I've hit 20, run some instances, done some WSG's - what now? Advice thread!

Howdy fellas, I hit 20 about two days ago on AP and I've been reading the threads on this forum rather voraciously for the past few days. I've seen posts about fishing, DMF, cooking, farming, professions, etc and while I'm very excited to begin the grind, I'm not exactly sure where to begin. If you guys could give me some suggestions, I'd be much obliged.

P.S. My current plan with professions is to max out LW and make a fuck ton of armor kits. After that, I'm not sure what order of professions I want to have. What I think now is that without WFH I'll have Eng at least, with WFH I would go for Herb/Alc.

Once again, any guidance as far as anything will make me very happy!

you only need one stack of +16 armor kits (20 of them)...that'll last you most the rest of your life. there's only 3 pieces of gear you'll use them on. Also, keep in mind part of leveling leatherworking requires you to make +8 kits...and those are good enough for temporary gear until you get what you consider BiS.

1. next you need to go through the gear on wowhead and decide what your goals are...then start running those dungeons and start saving up some honor. i would do this BEFORE you grind out the rest of your quests...most definitely before. nothing sucks worse than picking the wrong quest reward (except maybe picking the wrong race).

2. I personally wouldn't bother with engineering at themoment...you have enough other things to worry about.

good luck...i also think this is a question not very well addressed in most guides.

Well, your bracers, gloves, boots, pants and rings can all be replaced with Bis quest items. (quest bracers you can get are pre-pain the in the ass bis) Engineering for a temporary headpiece, and jewlcrafting for your neck. If it was me, I would work on the quest items 1st to get some hit rating. Here's my armory for reference to the items I spoke of. Happy questing, grinding :) you have some long and epic quest lines to do. Hope this helped and have fun :)

Thank you guys thus far! The bracers and ring suggestions on your pally are very much appreciated. Does anyone have a link to a BiS Resto (or Balance) set? Thank you all!

For awhile you can make yourself SUPER Busy getting geared and working the Professions.
Enchanting - Save All the greens from questing and instances then DE them the Enchant Scrolls 3-4 of each particular slot for BiS
Engineer for scopes or sharpening stones depending on class and weapons.
Just about every Proff is going to have something for you. (Except tailor) You can make a few stack of Potions to best ready you for BG's and/or Scribe some Scrolls to use too. JC for beginner pieces. But a few BG's and you can go to Ashenvale to get some Honor rewards there to get you off to a great start.
When DMF comes I level each one to 75 to get the extra 4 tokens and make things I need along the way
the eye patch from The Stockades is BiS Head gear
So much to offer at first, fishing and cooking and First aid if applicable all will come with time. Then its you your fellow F2P's Farming Silk for 1st aid or Lion meat and BG BG BG and some "so called" Arenas... that do NOT offer any rewards but the Joy of winning. Then some dueling outside GS

first few steps:

1. max skinning / learn enchanting
2. get tabards
3. run instances (random finder), get your items, get reputation for bags and roll "greed" on the green items to disenchant (dont roll disenchant cause you dont gain skillups that way)
4. skin in WC until you have around 250 light leather some light hides and some stacks medium leather
5. drop skinning learn lw and skill it / disenchant the greens you get by lw
6. run other instances for rep, items and get other profs (mining), which you level while waiting for instance-pop or while questing for gear

..but it locks him into engineering to use the goggles... imo, he'd probably be better off worrying about armor kits and enchants before he worries about a temp. hat.

...personal pref i suppose.

good point, so that's why people are farming the fishing hat (from the daily) i guess

I have a question about enchanting. Should I hold onto Enchanting until I have BoA staff/Chest/Bracers for chants? I've also figured that grinding Enchanting back up to chant a BiS piece wouldn't be that big of a deal. Suggestions?

you can easily create enough enchant-scrolls (9 silver a piece) with the enchants stuck on, so you can drop the prof when you have 5 of each chant you may need anytime.

You can enchant Enchanting Vellum and store that for later use. But it's also not that big of a deal to re-level if you forget something. Some people re-level all professions for every Darkmoon Faire. ^^

EDIT: Whoops, Bengalosch beat me to it. ^^
