Leveling A New Toon - Looking For Opinions

So these days I'm a very casual player all around. I play twinks from time to time for some fun BGs. At max level basically all I do is some casual PvP bgs and farm old raids for mounts. Believe it or not, I would much rather roll through old raids than try to gear up for new content. With me having several toons at max level, I don't want to work for a month on one toon and then have the others be so far behind in gear that they are unplayable. I was a pretty hardcore raider and pvper back in TBC, but then I only had 1 max level toon so it was easy.

Right now I have UD Mage, Belf Rogue, UD DK, Human Pally leveled up.

Looking to level up something a bit more fun for soloing / questing / running old raids. Something more ez mode / does well. I won't be gearing these toons up much at all... Basic PvP gear is all I'll want for the entire expansion lol.

Thinking either hunter or druid or perhaps both...

Now if I were to roll hunter, I think I'd want to go Night Elf > Blood Elf > Undead > Worgen so I might as well just roll nelf for the smeld. It would be more fun questing and soloing old raids with smeld.

Now for druid, I HATE Tauren and Troll so that rules out Horde T-T which means I'd then be going with Nelf over Worgen because let's be real... Worgen, Goblin, Pandaren are eww.

I've been primarily Horde since I started playing (first 3 twinks in 2006 were ally) and then in Cata I made a Human Pally but since then I haven't really played Ally.

What do you guys think?

Early on, it seemed that only kids played Ally and adults played Horde... but it appears as though it flopped somewhere around Cata. Would be cool to see more love for ally from the devs / metzan at blizzcon besides him always spamming /y with "GO HORDE!"

Thanks guys

This post is like looking into a mirror.

I'm basically the same. Long past my raiding days. Play a bit at Level 100, usually just BG's and a few arena's/RBG's to get my points each week.

I just started a Hunter (boosted) for this exact reason. Want something fun to level, decent enough in PvP and something that can solo raids efficiently. Hunter it is.

I'd say your on the right track. I went with Troll because I am pure Horde and they seemed like a decent option in terms of enjoying their look / somewhat useful racial.

Exactly... I used to be a very hardcore player who used to push for hard content (Illidan back in TBC and SWP) and I also used to work on arenas back then too. At 19 I used to play MULTIPLE battlegroups which not many people did, and I used to premade for a LOT of guilds. After pretty much WOTLK, I became completely turned off to the gear treadmill. Back in TBC, starting out, anyone can do kara with greens / blues and hopefully get a few epics. Some of those epics would last up to and even through TK / SSC. Heck, everyone was running around with imbued nether weave robe or robe of the crimson order because that gear was actually really, really good.

Now gear is irrelevant a few months after you obtain it... You're lucky to get a few pieces of gear a week. In my opinion, there has been WAY too much gear at endgame from WOTLK on and that gear becomes outdated far too quickly. For me, that just turns me off completely.

I would rather farm mounts that I only dreamed of getting and legendaries that I remember freaking out about when I'd see them on players. I missed out on Atiesh on my mage and it's my #1 regret in WoW. All of my mains have thunderfury and the ones that can equip glaives etc have them. The only raid mounts that I want to get at this point are invincible and somehow I still don't see an ashes... despite having run TK several, several hundred times from TBC on.

At least those mounts and the transmog that I come across while running for them will last forever and the satisfaction of crossing a mount off of your weekly grind checklist is incredibly satisfying. (Fiery Warhorse and Raven Lord on the same day... And 2 days later got Ony to drop... Was SO happy)

I ended up rolling with a BM hunter and I can say that I'm loving it. I've been able to solo dungeons with mobs much higher level than me pretty much since I made the toon... But after 1 day of playing, my hunter is at level 60 (thanks to queuing bonus dungeons) which makes me glad I didn't consider purchasing a boost. 60-90 is going to be the most annoying thing I'll have to do on this toon. but hopefully it won't be the worst thing.

As I've said, I'm content with just the baseline PvP gear and some crafted here and there because I won't be pushing any rating or any max level Pve content, and I feel as though a hunter will do well despite having baseline gear.

I may make a druid in the future as the vanity of shapeshifting seems like a lot of fun to me. I haven't played druid in YEARS so it would be great to see the changes. If it had a pet, I would have made a druid hands down. Sure druids have speed bonuses to help clear through raids faster, but my rogue with stacked speed + burst of speed is faster than riding mounted speed so I'm content with that. I'd rather have a pet for those fights that aren't just tank and spank.

Cheers

With druids you have added mobility with aquatic and travel forms/flight for quick movement around places, the instant flyer mount is a very useful feature for us druids;) furthermore you effectively have 4 very different classes rolled into one! You can chop and change your play style as you wish, as either a balance druid or feral or guardian etc etc... It really freshens it up as it means you don't need to level up another caster or another melee as they are just a respec away! Obviously this is biased to druids, and talking to a guildie he has suggested if you want some easy damage then a hunter is perfect, but for me druids bring the style factor and fun play style :) I play as a worgen, and the racial speed increase is a nice touch, but there character models can get a little tiring and there is limited transmog sets for the worgen race in leather, if that's a factor :)

Agreed. Had they not nerfed gathering professions I would have a druid already. As soon as WOD was going to launch I was going to build up a farmbot for gathering... Come to find out, there's no point in doing so any more!

I guess for me I'd like to have a druid just for the fun shapeshifting. Running around as a kitteh or birdie would be fun! Hate the laserchicken though ;D
