EU+US Introduction - Old Player Trying F2P (or VET?)

Weko

Veteran
Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself! I just recently got back into WoW with the Classic beta hype and was just trying out F2P (or VET?) and I love it.

I've been scouring this forum for awhile now reading guides and trying to learn more about this community and how F2P and VET accounts work. It feels like an ironman mode - a challenge to get as much out of the account as possible without paying. ;)

Anyway, I currently have three level 20 "twinks": resto shaman, fury warrior, and a mage
I would link my armory but this is my first post and I'm not allowed.

Feel free to add me! I'd love to get more involved in the community. BNET: Knarley#1934

EDIT: US - Gurubashi (H)

Are you EU or us? Welcome to the wacky world of retail wow. If you have any questions or anything feel free to send me a message. I'll add you when I get home if you're us! I was also an old school player from back in the day.

Seems like some nice solid class choices you should have fun with :)

Sorry, I edited my post - I'm US!

Welcome to the party ;)

Thank you!

Welcome aboard! Always nice to see new people taking up the f2p lifestyle. We're a small group around here but we're always happy to help if you have any questions

Thanks! It started with just an interest from the classic wow beta. I just needed to scratch the itch but I'm actually having a lot of fun with it!

Also, I recognize your name as the author of a lot of the guides I've read! Super cool. :)

...and was just trying out F2P (or VET?) and I love it.

F2P are those of us that have signed-up for a free "Trial Account", while VET are those whose paid account has run-out of gametime and now has "Veteran Status" (with almost all of the same restrictions)...

...a challenge to get as much out of the account as possible without paying. ;)

Ironically, I take a similar approach despite having a drawer-full of Battlechests that I've already paid for... I've simply never have had enough free-time to feel that I'd "get my money's-worth" on a retail account. So, I figured I'd stick to a single F2P character/race/spec and see how much of the game I could actually accomplish without any "help"... and seven years later I still haven't run-out of new challenges! :D

Welcome to our masochistic lifestyle! :p

I am using a separate account I made specifically for F2P just under the same email - so I have access to my heirlooms, mounts, toys, etc.
Does that make me a "VET"?

I still dabble in OSRS Ironman so i'm used to the lifestyle. :)

...that would be "linked" F2P account (as opposed to "pure" F2P account, which would be starting "fresh").

A VET still plays on their "main" account, but they obviously aren't allowed on their high-level characters (until they buy more gametime).

I dont think its rly masochistic tbh

Legit every conceivable "accomplishment" feels like a million times better when it's done on a pure f2p, everything feels so much more earned rather than just hitting up the AH or somethin, sure it's more hardcore but that's what MMOs are supposed to be yknow

Agreed, but I was referring more to the arbitrary "abuse" that shortsighted developers seem compelled to periodically inflict upon us...
  • Solo a wandering monster that most players at your level can't? Now we'll hide all of its loot so you get nothing!
  • Earn an incredible achievement? Now we'll send the reward through the mail so you can't open it!
  • Is a random high-level character publicly interacting with you? Now we'll "shadowban" all of your actions so they think you're ignoring them!
  • Loot half of the Glinting Sand necessary to buy a useless Sky Lantern? Now we'll cut you off!
  • ...not to mention often-absurd level-restrictions on quests/boss-loot/portals/objects/etc.
When you rock the F2P banner, you simply never know when Blizzard is going to slap you in the face (again)...

Oops... I meant to say: "Have fun"! ;)
