A question of resistance

So I am currently working on resist sets. I know what I need for max resistance to each school, but I remember hearing something about resistance caps. I was wondering if anyone knew what they are at 19 so that maybe I could cap 2 schools at once, like a frost/nature resist for peeling a shaman and mage off of a kiting D. Or maybe I am over capped in my current resist sets so I could drop some resist for AP/crit/stam. Anyone know anything about this? This is for my warrior of course.

Get on skype to call me King of Ruins!

Well actually there is a resistance cap.

The cap is the lvl of the one attacking you times 5. However all targets below lvl 20 are treated as lvl 20.

So for our bracket it's 20*5=100 resiatance.

This will give you a 75% damage reduction on average which is the cap.

Just try this site out Spell Resistance Calculator

besides rings and the cloak enchants what other resist items could u get. I know some people got the legs enchanted, but thats pretty much it right.

there's 2 resistance shields, arctic buckler and green carapace (+4 nature resist).

It's important to note that there are two ways of resisting spells:

Binary (such as polymorph and fear): These spells deal no damage and can either hit or miss. Resistance here increases the chance for your opponent to miss you. Note that (spell) hit rating does not counter this.

Non-binary (such as frostbolt and corruption): These spells deal damage and resistance on your gear will cause the damage done to you to be reduced by either 0, 10, 20, ... or 100% depending on how much resistance you have. But if for instance the game says you have 34% resistance (which you can't see unless you make calculations) you will only have a chance to resist for 20, 30, 40 and 50%. (the closest 3 or 4 percentages)

DoTs are considered non-binary and the damage is calculated every new tick.

there are a couple items that have resistance other than those mentioned such as firebane cloak, the shadow resist staff and probably a couple other items. Dont forget the shield enchants, i dont know how many there are, but there is atleast 8 frost resist. wowhead is you friend here, go search it.

So if I understand this correctly, would that mean that 10 resistance = 7.5% chance to miss a fear? If so, is there any way to counter that at lvl 19? :(

Next question, 0 resistance means 0 chance for any resist right? There's nothing like the passive miss chance that everyone has for spell resist correct? I only ask this because it seems like that would make +5 resist to cloak a very desireable enchant given that every other cloak enchant is pretty lackluster (except maybe +stealth for rogues).
