Just recently started a DK “fully” f2p with no future of subscribing. I’ve searched guides like the ilvl28 vendor greens that are now ilvl22. Saw a recent post about CATA world mobs behind Deathknell with no explanation of how to get on top of the mountain. My point is, what should I be farming, how can I get gems besides MoH w/ no strength and what available options do I have to be able to compete?
 
tbc dungeon blues for most spots, bfa rares and dungeon drops for the rest.

you need to make epic gems by transmuting them with northerend alchemy and then crafting them with northerend jewelcrafting, its a hmm, lenghty process.
 
Just a heads-up, 10.0 is expected to be launched prior to dec31st 2022. The talent revamp may** see a shift towards i28 or socket gear as BIS. Farming gear will take some time, especially for f2p access. By the time you get the pieces that you feel is good, things can change. I.e. steady talasite, legendary weapon and tank trinkets was BIS for DKs. I believe those items lasted until 9.1.5 patch.
 
For the f2p approach, you kinda want triple / double socket TBC pieces (helm, shoulders, chest, gloves, belt, legs & feet).
Get high mastery pieces with a socket to fill in the rest. Double pit fighter for trinkets and CWR for wep. Get haste mast rings from the mop vendor. (also try bfa / wod rares for rings / necks / cloaks that can proc a socket with high mast)

Run +3 gems in the helm, chest, and legs + run 2str/2stam in the rest and get crusader asap (actually not sure but might be that Fallen Crusader healing is better but str proc is not so for survivability you should at least check it out).

From there on it's up to you to decide how much effort you wanna put in the char (farming epic legion rings,...)
 
TBC gear and dungeon socket drops are what you will be primarily running.
gems wise use +3str or +2str / +2stam
weapon enchant really doesnt make a massive difference and you can use rune of the fallen crusader for the most part

You can apply these on BoA and send to your 20 as well. A few are decent

Psure I tested that one specifically and it worked, just sader was so broken its hard not to take. But now that it's somewhat fixed it might be worth it. This was all a few months back.

I am really sad now that I don't have the SoO heirlooms :/ Guess I'll need to run numbers to see if normal loom + sanguination outperforms sader + CWR but I kinda doubt it
