Paladins are very slow. Your best bet would be 2h+haste or shield+vers. What do you plan on using him for?

I believe you can only get the items from aggressive mobs. You will most likely need to hire a 100 to pull everything, allow you to pickpocket each mob, kill everything, then repeat.

You can unlock the reputation by going to Broken Horn Village, and you can get to the quartermaster by going to a friends garrison. I will test later tonight to make sure it is possible to gain the rep, but so far I have found no issues besides the hassle.
