19 Quick Start Gearing Guide [WoD]

Thanks everyone - glad you guys like it :D

Nice list although we appear to be missing a fire mage set ;) but seriously nice work lol looks awesome

Totally willing to add a fire mage set. Throw me some armories or examples and tell me whether crit/haste is preferred and what about the spec might affect the gear. Same concept applies to any of the missing specs.

Nice work! I might mention the new BoA rings, but it is a "quick start" guide, and they seem to take forever to get.

I've gone back and forth about the BoA rings. For now, I'm holding off until at least I get one of the rings. Since I've had 3 level 3 garrison going (and just got a 4th) and haven't seen it yet, it may be in the too rare category for now.

you really only need 25% crit on WW and since you can easily get that else-where its just free haste... HB will disagree with me on this and thinks you should run crit everywhere so just put whichever shoulders you want

I'll put both shoulders up. It sounds like the difference is pretty minor.

How would I gear a twink on a new server because my main server has no twinks at all. And i wont br able to buy enchants

Btw whats the best server for twinking on alliance?

Bleedinghollow is the US twink server (for both horde and alliance).

For funding yourself, theres two ways to go about it. The first is to look at the GG 19 thread and apply for funding. Take the time to make a solid application and you'll likely get a twink funded for you!

The other way is the old fashion way. Create a "main" on that server (i recommend a hunter) and earn gold. Farm things like blackened defias gear and gloves of the fang to sell on the AH. Sell all the drops you get as you level in dungeons until you can afford the right gear. You can buy pets on your main server and sell them on your new server. Blingtrons are also nice. I was able to fund the basic gear for a twink boomkin with a level 33 hunter.

Thread has been updated! We've combined Tollo's Class Tier List and Pattern's Item Scaling Chart all into this guide to save space.

When I get time, I'll be hopefully adding the class tier ratings to the individual gear guides. I'll also be adding a (H) or (A) tag to relevant items on the item scaling chart. If I get really adventurous, I may try to add weapon scaling from Imfasttoo's Weapon Scaling Chart and my own google spreadsheet of notes on weapon scaling.

I'm also of the opinion that assassination should be a bit higher than subtlety, and that WW monk might tier 2 with their recent buffs. Thoughts?

If anyone has updates/fixes, please let me know! I'd love if someone can provide me the scaling of Spark Metal Bracers, since they seem to be a very common (BiS) item that isn't on the chart.

Hey,

i'm new to this site but have a question about gearing.

So far i've created my own Worgen Arms Warrior Twink and i have been collecting the gear from the quick start list. However, what i'd like to know is whether this is specifically only a starter guide and if there is actually a definitive list of better gear/enchants that i could collect for my Twink?

I'm planning on making a few other Twinks (Hunter, Druid, Rogue) so would prefer to try get the best gear possible rather than spend my time getting things i'd only look to replace.

Cheers

EDIT : Actually having now reread the item list, i am wondering if it is dated at all as from my understanding, the Heirloom gear that you can attain for each slot seem to be better than what is listed there? Is there any reason the Heirloom gear isn't liked for armor?

The heirloom gear is listed in the guides, however the links are all the same color. Click through the links to see more information on wowhead. All the information should be up to date, so if you see something that doesn't look right - let me know. Combat rogue is really the only spec that doesn't use heirlooms when offered.

This guide is meant to be a resource for new twinks being made. While it is a "starter" guide - it includes the BiS gear that is (reasonably) obtainable for twinks being created today. There is often better gear that is grandfathered and impossible to get (quest items like Inferno Robe), but theres also gear that is grandfathered (no longer drops) but BoE (like Woodworking Gloves). Since these items are either impossible to obtain or cost hundreds of thousands of gold (and the price will increase as supply dwindles) - they aren't on this guide. I've also not included the BoA shipyard rings - but theres a note about that in the original post.

So unless you have the cash to throw around for the rare BoE grandfathered items, then this guide should cover the best options available. If you want to see some possible grandfathered twinks and check their gear out, then take a look at the armory thread. For arms warrior, everything listed is a BiS option unless you have grandfathered gear. Here is what I would go with as an alliance arms warrior. You can choose between a more stam heavy set (fishing hat, stam enchants to shoulders/legs) or a more str heavy set (heirloom helm, str enchants). You probably want to have both sets of enchants so you can switch it up.

Head: [Lucky Fishing Hat], [Polished Helm of Valor]
Neck: [Eternal Emberfury Talisman]
Shoulders: [Polished Spaulders of Valor]
Back: [Worn Stoneskin Gargoyle Cape]
Chest: [Polished Breastplate of Valor]

Legs: [Polished Legplates of Valor]
Boots: [Gorewalker Treads], [Silver-Linked Footguards] (silver linked are for flag running)
Rings: [Bravo Company Signet] (A), [Band of Argas] (x2 T), [Silverlaine's Family Seal] (Band of Argas and silverlaine's family seal scale to the same thing - I'd use one of those and the bravo company signet)
Trinkets: [Inherited Insignia], [Inherited Mark of Tyranny], [Arena Grand Master], [Defending/Returning Champion] (I'd use the insignia and inherited mark of tyranny until you can get either AGM or def/ret champion)
Weapon: [Bloodied Arcanite Reaper]

ENCHANTS:

Shoulders: Greater Ox Horn Inscription, Greater Inscription of the Gladiator, Greater Tiger Fang

Thanks for the reply.

So when you say "grandfather item", you mean they are no longer attainable by quest/drop/etc other than if a person owned it prior to it being removed from the game? So this basically means, the list you have in this thread are the absolute best choices outside of these "grandfather items"?

Since i re-subbed, I haven't even bothered with my 3x level 100 characters. However i do have all of them maxed out with garrison resources so i could take the time to start building the shipyard. Is it worth doing it for the ring and other heirlooms?

I'd also like to try get the fishing ring but sadly i never bothered to level fishing with any of my characters and i don't have the gear to competently attempt winning it on a Sunday. Is it even worth going for, for that matter?

Here is a link to my warrior so far. Kunchion @ Outland - Community - World of Warcraft

To note, he is only Protection as i was grinding 5-mans. I'll be switching him to Arms very soon again. He also has

[Gorewalker Treads]
[Silverlaine's Family Seal]
[Earthbound Girdle of the Bear]
[Earthbound Girdle of Strength]

...to pick from in his bags that can replace...

[Earthbound Girdle of the Soldier]
[Savage Trodders]
[Bravo Company Signet]
[Band of Argas]

If i were flag carrying i'd pretty much only for for STM so would pick items that specifically increased that stat at a detriment to other stats. Personally i'm looking to make a damage dealing character for fun rather than a flag carrier so a mix of STM/STR/CRIT is what i'll go for opting for what gives me the most overall stats. Therefore, i need to work out what to gear myself with from the items above that i have option for. Any suggestions?

EDIT: Another thing i've noticed. Are the enchants up to date as i was browsing other chest enchants and found http://www.wowhead.com/item=74721/enchant-gloves-super-strength , which i believe would be more beneficial overall the use of Peerless Stats that is listed? ....Or is there a reason you'd go for Peerless over Super Strength?

Same goes for Hands in choosing http://www.wowhead.com/item=74721/enchant-gloves-super-strength over http://www.wowhead.com/item=34207/glove-reinforcements , or am i missing something here?

From looking over Wowhead, i've identifeid the following and bolded ones that haven't been mentioned before?

Neck: Gift of Versatility
Shoulders: Greater Ox Horn Inscription or Greater Inscription of the Gladiator or Greater Tiger Fang
Back: Gift of Versatility
Chest: Enchant Chest - Glorious Stats
Bracers: Major Stamina
Gloves: Enchant Gloves - Super Strength or Glove Reinforcements
Legs: Heavy Leg Reinforcements, Ironscale Leg Armor, Angerhide Leg Armor
Boots: Enchant Boots - Blurred Speed or Enchant Boots - Pandaren's Step or Enchant Boots - Earthen Vitality
Rings: Gift of Versatility
Weapon: Crusader

Anyone care to lend me some advice on these choices?

Also was there any reason the bolded enchants weren't mentioned before in the guide?

Cheers

Correct. You can still buy some grandfathered gear if it is BoE, so you might be able to have slightly better gear than this guide - but other than that, this guide has the BiS items.

The shipyard takes a while to set up and a lot of work to get up to speed. The rings are very nice though. It really depends on how much time you want to put into it and how hardcore of a twink you are. Only the 3 rings are available from the shipyard though.

I'd also like to try get the fishing ring but sadly i never bothered to level fishing with any of my characters and i don't have the gear to competently attempt winning it on a Sunday. Is it even worth going for, for that matter?

The fishing ring doesn't have a primary stat (str/agi/int), so its most useful for flag carrying sets and very tanky characters (FC druids, BM monks for example). It isn't a bad item to get, but its certainly not required. It only takes like 50 fishing to be competitive in the tournament. Google some guides if you're interested.

Gorewalker treads are the best boots. I would use them most of the time. Switch to savage trodders or silver-linked footguards for flag carrying.

The girdle of the soldier is the best bang for your buck as far as stats. Most of the time, desired stats are close enough to a 1:1 ratio that the most stats you can get is the best (soldier has 15, bear has 12, str has 10). This is the reason a lot of str/stam/crit gear is used - it often has the most stats. Save the other belts for times when you want to go full damage or something - but soldier is going to be it 90% of the time. Perhaps bear (or stam if you get that one) for flag carrying.

I would always have bravo company signet and band of argas (or silverlaine since it is the same as argas). You can switch to 5 stam rings if you have them for a slightly better FC set, but those will work quite well in nearly all situations.

Same goes for Hands in choosing Enchant Gloves - Super Strength - Item - World of Warcraft over Glove Reinforcements - Item - World of Warcraft , or am i missing something here?

See below.

Glorious stats has a tooltip error and only provides +1 of each stat at level 19. Use peerless.

Super strength is an option for a pure damage set, but the stat ratios are close enough to compare evenly. 9 stam is better than 5 str. The only thing I would put 5 str on is soulbound gloves (like the goblin victory quest reward) - which cannot get enchanted with glove reinforcements.

Important note - in order to put glove reinforcements on, you need to have an unbound pair of gloves. Send the gloves to a level 60+ to apply the glove reinforcements and then mail the gloves back. Only then should you equip the gloves. It looks like you've already equipped your thorbia's gauntlents, so you'll need a second (unbound) pair to enchant with glove reinforcements. Your soulbound pair can get super strength for a damage set.

Finally, the boot enchants that you've listed that consist of a stat and a speed increase do not scale with the speed increase from the cloak enchant. Only minor speed stacks with the cloak enchant.

So just an overall note about arms warriors. They live on the front line. They constantly dive into the enemy team to apply pressure and put rend on people. They like having a lot of health in order to dive in and out, so often prefer stam enchants where possible. Strength enchants are better for 1v1 and EFC killing scenarios, but stam is usually better in mid fights.

Hope that answered some questions. Let me know if you have more.

It can be ok for a pure damage set, but the -4 stam is HUGE.

The argas ring is 1 less int and (effectively) 9 more stamina.

Garrosh's pardon (horde) is 2 less int and 9 more stamina.

Lavishly Jeweled ring is 2 less int, 4 more stam, and gives crit to boot.

If you KNOW you're going to not be hit at all, then black widow band can be decent. But I would almost never use it.

this is great work thank you so much for this. Just getting into twinking again and this just makes me want to make a toon of every class and spec lol.

In WSG I feel ret pallies should fall equal to or slightly higher than Fury warriors. A ret paladin can still be a little decent outside of crusader proc, whereas Fury warriors are too proc reliant. I went up against a couple a few days ago and managed to beat them because they couldn't get a proc.

Great guide, tnx!
PS: Please fix links to specs in 1st post - broken since revamp of site.
