Is any Mage spec even remotely viable at level 29?

Just curious. I try to stay away from the FoTM, as there are already absurd amounts of the usual suspects. Has anyone had any success with Mage at 29? If so, which spec? Looking to try something new.
 
Of course they're viable. Even if it's purely for the CC.

You'll deal damage too - but I would think mages are more for utility at this point, unless you run some bursty arcane build.
 
From how I see it every 29 mage spec is viable compared to a 20 but fire would be the most fun.... Run and spam scorch to get instant pyros then spread it with inferno blast
 
they can polymorph the Sh*t out of healers. I really hate that. I feel as if I am the only one that ever dispels.

frost is VERY viable when played right. Frostbolt got buffed 30% this last patch. You've also got CC, and great escape mechanics. Yeah, they're beyond doable.

the community changed very much from the day of that screenshot (6+ months ago?) , back then (start of WoD if i recall right) the 20-29 bracket was mostly f2p, vets weren't a thing yet and there were not as many 29s as today; i wouldn't expect to get those kind of results nowadays (on EU at least)

anyway, kudos to all those that try to stay away from the usual suspects

on topic: from a f2p perspective, 29mages offer as usual great cc (frost on top), very good peels for healers/fc and viable fc if you want the challenge
 
Arcane mage for damage, frost mage for CC. Overall, I'd say Arcane is the better spec. It's got more damage and polymorph is all you really need to fuck over the healers. Both specs are good, but a friend of mine tried both and pulled more damage as arcane. That being said, frost can pull the damages as well with Ice Lance and frost bolt. Try both, see what works best for you. They are both definitely viable. Fire sucks.
 
I'm also lvl'ing/gearing a mage ... still not sure to go frost or arcane, but are both specs going with haste enchants/gear or versa/int ? or something else ? (for bg's)
cause on my spriest, i tried both, haste is very smooth and dmg is sometimes very good, sometimes bad , while with versa/int, my spellpower is around 272 (without food/wizard oil) , wich is great dmg aswell. depends on bg.
 
yes ice mage is awesome for teams. you may not be topping dps but the cc and control of the field is amazing. and really good to peel people off your fc
 
What people needs to understand is there is a difference between Viable and OP and yes I would go as far to say every mage spec is viable.
 
frost mage is beyond delicios for both WSG and arena, GREAT for clashes with pet freeze to get rogues out, sheep and CS, with versatility sack your shatter does around 2k, haste is probably best overall though.
