f2p level 20 death knight

From what i can tell not many people play death knight at this bracket.. still enjoy playing it and wanted to give it a go and try to get geared up looking at either frost or unholy..

I haven't played in many years and its all a bit overwhelming.. where should i start, are they any other dk players who can help me out a bit! much appreciated (thundastorm#1672) in game feel free to add

Bad news, it really is a bit overwhelming. Twinking encompasses (almost) the entire game these days, with relevant and useful gear/enchants/consumables from every expac. So you gotta have at least a working knowledge of the whole game.

Good news, a lot of folks have put a lot of effort into trying to make it as approachable as possible. Theres a lot of useful information in that FAQ and guide compendium and you could do a lot worse than sitting down and setting aside a couple hours to read through it. The Armory thread and Cignus's excellent "How Do I Get That" video series are great places to start. If you want to dive super in depth, the Mastery run down by Bop has good info, both in the OP and the thread that follows. There are also a few threads in the 20s subforum regarding DKs specifically. You might have to go back a few pages but "how do I gear DK" is not an uncommon question.
 
biggest issue with playing any strength based F2P class is having to do mining and BC or WOTLK JC to get gems to make class viable.

PVP vendors only have decent gems for agi or int based classes

It's either https://www.wowhead.com/npc=39173/champion-rosslai#sells;50 or https://www.wowhead.com/npc=32296/stone-guard-mukar#sells in Wintergrasp that sell the gems for https://www.wowhead.com/item=137642/mark-of-honor . I might be missing the NPC that has the gem cache, but they're up there.

Additionally, while very time consuming, you can farm & prospect https://www.wowhead.com/item=36910/titanium-ore for epic gems of your own. Perhaps faster than swapping to alchemy to make daily transmutes.
