Warlords of Draenor Monk Guide

Atsuro

Legend
Hi there! With the release of the pre-patch 6.0.2 F2Ps now have access to monks!

Let's discover this new class together shall we?

Basics of the monk

Chi: Chi is a ressource similar to combo points for rogues. You can have a maximum of
4 Chi at a time. You generate Chi through certain abilities and spend it with others.

Main stat: Depending on your spec, you will need Agility (Brewmaster and Windwalker)
or Intellect (Mistweaver). So dont stack agility on a Mistweaver and vice-versa.

Way of the Monk: This passive ability changes your auto-attacks depending on your
weapon type. You deal 40% more damage with one-handed weapons and attack 40% faster
with two-handed weapons.

Stances: Brewmasters and Windwalkers only have one stance each. Mistweavers have 2
stances. They work similar to warrior stances.

Basic Spells (You get those with every specs.)

Jab - Your main Chi generator.
Tiger Palm - Cause your attacks to ignore 30% of ennemy's armor. Use it every 20
seconds. Note that it places a buff on yourself, not a debuff on the ennemy so you
dont have to reapply every time you switch targets.
Blackout Kick - Your main damaging ability. Use it as often as you can.
Surging Mist - Your only heal if you play Brewmaster or Windwalker.
Roll - Very good gap-closer/escape ability. You get two charges of it, each on a 20
sec cooldown. (Work the same as Charge for warriors when they spec Double Time)
Resuscitate - Basic resurrect ability.
Provoke - Unusable in PVP.
Detox - Remove poisons and disease.
Zen Pilgrimage - Teleports you to Peak of Serenity in Pandaria.

Brewmaster Spells

Stance of the Sturdy Ox - Increase armor by 50%, Stamina by 25% and Magic Resistance
by 10%. While in this stance you gain the Stagger passive. Stagger makes you recieve
only 80% of damage when hit. The remaining 20% will be divided over 10 sec.
Dizzying Haze - Throw a keg of brew. Every ennemies caught in the AoE will get their
movement speed reduced by 50% for 15 sec. Use it to slow ennemies at a distance.
Breath of Fire - Burn the targets in front of you for some fire damage. If the
targets are affected by Dizzying Haze they will suffer DoT burn over 8 sec.
Keg Smash - Smash a keg on the target, dealing damage to every ennemies around and
reducing their speed by 50% for 15 sec. Very good damage and snare effect. Plus it
generates more Chi than Jab. Use it when its off cooldown.

Mistweaver Spells

Stance of the Wise Serpent - This is your healing stance. Note that you can't DPS
while in this stance except for your auto-attacks. Only use this if you know you will
have good peels.
Soothing Mist - Channeled heal, only usable while in Serpent stance. Always keep
active on the person you're healing.
Surging Mist - Becomes an instant heal while you're channeling Soothing Mist. Spam it
to generate Chi.
Enveloping Mist - Uses 3 Chi. Heal the target over time for 6 sec and increases
Soothing Mist effect by 30%. Becomes instant cast when Soothing Mist is channeled.
Only usable while in Serpent stance.
Stance of The Spirited Crane - 50% of all damage you deal is converted into AoE
healing. You can DPS in this stance.

Windwalker Spells

Fists of Fury - Stuns all targets in front of you while dealing huge damage. Almost impossible to use on moving targets.
Flying Serpent Kick - Charge forward a long distance. If you use it again while
charging you will land, deal small AoE damage and slow ennemies by 70% for 4 sec.

Talents

Celerity - Decrease the cooldown on Roll by 5 sec and gives it 3 charges instead of 2.
Tiger's Lust - Increase movement speed by 70% for 6 sec, removes all roots and snares. You can cast it on an ally too.
Momentum - Roll now increases movement speed by 25% for 10 sec, can get you to 50% movement speed if you use both Rolls.

In my opinion they are all very good talents. Tiger's Lust is the most fun to use in my opinion, and can be used give a little boost to Flag Carriers/Healers to help them get where they should be. Momentum would be the best talent if you plan on FCing. Celerity is good if you like to use Roll a lot.

Well, before giving this whole guide I suggest you put "must have at least editions or a p2p linked to one account to make a monk". Gj on the guide so far.

This is not true. I can make a monk and I dont have a P2P and I never bought anything from Blizzard at all. Im still not sure why some people can't make monks right now but some says this has to do with the creation date of your account. This will be patched eventually.

I look forward to the rest of your guide, Atsuro, keep it up!

I added links and colors. Its far from finished but can a mod move this thread to the guide section?

I think a guide has to be complete and be approved as an official guide before being moved to that section? I believe that's how it works, I never finished an official guide.

I plan to do number crunching for mw spec tomorrow night on what bis stats race and gear is . I'll give you the results later so you can put them in your guide .

Can you make some breakdown of preferable ally/horde races for each role (tank, dps, heal)?

IDK if you want some suggestions, if not simply ignore it but:

1. Add some pictures! A good way to do it is to find every ability's icon (go to google graphics and search for example "wow jab icon" and get all 64x64 px ones)
2. Put all your text in one post. You don't have to separate it into so many replies.
3. Gear would be nice, what's BiS for what spec :)
4. Some race suggestions
5. Tips and trix!

Editing will make the guide beautiful, use these:

Code:
[size=X] [/size] <- increases font size
[color= #xxxx] [ /color] <- changes the color, [url=http://www.absitomen.com/index.php?topic=331.0] HERE [/url] you can find a rly useful table
[img] [/img] <- adds the picture, put the link between the img's
[url= LINKHERE] NAME [/ url] <- puts link into word. When someone clicks it it will link them to that place. Example: [url=http://www.absitomen.com/index.php?topic=331.0] HERE [/url]

You can look at the DK guide in my sig or any other guide in guide section, and GL with it! :)

Alright I'm done crunching the numbers for MW and BELF if better by far vs troll. during a period of spamming surging with soothing and enveloping up . the 15% haste only nets about 80 more heals per second is bis gear at lvl 29 .

during the period of non zerking belfs do 160 more heals per second.

belf>troll all day long

this assumes belt has blood thistle btw
