Nice spread Yde. Where are you located geographically again? What's the better beers in your area? Ever up for a trade?

Yde what beer is this on the photo? Never seen it before lol
That's a Czech beer, Štěpán Tmavý Ležák. Only had it once when a friend brought some from Prague, but drinking it again is on my list of things to do if I hopefully manage to visit Prague one day. :)

The second beer, Hövels, is brewed in Dortmund which is near where I live. It's the beer I had this weekend so I had to include a pretty picture. It tastes very nice, mellow but with a good strong hoppy note.

La Chouffe is one of the amazing Belgian beers from Mialo's lovely home country and the second Belgian I tasted, always a favourite. :)

I'm from North-Western Germany.:)

There are slightly fewer breweries than in Bavaria, but still more than enough. ^^ And it works out since I'm not particularly fond of most wheat beers. Or maybe I am not fond of them because I didn't grow up south of the Weißwurst border? Who knows. ^^

I'm not sure what beers from my region are available outside of it. Maybe one of those: Warsteiner, König Pilsener, Veltins, Stauder, Diebels, Fiege, Dortmunder Kronen, Hansa, DAB, Brinkhoffs, Oettinger (>_<), or the countless Düsseldorf Alt, beers from Münster like Pinkus, or Kölsch beers.

I've never tried to send beer with the postal service. Are there any rules on sending alcoholic beverages internationally?

Int'l Beer Swap - woot!

EDIT: Adding a fun book with beer as a central theme.

Not sure internationally but in the U.S. you can send beer domestically through FedEx or UPS. Not through the USPS though...it's considered a crime (but I heard they're looking at allowing it because of the USPS financial issues). I would suspect it'd be expensive if it was possible as shipping 1 510ml beer to Indiana (about 1000 miles away) cost $12. So it'd have to be something worth all the trouble (for me Westy's, Cantillons, etc. - for you you'd probably want good stuff you'd never get in Germany).

Drinking a Mephistopheles from Avery tonight. Wow...great stout. It's rated 100 (out of 100) for a reason. Anyone drinking anything good lately?

Had some ABT 12 last night from St. Bernardus...anyone else had this? Anyone traveling to CO for Christmas that would want to trade some beer in-person?

Also, what will be your Christmas beer this Christmas? Favorites at Christmas time?

Right now I'm drinking (not LITERALLY) Anniversario Rum. This rum is tasty enough to drink straight with one ice cube.

I'll check out Mephistopheles as I prefer stouts and porters.

Grats on 1k posts. Mephistopheles is very good but pretty boozy (it's like 15-16%). It's not the best stout I've had but very good. Best stout I've had is The Abyss (Deschutes The Abyss - 100 at RateBeer). Not sure if you'd get that in Bawwstin though...that and it's probably sold out as it's limited release once a year.

Nice. I have a great connection in the beer industry so I may be able to grab anything given time - my neighbor is a sales rep and has all kinds of samples and new beers for me - best kind of a neighbor ya?

I looked into shipping booze in the US. It's illegal if not done by a licensed seller. You can ship through some licensed sellers however.

And I've read most overseas shipments of booze are "confiscated" at either customs end. Must be a nice perk.

:(

Oh well, I guess we'll just have to tell each other about the great beers across the pond. ^_^

P.S.: Christmas is probably going to we wine time here, no beer. :)

That is a great neighbor to have! I'm jealous!

As far as shipping beer it's not illegal domestically. It is through the USPS but not through UPS or FedEx. I've shipped and received many packages of beer by UPS and FedEx (and even received 1 from USPS) without a single hitch. Just don't declare there's beer inside the package and there won't be any problems. It is against the UPS and FedEx policy but not illegal.

Some of my all time favorites, with reasonably wide distribution:

Rogue Dead Guy

Bridgeport IPA

Alaskan Amber

Black Butte Porter

Nothing too new or crazy here, but these beers — you just don't get tired of them.

Good standby's! Rogue, Alaskan, and Deschuttes are all great breweries (Deschuttes especially). Haven't had too much from Bridgeport (except Ebeneezer).

I've been thinking about what I'm drinking in celebration for Christmas. Right now I'm thinking either: Scaldis Noel, St. Bernardus Christmas, Goose Island Christmas Ale, or Mad Elf (from Troeg). Any other recommendations?
