So I've got a documentary recorded right now about an industry in China based on hunting sharks specifically for their fins, these "salesmen" often will just cut off the fins and toss the sharks back into the ocean to die what I can only assume is a horrible death. I won't get too in-depth with this thread but there is one large "company" in particular, only "one of the largest in the world" too, that had over 22 thousand shark fins in their possession... which means there's potentially seller's with even more just waiting to be sold for a Chinese delicacy of soup. They've got this idea that shark fins cure cancer so they go around brutally mutilating these great predators just to make a very expensive fin soup.
Here's an image from the documentary with one person standing in a sea of shark fins and here's the link to the site: Racing Extinction
What do you guys think about this? I find it disturbing personally and really don't think it's a necessary evil for people to be committing just to fatten their pockets off the naivety of Chinese beliefs.

Hastily made assumptions about this film before watching the whole thing, it's about much much more than just shark fin soup and really looks at the big picture of our effect on the environment. I strongly recommend anyone and everyone regardless of beliefs / culture to watch this, it's very eye opening and has a lot of well done filmography / statistics / science in it that will hopefully at least give you some perspective on the growing concern of Humans vs. Mother nature.
This documentary is playing again on the Discovery Channel this Sunday, at least for me in Canada, so if anyone wants to broaden their horizons you'll know when and where to find it. Stay classy TwinkInfo
