1. Races

Will list what I think of the races and what they are best suited for.

1.1 Alliance

Draenei -
Gift of the Naaru - An extra heal which is never wrong.
Heroic Presence - 1% extra hit, very useful for Elemental and Enhancement, but as Resto you will get instant cap.
Shadow Resistance - 1% less damage taken from shadow spells, always nice to gain what little benefit you can versus those 24 shadow priests.

Nice for supporting.

Dwarf -
Stoneform - Removes all poison, disease and bleed effects and reduces all damage taken by 10% for 8 sec. Nice for dispelling those crippling poisons.
Mace Specialization - 1% expertise with maces, useful for enhancement, also makes hit capping easier for dwarven elemental shamans with heirloom mace. But it is pretty useless as resto.
Frost Resistance - Reduces frost damage taken by 1%.

Your best Alliance choice for FCing.
Recommend this race for any shaman due to the mace special making hit cap easier.

Pandaren -
Bouncy - Not wrong if your under pressure and jumping of tunnel roof or base roof.
Epicurean - Doubles the effect of the food you eat, a little extra stamina or intellect is never wrong.
Gourmand - Allows you to get 390 Cooking instead of 375.
Quaking Palm - Works like a gouge, might come handy if you or your FC is under pressure or to CC healers supporting EFC

Very bad for resto but good for elemental/enhancement

1.2 Horde

Tauren -
War Stomp - Stuns 5 enemies within close range for 2 seconds, very useful in D to realease pressure from you or FC for a short while.
Nature Resistance - 1% resistance from nature damage, always nice to take a little less damage from the shamans and boomkins.
Endurance - Increases your HP, always nice to have a little more HP.

Good for FC or as support in D.

Troll -
Beast Slaying - A little extra damage vs pets.
Berserking - Increases your melee, ranged, and spell haste by 20% for 10 sec.
Da Voodoo Shuffle - Reduces the duration of all movement impairing effects by 15%. Reduces the effect of uncleanseable slows such as Crippling Poison and Conc shot.
Regeneration - Health regeneration rate increased by 10%. 10% of total Health regeneration may continue during combat. Not that useful but a little regen is always nice.

Very nice supporting race with the 20% haste buff for faster heals in O or D. The haste is very nice for elemental/enhancement.

Orc -
Blood Fury - Increases your Spell Power for a short while. Gives you a little extra power in those heals.
Hardiness - Reduces the duration of stuns, makes that HoJ last a little shorter if trinket is on cooldown.

Stronger heals but I do not recommend orc as resto unless your going for the looks. Decent race for elemental/enhancement.

Goblin -
Best Deals Anywhere - A little discount buying whisky.
Better Living Through Chemistry - Allows you to make Healing Potion
Pack Hobgoblin - Allows you to access your bank anywhere for a minute on a 30 minute cooldown.
Rocket Barrage - Launches a rocket causing a small amount of damage on your target.
Rocket Jump - Makes you jump a short distance, very nice for FCing to gain a little distance between you and the attackers.
Time is Money - Passive decrease of casting time.

Your best Horde choice for FCing

Pandaren -
Bouncy - Not wrong if ur under pressure and jumping of tunnel roof or base roof.

1.3 Summarize

Goblin for Horde.
Dwarf for Alliance.

2. Talents

Astral Shift - Reducing damage taken by 40% for 6 sec. Can be nice to reduce the damage taken for a while.
Nature's Guardian - Whenever a damaging attack brings you below 30% health, your maximum health is increased by 25% for 10 sec, This effect cannot occur more often than once every 30 sec. This is the best talent for a shaman currently.
Stone Bulwark Totem - Summons a totem that will surround you with a shield, but as the totem goes away so does ur shield, not very viable and I recommend you go with one of the other two.

6. 1v1

6.1 Restoration

Rogue if you find yourself 1v1 with a rogue, remember to keep flame shock and earth shock up at him at all time, try to kite him through different and difficult terrain jumps and fake cast.
Warrior if the warrior is an f2p he has no interrupt and should be of no real threat, just keep flame shock and earth shock up and keep yourself alive until he dies.
Paladin if your trinket isnt on cooldown you should have no problem killing a bad protection paladin, a holy paladin will however cause an endless fight, I suggest you just Wind Shear his Denounce and get out of there. If your trink is on cooldown versus a protection paladin you need to keep urself at high hp at all time so he can't nuke you down within a single blanket + hoj.
Warlock Warlock has no interrupt and should be of no threat.
Mage Fake cast and slowly bring him down.
Hunter Hunters have alot of CC so remember to keep urself at high hp at all time and always have riptide on cooldown. If you are fighting a Hunter 1v1 you get will be slowed and outranged. However if you stop walking and stop and cast some heals he probably won't refresh his slow and after the slow wears of you can take a leap off in ghost wolf and get within range for a flame shock. If you are at a place like base where there is a lot of places to get without of sight of him you can easily kill him.
Druid If the the druid is resto or balance it will be never ending and just get out of there. If not, purge all rejuvs and slowly bring him down.
Priest purge the bubbles and interuppt the heals, a good priest would cause a never ending battle in which case you should just leave.
Shaman If the shaman is resto or elemental, just leave, if not, interrupt heals and bring him down.

6.2 Elemental

Rogue if you find yourself 1v1 with a rogue, remember to keep flame shock up at him at all time, use your lightning bolt and earth shock once you get a decent amount of stacks on your lightning shield and fake cast. If you fear death use your thunderstorm to get some distance so you have free space to get in a heal or two.
Warrior if the warrior is an f2p he has no interrupt and should be of no real threat, just keep flame shock up and keep yourself alive until he dies. Use your lightning bolt and earth shock once you get a decent amount of stacks on your lightning shield
Paladin if your trinket isn't on cooldown you should have no problem killing a protection paladin, a holy paladin will however cause an endless fight, I suggest you just Wind Shear his Denounce and get out of there. If your trink is on cooldown versus a protection paladin you need to keep urself at high hp at all time so he can't nuke you down within a single blanket + hoj.
Warlock Warlock has no interrupt and should be of no threat.
Mage Fake cast and bring him down.
Hunter Hunters will probably kill you so try and stay away, if it's a bad hunter try to stay behind him at all times so he can't attack you and just kill him before he does it to you.
Druid If the the druid is resto it will be never ending and just get out of there. If not, purge all rejuvs and slowly bring him down.
Priest purge the bubbles and interuppt the heals, a good priest would cause a never ending battle in which case you should just leave.
Shaman If the shaman is resto, you probably won't kill him depending on his gear but it's worth a shot, interrupt heals and bring him down.

6.3 Enhancement

Rogue if you find yourself 1v1 with a rogue, remember to keep flame shock and earth shock up at him at all time, use your Lava Lash and Primal Strike to bring him down and remember to fake cast to avoid a kick bringing you to the graveyard.
If your trink is on cooldown versus a protection or holy paladin you need to keep urself at high hp at all time so he can't nuke you down within a single blanket + hoj/hoj. Retributions are rare but you can probably kill him unless he's good.
Warlock Try to interrupt the fears and just kill him but a few lucky crits and your dead so keep your hp at a decent amount or you die.
Mage Fake cast and moderatly bring him down.
Hunter Hunters will probably kill you so try and stay away, if it's a bad hunter try to stay behind him at all times so he can't attack you and just kill him before he does it to you.

7. Warsong Gulch

Here you have three options.
Offensive healer that purges shields and healing overtime spells on your team while they kill the enemy flag carrier.
Defensive healer that focuses on keeping your flag carrier alive.
Flag Carrier, your job here is to pick up the enemy teams flag and stay alive until your team can kill the enemy flag carrier, that is when you capture the flag.

Offence: If you are at roof, keep an eye a close eye on all your teammates some of them may run without sight and you need to be ready to heal them. Remember you can Cleanse Hammer of Justice and Entangling Roots.

Enhancement is very good in offence. Your damage might not be the greatest but you can spread your Flame Shock using Lava Lash on your current target which will tick up giving their healers more to heal.

Elemental has the Thunderstorm which also in offence can provide beutiful lineups for a killing blow. Shooting the EFC away from his healers into a LoS point can grant your team the winning flag cap.

Defense: Cleanse dots and Hammer of Justice from the Flag Carrier. Try to keep Riptide up on every member of your defence Purification is your friend, take advantage of it.

Elemental can do very well in defence due to Thunderstorm being very good to keep your Flag Carrier safe and to throw him a heal every now and then. Once stacks get high an elemental shaman in defence can make or break the game.

Flag Carrier: I do not recommend you to carry the flag if you are new to the game as a flag carrier will be under very heavy pressure. Watch more experienced players carry the flag and learn from watching them until you feel you are ready to try it out. Keep Purification up on yourself at all time and as many in D as you feel you can manage.
Here is an example video of Painaid FCing
This a druid flag carrier video and some of the jumps are no longer useable but it will give you an idea of how it works. You will also see some arenas in the middle of it.

8. Arathi Basin

Here you have two options.

Offensive and Defensive.

Resto

If your playing offensive your job is to capture new bases around the map for your team, depending on how many healers your team has nearby and how many enemies there are you can get a little feeling if you need to focus more on heals or on purge the enemies and interupting spells and flame shocking rogues or keep team members alive. Remember to use Riptide alot on diffrent people to keepPurification up. And use cleanse spirit.

If your playing defence your job is to be on guard and make sure the enemies do not capture the base your guarding. If the enemies are approaching and you are to few defending to handle them, call out for help in /i. Rest is the same as above.

Enhancement

Try to stay near your team at all time as you will probably die on your own due to your limited mana pool and the lack of burst but you any non healing class should be fine to face but I recommend you stay near your team and help them defend and attack bases.

Elemental

Elemental is a better "Road Warrior" spec than Enhancement but you still have to limit yourself and don't go fighting alone too much or tragedy will strike you. As elemental you have a nice mana pool and you can regain mana by using Lightning Bolt and Thunderstorm which allows you to use your offheals more frequently.

9. Arenas

Your job here is depending on what your team setup is.
As a resto shamans my favorite classes to team up with are rogues, warriors, hunters.
These classes have decent survival on their own and provide useful spells, rogue has kick, warrior has Mortal Wounds , a lot of armor and can provide alot of damage if played correctly. Hunters has Scatter Shot and other CC spells.

As enhancement you're damage isn't very great but you still provide an interrupt, the purge and decent damage and ofcourse offheals.

As elemental you have ranged attacks, purge, decent offheals, Wind Shear and very good damage. Elemental is great for arenas.

Also check out http://www.twinkinfo.com/forums/f148/billows-intro-arena-guide-geared-toward-f2p-43246/ if you wanna learn more about arenas.
10. Professions

Herbalism and Alchemy is a very good combo for both FCing and Resto.

If you want more information on what professions bring you what bonus check out http://www.twinkinfo.com/forums/f148/comprehensive-profession-guide-lv20-f2p-22950/

11. Words of Wisdom

Resto Shaman is a fun class and I hope you find it to your liking, I hope this guide explained enough for you and that it was a good read.
Do not forget Purification is your friend.

Enhancement is a melee spec so try to always stay behind your enemy to avoid your attacks being dodged.

Elemental is one of the best damaging classes in the game at this level and due to the many spells at your disposal it is very fun aswell.

Well that's it. I hope you enjoyed the guide and please feel free to leave constructive critisism.

12. Changes with latest patch

5.2 changes archived
Flame Shock now lasts longer which makes it even more effective versus rogues.
The heirloom shields that were supposed to come out did not due to some problem with scaling.
A new heirloom trinket however Inherited Mark Of Tyranny did make it and will provide you with 6 resilliance outside battlegrounds and 8 resilliance inside battlegrounds.
Stone Bulwark Totem was buffed but the other two talents remain superior.

5.3
5.3

The heirloom shields made it and they are pretty good but the Shield from Stockades remain superior.
All items scale to level 24 which has made the diffrence between 24s and 20s smaller than ever.

5.4
All enchants from higher levels are now scaling making all enchants possible on all levels giving the P2Ps a massive advantage, the main problem is weapon enchants that scale incredibly. F2Ps will now have more 24s to fight and the gap between F2Ps and P2Ps is once again huge, we will see how this pans out in a few hotfixes.

Halaani Whisky no longer gives 20 stamina but 6 stamina and 7 in bgs due to scaling making it less attractive due to it's price compared to the gain,

re: Dashas F2P Shaman Guide

Great start, if you split it in sections and elaborate a bit it'll be good!

I'd do a search and remove of the " - Item - World of Warcraft" for better legibility. :)

Write out things like "you are" and "through", "ur" and "urself" or "thru" doesn't look very nice.
Minor spelling fixes needed here: realease, dont, opinon, substitue, alot, diffrent, taget, interuppt, isnt, critisism.
"get the heal out of there" ?

Concerning macros:
#showtooltip Wind Shear
/stopcasting Healing Surge
/stopcasting Lightning bolt
/cast wind shear

Why these spell names? Just a /stopcasting will do. :)
#showtooltip
/stopcasting
/use Wind Shear

I'm not sure what exactly you mean when talking about hunters:
If you stand still most hunters wont shoot another conc shot which will give u the chance to get a few yards in ghost wolf before he shoots a new one.
Maybe elaborate a bit. :)

I'd also add some advice on playing in BGs and arenas, just talk about your personal experiences and strategies, etc. ^^
Add some explanation of Shaman abilities and the benefit of Ancestral Spirit for teammates. :)

Read Pino's guide, he wrote cool stuff on professions too, so you could give credit to him and update some things. :)

re: Dashas F2P Shaman Guide

Honestly I've had good luck with bulwark totem and it is getting buffd 5.2, but I haven tried the others so can't offer and insight on them

re: Dashas F2P Shaman Guide

Overall, it's a good guide. Just the formatting needs working on!

Like Yde mentioned:

I'd do a search and remove of the " - Item - World of Warcraft" for better legibility. :)

I'm no expert at Resto Shamans but wouldn't Magician's Mantle be a possible substitute?

And I'd also link the Alliance version of the BFD pants. Some people are actually pretty new to the bracket and if they see the Horde only quest on the one you linked, they might think they can't get it.

Otherwise, it's a nice guide!

Edit: Stillwater's Signet is a Horde only quest! You haven't mentioned any "Ring 2" for Alliance Resto or Fc!

Okey thank you.

It is indeed a nice substitute but It can be harder to get than the heirloom pads.

Must have forget them last night, thanks!

Oh must have been a misstake with the links, I will get right on it.

Oh, did not know that, will edit OP.

Wonderful! :)

re: Dashas F2P Shaman Guide

Great guide. I'll just put in some advices.

1v1

The thing is that you will not kill ANY class that can off heal as Resto because you simply do not have enough DPS to do so. As for rogues, just try to spam heals at high HP. Fakecasting does not always work so just go with a safe way. For Protadins, DO NOT let them get down to 2/3 hp without using CDs because unless you trinket, you're going to get stunlocked to death. Avoid Protection Paladins if you can.

Talents

Astral Shift>Nature's Guardian in most cases. Nature's Guardian has a shorter CD, but Astral Shift gives better survival because it can tank alot of damage at once.

Gear

Cuffs of The Black Elements for Alliance. It's not worth farming Mindthrust.

Also you can color in the gear rarities(optional)

Overall, it's a nice guide. Keep it up.

re: Dashas F2P Shaman Guide

Killing some off heal classes is impossible but some u can just drain mana until help is provided.
No they wont. because natures guardian will heal me even im stunned.
Talents

yes Astral will provide alot of dmg reduction but I like the fact that Natures Guardian heals you when it occurs and as mentioned it has a shorter CD.

Gear

I provide people with their options. If they instead want to farm MTB or go with RFC cuffs is none od my buisness.

re: Dashas F2P Shaman Guide

guide has been updated a little mostly some typos and format.

re: Dashas F2P Shaman Guide

Thanks for the guide, as someone very new to F2P Twinking I found it useful.

I've been using Astral Shift so far but will give Nature's Guardian a go.

I have to say that the Pandaran stun has been pretty handy so far.

re: Dashas F2P Shaman Guide

Im glad you found it to your liking.

Good luck.

Yes, it can be quite awesome.

re: Dashas F2P Shaman Guide

Please change the colors of everything with this color into This color just a lighter blue you find good. The 2nd is much easier on the eyes imo. Also just a hint but like Yde said I would think about splitting it up so only 1-2 are on the same page. If you need to feel free to PM yde to ask for more reserved spaces :p (I taught her how to so she knows ;) ) Nice guide tho! Feel like shammies are underplayed for some reason when it can be a really fun class

re: Dashas F2P Shaman Guide

I only see one spot where that colour is used.

I didnt really see a reason to split it up more than once...
