Midnight Level 11 Class & Spec Performance Rankings

What I'll be putting forward has a lot of caveats, but should still prove useful for people who want to figure out what class and spec might interest them to use for twinking in the level 11 area. Upfront I'll say that warriors are still the quickest for clearing out trash due to them having the strongest AoE, even if against bosses they aren't the fastest.

First is these rankings aren't normalized, I simply used the best gear I had on the character, but I will give each run a gear score of sorts. This is determined by doubling the main stat gained from gear and adding them together with the secondary stats (minus mastery if it doesn't contribute to dealing damage). Obviously a higher gear score will result in faster times, which might mean some classes would beat others if I had better gear on them. Though comparing each classes' specs to each other is more fair since the gear will be mostly the same.

These rankings are based on a single run of normal Halls of Atonement, so RNG will effect the times a fair bit, and the only reason why I picked this is because I currently have my level 11 warrior in there in the TWing version giving a few shots at a speed TW necklace proc now and then (so I can compare the times between TWing and normal once I get the necklace or eventually booted out of the instance itself) so the warrior spot will be represented by my level 10 and level 12 warrior until I can get the level 11 to run the normal version. Additionally I don't have a level 11 shaman, so a level 10 one will be filling that lot.

EDIT: Added in my level 11 Warrior

Halls of Atonement doesn't have any pure DPS bosses, the https://www.wowhead.com/ptr/npc=165408/halkias will fear, https://www.wowhead.com/ptr/npc=156827/echelon will stun and has adds to deal with, https://www.wowhead.com/ptr/npc=165410/high-adjudicator-aleez will have you move around, and https://www.wowhead.com/ptr/npc=164218/lord-chamberlain will move around; so each classes performance does factor in how well they can deal with those particular boss mechanics.

All of these bosses were fought using https://www.wowhead.com/item=173125/revitalizing-jewel-doublet and is basically a requirement to even beat the bosses if they don't have a reliable healing ability. Additionally even with this gem in mind, some classes have difficulty surviving the 10s required for it to activate (which will be reflected in longer kill times as I would have to run to avoid taking damage waiting for the gem to proc).

Also there's the skill issue, as how well these classes do does depend on my ability to pilot them; but at the same time there's not many abilities to use at low level.

At any rate here's what I got in my tests, placed in order of fastest to slowest boss clears:

Gearscore: Main stat x2 + Secondaries
AoE Strength: How quickly they can clear out Echelon's adds. "Mid" rating is if they can clear them barely before first stun. Also a rough measure of how effectively trash can be AoE cleared. Some AoEs are spammable, others not so much; I put in a rough time of how often you can use them based on resource regeneration.

Enhancement (lvl 10)234Failed

Subtlety and Enhancement failed due to not having enough DPS to either take down Echelon's adds or himself before the adds became too much to handle.

Some of the times could be improved a fair bit with better gear, but I think this should give people a good idea of where the classes and specs stand when compared to each other.

I'll probably do my level 20s doing the same thing at some point, though this is certainly a bit time consuming to do; even if it's only one run per spec.

Can you elaborate on what the gearscore integers are for secondary stats? Assuming either % values or stat amounts. Great write up!

I am curious about the gear you used for the rogue specs, also I feel like enh should be able to complete this. I am not 100% familiar with sland dungeons though so I could be super wrong.

All my characters are in at minimum TWing gear, and the main disparity between them is how many sockets they have. My rogue currently has 16 sockets, where as my better geared characters will be closer to 25 sockets. All of them are using some SL gems for the life regen (usually around 6 SL gems).

Enhancement was probably my worst geared of everything I ran with as most of it was TWing gear + SL sockets; but even if I had socketed AGI gear I doubt the performance would have improved that much as the spec simply doesn't have a powerful AoE option at level 11. Echelon's adds will build up in number if you can't kill them fast enough, and that's ultimately what resulted in the failure: Too many little adds that overwhelmed the passive healing from my gems. Specs with zero AOE options got past Echelon via DPSing him down fast enough before the adds became to large in number. Enhancement *might* be able to get past Echelon with way better gear and be able to DPS him down fast enough, but the spec isn't exactly a priority for me.

My good sir... how did you do Halls of Atonement at lvl 10/11? I selected SL at Chromie, went to the dungeon on my 11 Warrior, and everything in there was ?? and one shot me.

I believe it's a bug with the 2nd SL skip, it breaks the scaling for low level characters.

How do you make an 11 evoker?

Outside of waiting for another remix event to show up, there's a roundabout way of getting one https://xpoff.com/threads/escaping-evoker-starting-zone-as-lv10.101257/

So I am screwed then on that toon... I wanted to see if a ring drop from in there would be socketable.

The ring and neck drop from HoA still seem to be socketable for the time being, but yeah if you did the SL skip and the dungeon is level 50 you might need to do something like party sync or get summoned into a low level version of the dungeon somehow. I don't know what the workaround is for that situation.

I have a lvl 11 resto I can try it on, but I am guessing even at 11 with chain lighting talented it would depend ehavily on how fast you can get maelstorm procs. Without windfury or skyfury extra weapon procs it might be a bit difficult.

You'd probably have to go down the DPS Echelon down before the adds overwhelm you route. When I tried spamming chain lightning on the adds a new set of adds would show up before I was done with the first set. When I went down the DPS route, I simply got mobbed by the adds before I could get him down to 0%.

I just saw this post, and I want to say that it is wonderful that people are still gathering data and analysing them.
I do have a few points tho:
I think "Gear Score" means nothing in this context, as evoker and intel class in general will have for sure a higher score than agi/str users due to the weapons. Intel classes get way more intel from their weapon than agi/str class.
What you can do for that is to:
  • Or add weapon damage to str/agi classes (AP gain from weapon damage = 6 * ((Min weapon damage + Max weapon damage)/Weapon speed)
  • Or to go with average ilvl
Both options will put every classes on an equal footing.
Even then, I think the most optimal way to put everyone on an equal footing would be to have the same ilvl for all twinks. Evoker would still outperform due to their armor primary stat passive, but you could tolerate that as its in their kit.

Probably ranking them with ([Gear Score || ilvl]/ Time spent to clear) would gives us a better view to the ranking.

Again, what you did is incredible, continue that way pal!

The main point of all of this was to give people a rough idea of what kind of result they'll get if they pursue a class/spec. That and to see how the class changes were shaking out at level 11.

If I was to normalize the gear, then I'd be using TWing gear; which would have the highest ilvl, but ironically would be the worst performing gear. This doesn't eliminate the complication of mastery which is useless for certain specs. It also wouldn't be fun or as informative for myself, as I grinded out the gear I might as well use the best I have, and also informs me of which class as the most room for improvement with better gear. Another way of looking at it I suppose is a 270 gear score is roughly what you get for all TWing gear at level 11. Numbers higher than that is basically a representation of how much time and effort I spent getting sockets and gems.

At the end of the day what class and spec you pick has a way greater impact on a clear time than the gear you have. Even within a class there can be wildly different times even though the gear is going to be roughly the same strength across the specs.

Glad people are finding the info... well informative!
