Am I.....missing something?

TBC TW's do offer the gems tho, so there's that.
While they're not your BiS, they're free & if you diligently hit up 25+ you can fill every slot as you gear up.

Depend son the gear slot, like choppy said cloaks are pretty solid until you farm up a socket one. If you are a more mastery inclined spec they are pretty good as well even though you drop the primary stat gems. The higher lvl you get the less and less appealing twing gear gets, for example my 39's and 49's dont give a heck about them.

This iLvl 96 gear seems to be very underwhelming, even the trinket I got is lackluster.
TW gear is good at level 10-11 but at 20 it's ilvl 96 vs 84 from dungeon drops and the dungeon drops can have 3 sockets.

What's crazy is that 6 months ago Blizzrad weirdly nerfed all the TW ilvls. 10-11 kinda made sense but it dropped level 20 TW gear from 96 to like 63? That made it utterly pointless. And they just seemingly reverted that change 3 weeks ago. I say "seemingly" because we don't know because Blizzard hasn't made any statements about it at all. For all we know, it's a bug.

But the good thing about TW gear is that it can be a good starting point. Just run TW dungeons until you have a near full set of 96 gear. It doesn't take long. And that's a great starting point ot replace pieces as you farm them from TBC dungeons.

Oh and never delete this gear as you replace it. You have no idea what Blizzard will do in future nerfs and gear/level squishes.
