefit from the Mixology buff(this increases the effect from elixirs/potions/etc). Alchemy is also the key to maximizing your healing output and your infinite mana pool.

4. Talents

- For your talents/glyphs, This is currently Best in Slot:

Mists of Pandaria - Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

In some situations, Stone Bulwark Totem and Astral Shift may be more useful. However Nature's Guardian will be more immediate and will actually reduce your threat on the target that is hitting you.

For glyphs, you will you:

Glyph of Riptide - Item - World of Warcraft
Glyph of Healing Stream Totem - Item - World of Warcraft

Chain Heal), I advise you to use mouseover macros such as:

  • #showtooltip
  • /cast [@mouseover] Healing Wave

If you use an addon to heal, then don't worry about this :)

8. Armory Links

Sadly, there aren't even any Best in Slot Resto Shamans. So Here are the only two I can think of:

Çér @ Spinebreaker - Community - World of Warcraft
Silvey @ Trollbane - Community - World of Warcraft

9. Tips

1. You are going to need to farm rep for the following factions:

A. Your own Guild
B. Sha'Tar
C. Cenarion Expedition

Cenarion Expedition gives you the Best in slot Flask: Flask of Distilled Wisdom - Item - World of Warcraft
Sha'Tar gives you your best in slot trinket: Alchemist Stone - Item - World of Warcraft
Your guild rep gives you the cloak of coordination, which is your best in slot Cloak.

2. Buy this Recipe: Recipe: Major Rejuvenation Potion - Item - World of Warcraft

3. After you have the Major Rejuvenation Recipe and the Sha'tar Trinket, you no longer should have mana issues. This potion will return over 3.3k mana if you have this trinket and the recipe learned. Basically, all your mana is returned by over 100%. This means you can focus all your stats into Int/SP, Haste, and Crit. This will help you push your HPS as high as possible.

4. Get your cooking up to at least 250 so that you can make your own Juicy Bear Burger - Item - World of Warcraft . This is super easy to farm, and it's an easy 24 Intellect(if you are pandaren).

5. Your Haste cap is 8.32%(68+ Haste). This will give your Riptide an extra Tick, which overall is a huge impact on your HPS seeing how Riptide is your majority heal. This gear guide was designed to get you to that haste cap, while losing the minimum amount of your maximum intellect available in the game.

6. If you are trying to farm Cenarion Expedition rep or Sha'tar rep, I found this forum that explains it a little on how to farm it with Ethereum Prison keys. Maintankadin • View topic - Farming Ethereum Prison Keys

9. How to heal with what???

Here's how you learn what to heal and with what and when :)

1. Riptide

Riptide is going to be your primary heal and will always be your top healing done. Riptide increases your healing received from Chain heal by 25%. The Healing buff from Earthshield and Riptide do stack, so that's a 45% increase of healing received from Chain Heal! Riptide also provides your Healing Surge with a 30% increase in crit chance. It also reduces the cast time of your Healing Wave by 30%.

2. Chain Heal

Chain Heal will be your most commonly used Casting Heal. This is because Riptide compliments Chain Heal. Riptide most likely will be scattered across your entire raid, which will help because You'll be using Chain Heal right after you use Riptide. And just to remind you, Riptide's Healing increase does stack with Earthshield's Healing increase!!

3. Earth Shield

Earth Shield is a very handy ability. Earth Shield triggers when it's user takes damage. What's nice is this is rarely ever an overheal; this is because it only procs when they take damage. Very handy and it also increases all healing received by 20% from YOUR heals only. So this is very handy to have on your Tanks!

4. Healing Stream Totem

Most Resto Shamans don't even realize how useful this is. Healing Stream Totem will heal every 2 seconds for about 7-8 ticks. It automatically heals the person in your group who is currently the lowest in their % of health. It also provides them with a 10% damage reduces from Fire, Frost, Nature for 6 Seconds. Incredibly powerful and it actually might even end up being your top 3 heals.

5. Healing Surge

Healing Surge is a spendy Heal, but that does not matter in our case. With Riptide's Tidal Wave buff, your Healing Surge will have an addition 30% crit at all times(you should be spamming Riptide anyways). And when your heals crit, it also gives out this heal:

6. Ancestral Awakening

When you critically heal with a single-target direct heal, you summon an ancestral spirit to aid you, instantly healing the most injured party or raid target within 40 yards for 30% of the amount healed. This is very useful with Healing Surge because it's your strongest Direct heal and it will crit most of the time.

7. Healing Wave

Your slow and low-costing spell. You'll rarely use this because you have no reason to conserve mana. You wanna push your HPS as high as possible. Never worry about your mana pool other than knowing when you are at 0% mana, then use your mana potion to be at 100% again. But with Tidal Wave buff, this is actually very close to being as fast as Healing Surge. If for whatever magical reason you are completely out of mana and your potion is on CD, then at this point; use this.

10. Consumables

These are your best in slot Consumables:

Juicy Bear Burger - Item - World of Warcraft
Flask of Distilled Wisdom - Item - World of Warcraft

I hope this helps all you other resto shamans and that it all makes sense to everyone.

Even though I disagree with quite a few things in this guide personally, good guide non the less for this specific way of playing shaman.
