There are a lot of reasons to farm Riverpaw Staff (tired of killing murlocs, higher drop chance, desire to finally change location and kill things somewhere else, maybe transmog>?) and if you happen to have one of those, here is a good spot to do that.
Im not sure on how consistent it is or if maybe there is more to it(only farmed for 5 hours before epic proc, 9 drops total), but basically if you kill every spawned unit in area and dont touch spawns around you 2 gnolls will repeatedly instantly respawn.
Embrace my poor paint skills (If you dont recognise this place, the black star is a quest gnoll in some ruins):
Red Orange and Blue lines are pathing of mobs you have to kill. Blue star is optimal place to stay, so you dont run from blue to red. Black spawns are those to avoid.
Important to notice, you have to kill all of them and only after that i believe 2 will respawn immediately and you can farm it. Thats about it.
List of downsides (which makes this whole farm idea extremelly specific) :
- Its a quest zone, so levelers come and go and kill spawns, which sometimes lead to downtime in farm
- Its not a BiS staff, but a good upgrade from rare foam(+6int+2stam). Some may use this as a nice placeholder for the time being(once again, viable if you are extremely tired of farming murlocs)
- Mobs respawn in packs of 2, so once you cleared the place only 2 respawn immediately, so most of the time you gonna be standing still and killing 1-2 mobs repeatedly. I farmed on a monk, so for me its great to have single targets. As for druids with DOTs it can be pretty inconvenient .
List of upsides :
- You lose 4 vers but get 4x chance to drop. I have like 4-5 toons that i need staff on and i take that trade.
- No competition/bots/farmers (occasional levelers but its not that bad )
- Because of instant respawn you get to kill much more units in shorter period of time. (maybe you have just 30 minutes to spare, that spot would be 10 times better than running down that beach to kill that one oracle and 4 tidehunters)
- As a monk its much easier to farm than oracles.
- Additionally you farm world drops, so if you are f2p that’s a plus
If you happen to take a try at that riverpaw via this method - please leave a feedback. This is my first time writing anything like this and probably some important things could slip through.
A screenshot in action to give a perspective.
