So I was thinking, as I do sometimes, about the direction WoW is going and what the future might hold for the game. And I came up with some things that might sound absurd now but I think might actually come to pass and will have a substantial effect on F2P toons.

    1. Much like Broken Isles is now, Blizzard will eventually make old world content (IE Vanilla) scale with level in an effort to reinvigorate interest in that content and offer a speedy leveling alternative to random dungeon spam.

    2. Recognizing the power of micro transactions in their other games, Blizzard will open the in game store to trial accounts.

    3. Transmog looks will be no longer limited by level.

    4. and one that really only affects a few of us... fury warriors will eventually abandon titans grip.

    Y'all got any to add?

I predict Blizz will say or do anything it takes to maximize their profits whether players like it or not, like wrecking PvP with the RNG system, Arti wep/AP/AK grind, gearing in PvE, shit MMR/CR system, and looking the other way with serial scripters/cheats especially at high level. That includes various lies and spin put out by their PR team, paid shills, and idiot fanbois on Blizz forums, MMO-C, and others.

That's what they've done since Activision and there's no reason to think they'll change.

What I think could happen if Blizzards decides "duck all":

-they will release all main abilities besides talents for level 1s, and remove the lvl 10 requirement to change spec.

-they will merge all brackets together (this is a YUGE shot in the dark)

-they will remove apprentice riding or push it to lvl 1 and have journeyman riding available at 20.

-all gear drops and item drops may warforge (doubt it though)

Irrelevant changes that wont effect f2p:

-To fix the need to stat crunch every other expansion, they should implement scaling tech that will allow the stats to stay the same but to change effectiveness (%) based on the ilvl and lvl requirement. So if you're wearing Legion gear, the stats will decrease depending on how much higher you are from the lvl requirement. But an item with the same stats at the new level cap (let's say 120) would have 100% if it's base stats.

    For example:

I thought the same thing about having all abilities available at lvl 1 and having journeyman riding available at low level.

On further reflection, however, I think the abilities one is out of the question. They seem to really like (and we as players do too) the sense of reward and progression through leveling. Abilities (and ever increasingly powerful gear, to address your last point) are the carrot on the stick in MMOs.

That said, I think that removing apprentice riding may eventually be a thing. With the removal of a lot of obsolete "progressions" (like mail armor on warriors and leather on hunters) they seem to be signaling a willingness to streamline out a lot of the bloat and having two levels of ground based riding is a bloat.

Rng in everything. Your toon wants to use a speed pot? There's a 35% chance for it to put your toon to sleep and a 60% chance to poison you. Sounds bad, but you will eventually get the speed buff you need.

New feature: revamped talent tree. The old talent tree often had some choices that felt like you had to take because they were just too powerful when paired up with certain spells. This made the talent tree seem stale and feel underwhelming to players. We've implemented a new talent system where players can't see which talent they're going to get, instead you click an icon located to the left of each individual tier of talents and the game will randomly select a talent. This creates a feeling of excitement when you get that really cool talent that maybe you saw your friend using.

We've also added a new currency to unlock talents called talent points. Talent points are obtainable by completing certain challenges such as defeating five end of dungeon bosses and are also contained in treasure chests that spawn in random locations in every zone.

I'm just hyped for the (or so I heard) possible announcement of vanilla realms (Oldschool runescape alike) at blizzcon. I know it probably won't happen but if it would and it would have a trial edition as well... damn. Only thing that would bother me is lack of draenei :(

I enjoy the nostalgia of Vanilla and I'd totally play to be on a raiding guild and see OG Naxx (I never got the chance) but lets be real honest; pvp balance was complete garbage.

There is nothing "nostalgic" about Vanilla WoW. It was terrible compared to modern WoW. Vanilla servers were literally constantly crashing. Lag was unbearable in raids. Very very few people belonged to guilds. Even fewer actually raided 40 mans.

Read my lips, "There can never ever be another Vanilla WoW. " The only way one can truly experience Vanilla WoW as it was experienced like it was is if they had a time machine and they had their WoW memories wiped from them. Those of us that played WoW Vanilla had never played WoW before. There has never been anything like it on it's scale. That time has past.
If Blizzard does decide to have a Vanilla server it won't be the same. It just can't be the same. It will be using today's technology, with their decades of gaming MMO experience. They had none of that back then. Unless they use a circa 2004 server and circa 2005 internet connection speed. The PEAK of which was 8Mbps. We were still using dual core processors then. So as you all can very well see unless you want to take a backwards step in history, you can't take a backwards step in history.
Need I also remind you that we did it without addons as well.

Some of the people that are playing WoW now were in diapers, or were mere sparkles in the father's eye when Vanilla came out.

That's your opinion. His stated he enjoyed the nostalgia... Stop reminding people about how old you are and how young they are, it's pathetic.

What does playing Vanilla WoW have to do with someone's age?
I did not remind people about how old I am. I ask you to find that quote where I stated that.
What is "pathetic" (your words, not mine) however, is that someone would get so worked up over something so trivial as a video game, or any small thing for that matter. Yet we observe each and every day. It is in this observation that we can a certain that some are not mature enough to control their emotions.
What a great subject for a psychological study in human nature. Wouldn't you say so?

We don't want Vanilla servers for the lags, we want them for Classic WoW I thought that's obvious.

Allyb is right, and another reason "going back to Vanilla" wouldn't be the same is - Vanilla was before the bean-counters ran the game. Blizzard North existed, who were game geeks wanting to make great games for other game geeks. It wasn't only about the bottom line until the Blizz North people left and Activision took over around the time of Cataclysm.

Now whatever Blizz makes is just a "product", no different than if it were shoes or appliances - something to be used to exploit potential buyers for as much money as possible, and pleasing stockholders at every 3-month quarterly report. That's why we have things like no flying, smaller zones/continents (but harder to navigate to take you longer), RNG in PvP, the Shop and token system, intentional imbalance of specs/classes, racials changing FotM every xpac, the mind-numbing grind that is Legion...the list can go on and on.

WoW being so 'corporatized' now is the reason many dream of going back to Vanilla, or even BC or LK, though they may not realize it.

I get both the blizzard is money now argument and WoW was revolutionary argument, but for me, who joined in Cata, I just want to experience making a F2P in vanilla reality

Edit: how would be Vanilla F2Ps different to nowadays F2P? Except no mounts

    I had graduated college, so...

But I didnt hit 60 until the first week of BC (that expac was my shit) so I didnt get to experience end game Vanilla. Which I'd like to. I'd like to see original Naxx. I'd like to actually have to attune for Molten Core and do the AQ gate opening quests. Stuff I've only heard about. I get the desire to go back and see that, if only to see just how far things have come.

I have no delusions that it would be as fun as WoW is now and (as much as @Walrusbreath likes to complain :p) it is pretty fun. At least down here at 20.
