EU+US gems for 60-69 twinks

Deadly Ornate Topaz (Agility)
Potent Ornate Topaz (Intel)

Both can be found at the Accessories Quartermasters in the PvP areas in Stormwind/Ogrimmar

If your a strength user farm for the untamed blade and enchant it with crusader. The constant price will more than make up for lack of a good +str+crit gem

You can also use nightmare tear and other gems that give ‘+all stats’ on your armor. I believe the gem gives 7 all stats at level 85.

That’s why I use https://www.wowhead.com/item=19334/the-untamed-blade with crusader. You get crazy uptime which makes up for lack of strength/crit combo.

My ret set is not BiS but I’ve had no issues being top dmg BGS. https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/character/stormrage/Tzartwink

I use the socket pieces such as the green helm and dungeon pieces from Outland for my prot pvp set.

Why? Socket gear with the base str on it plus vers gems, which is an amazing stat for ret? I legit am curious why you do this. Not being mean, maybe I’m just missing something. Also, your in my guild, lol.

Hmm.. plate users are more difficult to gem coz 6/6 str/crit gems dont exist (seems stupid to me).
There are multiple choices:
-6 str gems seems to be the best
-3/3 str/crit gems are poor choice coz I would not personally trade strength for crit. Depends on your playstyle but i doubt it is better then 6 str gem
-6 secondary stat gem may give you maybe good haste or versatility but idk if its better then shitton of strength
-meta gem is low in this level and gives nearly no stats. I would not use it
-pvp power/resilience is useless stat now. dont collect that
Also about that weapon.. i would go for good proc weapon as Tzartwink said, or for the best damage per second (only if the difference is significant). I would not go for weapon with sockets for melee at any cost.
(sorry for my english, hope you understand :D)

At first, it was because of stat templates. I was just collecting any and all gear available to a level 60 so I could get that high iLvl. Now that those days are over, and may they never come back, I was left with piles of gear to sort through. After jumping around from Outland/legion invasion and classic set ups I found that, at least for me the socket gear benefited prot and holy far more than ret. Then honestly after spending days looking at it I didn’t want to refarm for a third set of Outland socket gear when the tier 2.5 stuff was already performing incredibly well.

I agree with others. The combo gems benefit intellect and agility users far more and while the base value of more strength+those peocs would be even more effective I don’t see it as being worth the effort.

I feel like if you have the time to mess around with 3 different specs, you probably have enough time to get another gem set. Especially since u already have a set, so you could just power they instances and get insta queue cuz ur tank

Seems this thread has strayed from what the simple original question was, but just wanted to clear somethings up...

In terms of BiS full str gems is still the way to go for a str user, you just can't get value out of vers/haste particularly with them scaling worse at 69.

Crusader is very good for sub 60, but scaled to 69 in bgs it degrades to like 61 str on proc, while Landslide scales up. The difference in uptime from my testing on a 2h is also negligible, Landslide was like 35-40% in bgs and crusader was like 40-45%. So I can say for most use cases that Landslide is superior for instanced PvP in this bracket.

You can also use nightmare tear and other gems that give ‘+all stats’ on your armor. I believe the gem gives 7 all stats at level 85.

EDIT: i was totally wrong here, for some reason TSM fucks with the scaling until it is actually in your inventory. Tear are +6 str/stamint/int/agi and are worth using.

Damage wise, my Paladin gets the same contribution from Vers as Str at a 19:8 ratio. If we consider that an extra half of Vers' value is added in it's survivability and that it multiplies proc buffs, Im certain that during proc uptime it would outweigh Str, and while copping damage it will always win.

Running lots of proc gear like Sonic Booster, Banner of Victory, Untamed Blade, Crusader/Landslide, etc? - Think about running Versatility.

Vers will also increase bolt trinket dmg. It's such a good stat.
