Starter (F2P) Has New Sub-Forum

Revlo

A Sentient Pyramid
Just in case some of you missed it, as I did at first, F2P has it's own sub-forum at F2Ps

More explanation about it here, specifically from post #267

Come on over and bring stuff.

No, i actually like what he pointed out. Props to him and you for opening this thread.

General 20-29 bracket forum
- Sub forum/guide trial section
- Sub forum/guide vet section
- Sub forum/guide 29 section

Because it is the 20-29 bracket. Giving groups within a bracket a seperate place seems like the best and most logical idea. Splitting more and giving more main forums while it is sub play style is just giving more hostility and it is making all kind of groups. It is unhealthy for the bracket as a whole which I said before in the last discussion. Now you have this problem because you didn't take the best solution for all groups of players.

This is Twinkinfo so give the info in the best way you can per bracket and per sort of twink not wich group is the largest and giving it a main forum, change its name etc etc geesh this is only happening in the 20-29 bracket. Please.

I feel like this is the best way to shape it up.

Move everything that was made during f2p age to new f2p section. cba seeing beachbums using our things.

The only threads that belong in the F2P only sub-forum are the threads that have relevance only to F2Ps. As Veteran accounts are also Starter Accounts in Battle.net, and as they have the exact same level, profession, gold, chat, and mail restrictions as "pure" Starters, the bulk of the content in this forum applies to both account types.

In addition, the content itself was mainly written by people who now play Veteran accounts, as that is the direction the community is now going. Nobody's posts are going to be moved unless the OP requests it, and unless it fits the standard explained above.

guess all f2p guides and rate twink should be moved since we dont share same gears, enchants.

dont forget that wut really matters in game, its not the gold, chat etc...

in gear veterans are exactly like lvl20 p2ps.

You could say the same for restricted level 20's as well. In game, starters are the same as veterans and subs that play with starter restricted gear.

Sure they do. Save for a few pieces of gear, the guides are for level 20's. They are not exclusively for starter accounts. They work perfectly fine for a non-"pure" starter account.

Actually when making guides it is easier to convert a veteran guide to 29 then it is to make it for f2ps. Going from vet to f2p u change roughly the same amount of peices of gear as u do going 29, the chant section would be vastly different compared to being exactly the same if it was a 29. Vet playstyles line up more with 29s because of their chants which dictate how a class can play, as f2p the playstyle u use is different, generally more conservative and based around cc / position rather than dmg burst. 29s do have glyphs which is something that separates them from both vet and f2p, of course f2p also has to have prof guides where as vets and 29s can just buy anything

A professions guide that showed F2Ps how to best utilize their professions would definitely qualify for the F2P section.

idk if u just quoted that part of my post so u could agree with it, but the whole point of my post is that f2p guides and char rates deserve their own spot in the sub-forum. vet guides are much closer related to 29 or 20 p2p guides (as far as pvp goes) the other guides that defintly do have a gray area affecting vets after sub ends can stay in the 20 general section. When f2p got their separate subforum the first time it failed because no threads were moved and the community was still splitting from f2p and vet, now the lines are more drawn out and everyone knows what they want to do in general. The part that is missing is the community, if a sub-forum cant even have its own guides then it might aswell just be a tag in the general section. And u can continue to say that ppl's threads are theirs and some of them went vet now, or arnt around at all. I can guarantee that u didnt speak to many if any of these ppl u claim don't want their threads moved. I have talked to many guide / major f2p contributors who are now vet and i can say very confidently that what they wrote in the past is for f2ps and they would want it to benefit f2ps today if possible. The amount of info that was writting pre- veteran accounts that actually is fully compatible to vet accounts is so low. Thats why there was a huge surge of vet guides that came out once vet became popular, had the old f2p guides sufficed then nobody wouldve made the dozens of guides to help vets. Does that not make complete and utter sense in every aspect? People had to make vet guides because the f2p guides didnt assist them to the necessary level. Yeah im sure a f2p could look at a 19 guide and get a good amount of info to help them, but it isnt suffeicient and a f2p guide would help them much more.

Perhaps the better route would be to write new guides for F2P as it stands today. In the same way that Veterans were just different enough that they needed some specialized info, F2Ps have changed as well with the addition of more BoAs, etc. I think your statement demonstrates, if anything, that the old guides don't apply to -anyone- anymore. In fact, I have people spamming the staff's Reports forum trying to have social threads from 2012 moved into the F2P forum. We have to draw the line somewhere, some of you are abusing our generosity. I'm going to say for now that any thread that is older than 1 year is not going to be moved as that would be considered a necro anyway. I encourage anyone who made a guide before that time, who wants to have it in the F2P section, to create a new thread and copy over the content, and then update it to meet with the current realities of the game.

Editing to update: I've been working with Yde a little bit in PMs to figure out the best way to handle the transition, and as a result I'm modifying what I said above. If a guide is fully updated by its OP to current standards, and it demonstrably applies to only F2Ps, then it can be moved. However the OP still needs to be the one to report it in that case. But if anyone wants to write a new guide for the F2P section and utilize content from an old guide to do so, that's between the old OP and the new guide writer: we are not going to police any "plagiarism".

The point here is to have one place where F2Ps can have current, relevant information, that is strictly for F2Ps, which apply both to F2P as a playstyle and F2P as a community. I personally think you all are better off establishing that community for yourselves rather than trying to cling to a history that is really relevant to no one anymore. I think you're better off writing a fresh guide than trying to necro some guide from three years ago just so you can take content away from the other section. But that's up to you. As long as a thread fits the standards I've explained, I assure you it will be considered.

nope, they use head, neck, legs, trinkets, ring looms f2ps dont use, and gfd gear and gear only obtainable by AH

And unless they already have an account with all those heirlooms and gold to buy BoEs, then they will be starting out as vet exactly the same as F2Ps. Playing as pre-BoA BiS (with access to enchants, although they may not be able to afford the best yet), until they have spent the time on their main to collect better gear.

Incorrect
There is more to a guide than just gear. In fact, some guides do not even involve gear at all.
I have a revalation for you. Not all heirlooms are best in slot. What heirloom rings are available for a veteran that is unavailable for a Starter?

Starters act as if Veteran accounts are FULL subbed accounts. They are not. Not all have access to Garrisons. Not all have access to WoD. They have the same access as a starter when their small subbed access period ends. A veteran account has more in common with a starter account than it does with a subbed account.

Garrisons have a long long ramp up time. Months and months... Very very few subbed accounts have gotten the new heirloom rings. And those people that do have them are probably running 6-10 garrisons with 25 followers each at an ilvl of 675. With level three shipyards and a specialized fleet of ships. Or are playing WoW hours on end.

There should be an old one out there that indicated the best path to take for professions. It should still pretty much stand.
I leveled fishing and cooking yesterday with the new darkmoon fish and versatility recipes. I suppose they could use some updating.
There are TONs of DMF consumables now. Either by ticket or from fishing.
