I am currently working on obtaining this weapon with my level 85 Shaman, jwlo. I've successfully completed a few parts of the legendary chain, up to the quest, Through a Glass, Darkly.
Where the mobs in this quest are a little harder than average, they can be countered with some kiting. Once Tarecgosa & I become face to face with Thyrinar, that's when I experience problems.

This fight is testing my patience, and throughout the 10 years I have played this game, I've never, ever encountered anything as challenging as this.

Thyrinar hits between 14-17k damage every 2.5 seconds with Twilight blast, which translates to about 47-55% of my shamans health pool. This ability can be silenced, But the cooldown on wind shear cant keep up with it. To make matters worse, He summons mobs that deal moderate damage & will silence you: so you have to coordinate every spell cast you do and attempt to Juke these spell-locks. (Which actually can be done)
Once you deal a fair amount of damage to the boss, he will use an ability called Twisting twilight which is a nice break to regenerate mana (you will quickly go OOM trying to heal), and not have to worry about taking insane amounts of damage for about 15 seconds. All you have to do is kite the beam that follows you on the floor.
This ability doesn't cause much trouble to me, as I am a shaman and can dispel, but it is worth mentioning given that if it isn't dispelled, the boss will heal at a rate greater than your damage output can keep up with. Twilight restoration is a buff Thyrinar cast on himself which restores 3,000 health and 1,000 mana per second & reduces damage taken by 50%.

These 3 abilities (theoretically, only Twilight blast) are what makes this fight so difficult. Even being near full BIS, having heroism and overpowered consumables, this fight is extremely challenging in modern WoW. Back in Cataclysm players had 160k health, dealt WAY more DPS than 85s do now, and Thyrinar only hit slightly harder (Twilight blast was hitting for about 19ks in cataclysm compared to the 14-17ks now).

I've had over 30 attempts with this fight so far. I've tried Restoration, Elemental and enhancement, nothing budges. Maybe on a Disc priest or Warlock this could be a tad easier, but it for sure is a challenge on Shaman.
I've spoken with a game master in regards of this Quest, and he had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. He thought this was some sort of scaling issue and claimed that this LEGENDARY QUEST CHAIN is now level 58 content...Which makes absolutely no sense because not only do legendary quest not scale, but Cataclysm content is not available until like level 78 lol.

Has anyone successfully completed this quest in either WOD or Legion as a level 85? The damage done/damage taken ratio was nerfed extremely hard, and I'd appreciate any advice that could potentially help me with this.

Can you give a comprehensive list of buffs that you have been using for each attempt?

Food Buff: Pearl milk tea (30+ Mastery for 1 hour)
Elixir: Elixir of the rapids (85+ haste for 1 hour)
Potion: Volcanic potion (407+ intellect for 25 seconds)
Potion: Master healing potion (12,400 health on use)

These are the buffs I use the majority of the time. I believe there is a stronger version of Volcanic potion out there, but I haven't been able to get my hands on it.

If you are horde you could get the 60 int buff that lots of brackets use. That should help a fair amount. Im sure there are a lot more buffs you could try. A flask would likely help more than the haste elixir too.

What are your professions? There are some items that may be able to interrupt from engineering. Do you have an armory link?

I linked the character in the original post. I Just hit 85 9 days ago I believe & currently don't have any professions. The quest does take place in a phased instance of the Nexus and toys are not usable in there. So a lot of my interrupt options are off the table

I believe this is actually something that can be done in restoration. It would just take about an hour to actually kill this guy

Somehow I managed to get this done after a 30 minute battle with this fucking retarded dragon. Shits difficult as fuck for no reason

Thanks guys! It was BEYOND difficult and its pretty much safe to say, this staff is grandfathered to mages, warlocks and druids at 85 lol. Restoration shaman and Disc priest would be the only other viable classes for this quest. I popped 2 heroisms on this motherfucker and killed him with about 30% health left and 1% mana...Literally was just a second or two away from another wipe. More challenges are ahead sadly. Gonna get my legendary one way or another. Fangs of the father are next too ;)

edit: Thank god for having 147% mastery in Restoration. Without it I would have definitely been fucked by this dragon.

I did the quest on my what is now a 100 twink warlock early last year, ofc the only thing my lock was missing at the time was Dragonwrath, I beat it very easily, just had to play affy. Turns out that the whitemend /spellfire sets while stacking int are crazy OP lol. But regardless, glad to hear you got it done, early congrats on getting DW! Definitely let us know when you get it.

I'll be finished with this on my 85 shaman in say, 6 weeks? Fangs of the father only has about a month left as well. Really excited, just wish FOTF set bonus worked so I could be even more broken in BFA :(

I've talked to multiple GM's, and they are completely clueless. Many of them suggest that i group up with a tank and a healer to complete it....

yeah lol. One of the GMs I spoke with said that its just an issue with world scaling (its an instanced quest first of all) and that its now level 58 content. Game masters are fucking clueless

I am going to complete this quest, one way or another. Do any of you know of any OP buffs that you can get from questing or killing certain mobs? And what consumeables would be the best to bring along? (Playing an affli lock, link in my sig)

If you dig in wowhead, you can find Shadow resist gear with really good stats. I think Docturphill suggested this. Soon I will try this on my mage, but I am still working on gear.
