A challenge in these Dark Times: Ironman20

Moon9HosT

Veteran
Greetings!

I'm currently in the middle of an Ironman challenge.

This challenge has very specific rules which can be read here:
https://wowchallenges.com/challangeinfo/iron-man/

While levelling up, been thinking that it would be cool that F2P and unsubbed Vets could do something similar to this.
It would pose a new challenge for those 20s who are tired of long or inexistent BG queues, PVP imbalance and/or repetitive Dungeon spamming.

The Rules can be adjusted to your likings, and if someone more dedicated or knowledgeable than me wants to take the thread, please go for it as I probably won't have the time for it.

For starters, here's the overall RULES idea:

1 - Never Die
2 - Never group
3 - No Warbank
4 - No Auction House
5 - No mail
6 - No professions
7 - No BGs
8 – No guild
9 - No trading
10 - No enchantments or gear enhancements
10 - Although Cooking is not allowed, buffs from food reward quests are
11 - Only solo Dungeons
12 - Only equip grey/white gear/weapons (no BOA's, no greens, no blues, no epics)
13 - All account Mounts (flyable included) and Toys are allowed
14 - Transmogs are allowed

The ultimate goal would be to get the most achievement points following these rules.

I'm sure I'm missing something, so, again, feel free to fill the gaps with tips and sugestions.

If someone likes the idea and has the time and knowledge to make a leader board, that would be Chad.

Cheers

This is great, a few of us did something similar last year and it was a lot of fun
https://xpoff.com/threads/my-hardcore-f2p-account-journey.99130/

The only gray gear rule will make it a lot harder tho

I recommend fresh accounts btw if the goal is achievement points, otherwise now with warband achievements it's gonna be hard to track
Takes 5min to make a new bnet

Ah missed your thread back then, you Legend.

Yeah, it's pretty similar, only major difference is the white/grey gear, which I think will make soloing dungeons impossible... Or will it? ;)

Think that makes this Thread obsolete, as your challenge is very well organized.

It's a pity that you are no longer taking names.

And btw, do you think the white gear rule ruin the challenge or would be a good implementation?

Not at all, different rules, keep this up
I expect others to join you to (but maybe after they are done with the 11.0.5 stuff since that is coming out in a day.

I think farming gear was part of the fun, but I think it depends on who you ask
Once geared it was kinda hard to die tho, so I liked doing stupid stuff, like killing Nok-Karosh in Frostfire

LoL.

Agreed on the farming gear part, it should be fun.
On the other hand, if you become an almost unkillable machine, you probably take risks that you wouldn't if you felt weaker.

Been playing a bit of classic, and while leveling a warrior, I never felt like the nowadays Retail super-heros.
Target choices and pulls are much more dangerous, so risks are taken much more carefully.

Thought this would be a way of feeling a bit more overwelmed by the World... of Warcraft.

Then again, just ideas.

Thanks for the input m8.

Love the idea
I'd just like to mention having professions is great for the crafted gear. It's insanely weak but oh boy is it fun to have some use for this gear.
That said I do see why you don't want profs but I'm just sayin'

Yeah, I was just trying to stay on par with the Ironman challenge concept, but I see your point.

I think I'll try it out just for funsies, reckon won't be soloing any dungeon bosses or anything, and after checking Conzil's thread and realizing there are a lot of stupid things you can die to, just to see how far I can go without messing up.

I think soloing dungeon will be mostly impossible with white/grey gear only. But as a group of full white/grey gear, I can think it can be possible on some dungeons :thinkW: (tho if we die it's over from the Ironman Challenge).
I did a spreadsheet about grey/white gear last expansion (I didn't update it in TWW, I'll do it eventually and post it somewhere if people wants to).

Nice work and a very useful Table.
And the idea to make dungeons more challenging for group content is indeed cool.

Wouldn't it be great if there were an HC server for retail?!
Yep, but don’t' think that’s ever going to come.
Guess we will have to rely on personal ideas and restrictions to make things fresh and challenging.

By the way, this is my level 20 full grey on my linked-f2p account.
I have profession and I died several times, but the challenge around being full grey is very cool!
I managed to do some cool stuff, like grinding Stormpike Guard rep.
I only did Old Hillsbrad as dungeon (via LFG)
I got professions and rings via other toons from my main account (to help me, tho with flying now I could farm profession alone if I had to start over, and I could get ring after a lot of work in SL content :coronaS:).
On my bank I have 12-18 bags, but on me I have 4 Penny Pouch (1 slot) for challenging purpose XD.
Being 100% full Ironman would be probably suicidal if we want to grind achievements (as we block ourself with professions and dungeons). (while I think about it, I could probably just start a new account and only play grey/white characters to grind AP)
The idea is not bad!

If you choose to display only personal achievs in your ingame social tab, Armory will show only the achievs you have on that specific char, right? ;)

LoL @ Penny Pouches!

The thing about the full Ironman at 20 is the choices you have to make about the achievs you're going for, and how far are you gonna risk it.
It will be a learning experience, for sure.

/facepalm
I just died on a Prot Warrior to a pack in Elwynn Forest, so I'm going to choose a more 'safe' class/spec for my next round.

I know, I think I have around 2k with it, sadly with Warbrand I won't get much as I could have...
