Man I have to vent for a second

So I was running around org working on gear sets and some priest ran up to me saying "hey I'm a twink too, can I join your guild" and I told him to come duel me for a second.

We got out there and I told him to fake cast me and he just bubbles himself, starts dpsing and says "I don't know what you mean" after about 30 seconds of me trying to explain to him what fake casting is, he responded with "your boring me" and then ran back in to org.

He then whispered me saying "I don't need to fake anything. That is a dueling trick and won't ever help me win a game. I top KBs all the time and I get kicked all the time and it doesn't matter"

I told him "Fake casting is important because your flag carrier could be dying and you need to heal him. If you get kicked, you won't be able to heal him and he'll die."

He then sent a few whispers about how he doesn't need to fake cast and how he already wins all the time and then put me on ignore when I told him "if you don't want to learn from others, this guild is not for you. Our guild has been around since 2006 and it would be embarrassing if we let in a priest who refuses to learn what fake casting is."

This is the most confusing thing I've ever encountered in this game. I know about noobs and yada yada, but this guy takes it to a completely different level. Where does this come from? Is this the mentality of the 29s bracket? This is something I have not seen in 19s...

Is this just the mentality that newer players have? He told me he's been twinking since 2006... Which is clearly a lie because if that were the case, several hundred people over the years would have told him about fake casting. This would be a moment where back in Mayhem 4-5 of us would follow him around jumping around him in circles for an hour. Is this just what happens when someone rolls a crazy OP class? They roll something that plays itself and then refuses to learn any actual PvP combat techniques?

I am just so confused. Could I have dealt with things better? Maybe... But I honestly feel as though it would result in the same outcome regardless.

Dragonmaw has a lot of 29s and is paired with us on Akama. It's the server he's on... Do you think he's a 29 from dragonmaw? I haven't spent much time in 29s in the past few years but his attitude reminded me of 24s in cata which if I were to guess is what 29s in WOD is now.

Man I need to just sit down for a few hours and think about this.

Reminds me of the S-Key hunters from cata.

But yea, I've yet to figure how to fake cast properly, so that's why I never took the healing route, even with my old 19 shadow priest that i deleted long ago.
I'd rather be useful as something else than a sitting duck being interrupted so easily.

You did the right thing though. You tried to approach him in a respectful manner, despite his ignorance. (or her)

I hear you. I'm garbo at healing but man if I'm not playing my shammy 1) Flags don't get picked up 2) We get wiped constantly in mid because we don't have healers.

Toxicity and toxic attitudes are what infiltrate pvp in a variety of different games at all different levels.

Its a main reason I came to 19s, because I thought that there would be a competitive atmosphere with a community that had been together so long that it would have filtered out many of the people who carry that attitude with them.

It is easy to find someone willing to roll a twink, or play a war-game. It is much more difficult to find someone willing to learn something new. A will to learn and a determination are not only invaluable in a persons character in twinking, but it is also a sticking point in any real life activity or pursuit.

20-24 was a toxic bracket for so many reasons, many being the polarization of f2p/p2p, the overwhelming population with an incredibly unequal skill range, and the fact that the brackets live fast die hard mentality may have brought in many, but over time it didn't keep many. The drama was fun, the population was fun, the times were fast. But competition was scarce, and most of it stemmed from nice people (Somfas, Brain, Conq).

I firmly believe that 20-24 merging into 20-29 added some amazing spec imbalance and really dominant fotms, and furthered that toxic environment.

Entitlement is something that will never be squashed, and toxic attitudes, while somewhat disgusting, will always lurk around the edges.

The goal is to make sure it stays at the edges, because when it becomes normalized, and when the community accepts it, it is the beginning of the end.

So brush your shoulders off, stand tall, and keep the positive attitude going. Keep being a community leader, and preach to all, fostering those willing to listen, willing to learn.

Rogues don't need to stealth, wastes gcd.
But with all seriousness, we're going to see a lot of this coming with all the trade spam about the twink cup. Everyone and their brother is going to assume they're hot shit until they get schooled.

But mocha i guarantee he practiced /stopcasting after he googled what you said.

you mean IF he googled it, unless you know the guy.

This is how the game is now. People think they're good before they put in the time.

lol, yeah my realm had those kinds of 29's, the ones that level to 90 the next day because "my class gotz nerfed wah wah" type of player. Seen em too many times, but ik what ya mean.

they were too busy stomping on players 5 levels before them so no effort is needed in anything they do because they are going to reroll next FOTM class. I bet that guy is going to be level 90 in a month.

I really think the overall attitude of 19s has become more positive.

When I had to recruit people for LS FTW I always asked to duel them to get a feel for their skill level. Had to explain countless times what S-keying is, what strafing is, what fake casting is, etc. Some people are open to advice, others are not. If the guy is gonna have an attitude like that he's not worth your time anyway. You win some, you lose some.

I get how you feel. Imagine teaching that guy how to back-strafe... >.>

the 29 attitude is far worse than the average 19 thats for sure

You mean worse than the 19s that wanted to come to 29s and roll FOTM? The 19s that believe class-stacking BROKEN specs is "dressing for success"?

lol, you really ARE a funny guy

19s would never have been able to pull off a community-wide Aimed Shot ban, as the 29 community pulled off years ago, especially current 19s who would have rolled AS hunters and called it "dressing for success"

I'll grant that the 24s who came up to 29 have a poor attitude overall, but don't be laying that at the feet of the 29 community, which precedes the whole 20-24 fiasco

...

Mocha, I have to call BS on that rando's claim to have been "twinking since '06". as you stated, he would have heard about fake-casting literally hundreds of times if true
