It's worth mentioning that if you're using a 2H weapon, the weapon enchant priority is like this:

The 2H enchants beat out the 1H enchants, even though the tooltips say they give less weapon damage. I put a little info together awhile ago measuring bite (5CP) damage on a dummy. Each data point is a measure of 10-15 bites. The numbers don't mean much because my gear wasn't great, but the trend is solid.
  • Fangs of Ashamane - Superior Striking - 799 (1593 crit)
  • Claws of Ursol - Superior Striking - 798 (1593 crit)
  • Gnarled Ash Staff - Superior Striking - 833 (1655 crit)

Based on this Feral Weapon Enchant explained for SL | XPOff, another viable enchant for 2h weapons is Major Striking - Spell - World of Warcraft (wowhead.com), as a second best. I think it is much easier to grind for F2Ps, considering you'd be running TBC dungs for gear anyway, whereas vanilla enchanting is pure cancer.

As for Superior Impact, it is either super rare or no longer obtainable by F2Ps (according to Wowhead).

P.S. after finishing TBC dungeon grind and collecting cloth/greens and disenchanting everything I had enough mats for 1-40 TBC enchanting and two Major Striking enchants (1 spare). Getting Consortium rep from Neutral to Honored took roughly 2 hours, simply ran Mana-Tombs several times.


To answer OP's question - feral druid is still a thing, but it is pretty average. Any spec is a thing, I have even seen a few fire mages recently. If we compare it to other classes/specs, it is average. You get oneshot often. I don't think there is anything peculiar about feral, it isn't superior to any classes in any way, except maybe forms for extra speed, stealth, tankiness etc. I am currently playing feral and I am loving it. It is very hard to set up situations for yourself where you'd come out on the top in PvP scenarios, but when you do - it feels great. Getting massive Ferocious Bite crits to assassinate healers/squishies is very satisfying. Most of the time players don't expect it as your basic damage is pretty low, but those 2k+ crits when you stack 5 combo point Ferocious Bite, Tiger's Fury and a Mastery trinket surprise them all the time.

Berserking
Massacre
Greater Savagery

All boost straight AP

Agility and Mastery, mastery boosts bleeds, which you only really have Rake as a 20, and it's kind of underwhelming.

Obviously, not an option for f2p.

https://www.wowhead.com/spell=1079/rip would go a long way for our kit... Sadly it has a level requirement of 21. I was pretty sure it was available when I made my druid, was very disappointed at first, but still decided to give it a shot. It's a fun, but not a very competitive class in the bracket.

I think feral really needs the straight weapon damage enchant. Here's some more data with 5CP bites.
I haven't tested the AP enchants, but I can't imagine they'd give more damage. A crit bite with a weightstone + weapon damage enchants does roughly 300-400 more damage than just using the weightstone. I'm only looking at bites here though, I'm not sure about general throughput.

So, as a f2p, which I am, can't get Superior Impact, as it says the recipe is no longer available.
Now, what about regular Impact that you learn at Vanilla Enchanting level 200?
Tooltip says adds 5pts. of damage to a melee 2H.
Greater Impact you learn at 240 and it's only +3 damage, or +2 whan not in a BG.
The only thing is the small briliant shard , but I could just walk into Sunken Temple or Strath dead side, to try and get one.
Am I missing something?
 
No1 mentioned it, but "Support feral" (Tbc sockets and versatility, moonfire talent, regrowth pvp talent) was gutted with the regrowth healing nerf and bramble nerf. Now you feel the agi loss from things like circle of flame or every stamina gear piece you put on to increase survivability, before you could go full talasite set and get 1,1k heals. It doesn't seem your kind of feral so shouldn't worry you too much, but stopped me from playing it mostly.

"Bite feral" (ilvl 28 mastery socket gear, bite talent, bite pvp talent/regrowth pvp talent) only felt the bramble nerf and it wasn't much, considering everybody lost something, but bite feral suffers a lot, like it always did, being in an underdog team, because you need to stay in melee to get combo points. A good bite feral in the better team will normally help snowball hard with the big burst, but in the worse team will normally feel underwhelming.

On the gear part, lot of talk (rightly) in the chants part, but remeber that the bs stones add A LOT of dmg and you have to consider them too - feral is one of the specs I wouldn't really recommend for f2ps, but I'm a casual and can't really stand grinds like this (best stone are the dense one, from 225 bs)

Honestly, I've completely overlooked https://www.wowhead.com/spell=13695/impact. I'd assume that it's worse than Greater and Superior Impact because it should be a lower tier enchant, but you never know. I can try testing this later

Although I'd argue for a 3 socket helm. He likely got a perfect roll with speed, hard to pass up for a fractional dps increase.

BC gear is a loss on bite damage but an increase on other abilities, plus you get the extra stamina from the 28s. I would have to double check in instanced though I use multiple sets. Shifty is 100% best geared feral I know of, cant go wrong following that build. Plays very well also from the few times I have seen in game.

Major Striking is for the 1Hander enchant, it is kind of confusing how I have written it after the explanation so it looks like its for the 2H. Ill edit that.

Superior recipe is grandfathered but if you are a vet you should find someone that has it. Pretty sure most of the +damage enchants will beat out anything else.

In the video there is a section of double ele-force on artifacts with lunar talent that went surprisingly well.

I would say feral is mid tier with lots of different playstyles available, expect to be disappointed/frustrated and amazed/rewarded all in the same game.

If you love feral there is no reason not to play it, possibly niche but at the very least its viable.

So, i managed to get a Small Brilliant shard somehow on one of my DE's.
You sir, are/were correct.
Impact, though it says +5pts damage on a 2H and shows +4 on a 2H when not in a BG, all abilities show as doing less damage, than when you have the Greater Impact +3/+2(out of PvP) weapon damage on a 2H.
Just another weird Bizz tooltip thing I suppose.

Sure looks like it. I did a little testing too and I came to the same conclusion.
  • Impact - 629 (1291 crit)
  • Greater Impact - 681 (1352 crit)
Again, the numbers don't mean much because I wasn't using a great weapon, but the trend is there. Impact's tooltip is definitely wrong.
