19 Healing in Classic

Hi Guys,

So I am excited about classic and most of all excited about twinking in classic!

My question in short is "How viable is a 19 resto druid?"

Now let me build on that a little! - I got all my info from calssicdb website so if that is wrong this is going to be a massive amount of drivel and I am sorry.

Just doing the maths with gear and looking into the 3 options I will have as horde it would appear that out of the 3:
Shaman - Healing Wave (rank 4) 268 - 317 - 3 second base cast
Priest - Heal (rank 1) 295 - 342 - 3 second base cast
Druid Healingtouch (rank 3) 195 - 244 - 2.5 second base cast

Druids have the weakest direct heal by rather a lot I would have thought, Healingtouch has a lower base cast time and will therefore benefit less from bonus healing (right?) I can cast more of them of course because they will cast quicker (depending on talents)

At this point I am going to discount shaman because I don't want to play a healer that has literally one healing spell because I think that will be boring even though they seem to have the best utility of the 3.
So that leaves the options of Priest and Druid, I think most people would say well Priest is the tier 1 healer and Druid the tier 2 choice and should run flags. Is that just elitism or is that set in stone? Priest does seem the obvious choice but then who wants to be obvious?

In my mind a druid will be a lot harder to kill with bear form and leather armour and more HP due to the armour available e.g. Blackened Defias Armour. Druid can do some ok melee damage in bear form when needed and has roots and some stuns as utility. Druids also have superior HoTs which I think make a big difference when trying to heal more than one person at a time

Priests seem though like they have the better DPS with the use of that OP wand however they lack the utility having only psychic scream as crowed control and dispel (which is a very powerful spell).

Considering twinking is going to be slow difficult and VERY expensive in classic I want to make the right choice. This is just a dump of my thoughts to provoke discussion around the question at the top "How viable is a 19 resto druid?"

Thanks

Max rank spells for your level arent always the most efficient, the higher rank the more mana used. Right now you cant get a definitive answer considering the only information youre likely to get is something from a private server that probably wasnt scripted properly. The demo will be your best bet considering theyre locking us at 19, even at that tho the full game of classic is still 6-9 months out

There was no tier 2 healer really. It was priest healer or you’re playing to the strengths of being a hybrid as one of the other three healing classes. If you want to just heal, go priest. If you do that as a druid, you're not using the class to its full potential. But if you want to be okay at multiple roles, then the other 3 classes were fine at 19 as well when played right.

That is a fair reply. How would you play a druid differently to a priest out of interest? As you can tell I am keen to make a resto druid work but if it really is terrible I will rethink my options.

I never played druid at 19, but I feel like that was one of the tougher classes to be good on. I mean sure you might be a step up from paladin/shaman as healers, but it's still not great. You do have a little utility that priests didn't have though. Bash and Faerie fire being the first two that come to mind. Faerie fire is like the ultimate rogue trolling ability... 40 seconds of being unable to stealth lol. Oh and roots... but that was still kind of meh. I can't remember if it was all of vanilla where roots own damage would break itself, or if that had been changed at some point during vanilla's lifetime to not be so bad. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can chime in.

priests are OP af but it doesnt mean that 19 druids(or druids in any bracket) cant bring a twink to full hp in 1-3 rejuv casts in classic either

as always ...classic healing is no different than the braindead 1-2 button heal spam of any other xpac as a healer

you dont have travel form and that mongoloid rejuv doesnt "instantly" start healing the second you use it and thats about it really

You seem unreasonable angry all the time, deep breaths pal. Anyways, what's the most op dps class for 19s in vanilla?
also...
I have an inkling you play 39s, what's op over there?

High stam flag carrier.

Depending how vanilla it actually is...this is what I can remember for some gear pieces...

Green tinted goggles -> Fishing Hat
WSG Neck
Talbar Mantle
Blackened Defias Armor? Bloody Apron? (I don't think toughened leather armor got buffed until BC?)
Wrangler's Wristbands?
Grizzled Boots/Nat Pagle boots
Blood ring?
Seal of sylvannas
AGMx2
Furbolg Medicine Pouch

many are thinking of 19 res druids from the BC+ era, into WOTLK era when a stam stacked druid with few +int enchants could bottomless shift, spam alot of rejuvs playing the ROFL you can't kill me. not the case in van wow, if players are able to do this on private servers, they aren't truly based on ANY van wow patch. BC is what started the cycle for the near unkillable and over efficient heals for res druids

due to gold and player progession, twinking at first on a new classic server will be basic enchant wise. like +3 wpn dmg, fiery, +9 int to wpn, +3/5/7 enchants, etc. high level enchants like 22 int to wpn, ability to do libram head and leg enchants, +15 agi to wpn or gloves, ZG shoulder enchants and more will take a several months. gold will be a factor on a clean slate start. priests, even going into BC took about 3000g range for enchants, and certain BOEs.

those who played van wow, the first twink brackets were 11-20, 21-30, etc, patch made WSG and AB x0-x9, while AV was kept at 51-60. this caused alot of 20's to go to 29 making it a monster bracket. twinks for the first bracket had to be rerolled.
curious what blizz does on classic wow redo.

19's
priest and Hpal, at 19 were best healers, Hpal had talents so pushback was near none, making their heals near impossible to stop. Hpal was very powerful, but just as expensive to do as a priest.

hunters were most OP, followed by rogues but at the time you saw more rogues first, and hunters coming in more very late in van wow. hunters became more rolled BC and beyond. for rogues even into BC combat was predom spec, many times you did not bother stealthing as much as now due to speed penalty.

shaman EBT is what made the class, must have on team

39's Aff lock, ele sham was rather insane, but also a costly build. hunters, ret pals (yes), rogues.

Resto Druid can be very viable at 19, https://legacyplayers.com/Armory/?charid=1095010 is a example of one our members Resto Druid. See he runs lot of healing gear with the Int +8 to Helm/Leg to make up for some Int He would lose from going with healing gear over standard Stam/Int eagle gear.

Resto Druid makes a good support on O or D, with Roots and ability to sleep hunter's pets or even opposing enemy EFC if it's Druid in Bear form with Hibernate. You got lotta ways too keep EFC Support separated from each other with Roots/Hibernate/Bear Form Stun.

One main problem you might find is that you feel squishy, that's where good positioning and having good team both come in. Resto Druid for PUGs/Solo Q might not be funnest and won't be the best to Hard Carry games, but in schedule games pugs/prems Resto Druid can play a nice role in some comps.
