DK stat prio?

Coming from classic 19/39 bracket looking to get into 20's. Any Knowledgeable DK players have any input? I typically play frost but wouldn't be opposed to blood or unholy. What is the stat prio for frost/unholy/blood and why do you enjoy that spec?

For unholy I would say strength, mast, haste, vers. That being said though, and depending on what you do. It wouldn't hurt to have a more beefier (heavier Stamina) build. As dk can be quite squishy. Also verse could be swapped for crit depending on preference .

for blood dk shenanigans, i summon @icehawk
I have been summoned…… :ez:

There is little to none info about blood since its not played in pvp
Blood DK is viable in PvP, though it’s a wearing down spec rather than a raw power spec. It’s like Rocky Balboa - u take a beating but r still standing to dish out some hurt once the opposition has nothing left in the tank.

My preference for Blood is Haste + Mastery, though u could probably trade Mastery for Vers which has added heal and damage reduction bonuses.

But Haste is a must for any DK, especially Blood. U can also be a real nuisance for healers. However u won’t find urself topping charts, though on some non-healer games I’m quite often top heals - as u have so many leech / healing abilities.

I don’t mind Unholy from time to time, but Blood is my favourite for PvP, arena and bg’s. Ur leech / heals will out do the extra damage u take as a tank.

For Blood - think Haste + Mast / Vers.

Check out that mastery rundown thread posted a couple of posts earlier, Jadefire and Bop discuss dk stat prios pretty extensively

frost fever doesnt get buffed by haste but rune regen does, for frost I would go mastery haste or mastery/vers. You play like a ranged spec dotting the other team with Frost fever and pulling vulnerable players into your team to kill them. You also keep ppl slowed with chains and if you spec into it rooted.

I prefer the root pvp talent over the stun one for frost since its a lower cd and works with chains of ice.

Generally I'd recommend:
1) getting stamina to a place that is comfortable for you
2) maximizing primary stat
3) going for quantity>quality on secondary stats.
4) For frost specifically, I'd say Mastery>Vers>Crit>Haste would be the priority if you are having to decide.

And the root PvP talent is definitely what you want.

Found that a frost DK who can get ~33% crit ~22% vers rest all in mast while going all in on strength gems can perform surprisingly well. High strength builds in general are better than high mast builds for FDK after testing a bit ago because of the way stats scale, high mast vs high strength is a pretty big trap but going high strength is always superior (you do turn into a bit of a glass cannon though). Also +3 weapon damage > sader because dk just doesnt seem to proc sader that often..?

That statement is just wrong.
On a pure Auto attack basis, even then is Crusader still stronger over 60 seconds. So +3 weapon damage does not even make up for 45 seconds of no strength buff

Some1 gotta tell me how haste benefits any DK spec during the first 9 rune expenditure other than GCD, maybe abit higher chance to proc fallen crusader/crusader as well ? Haste doesnt increase frost fever or blood boil damage either or reduce their damaging duration.

How does it increase your healing ? you can death strike abit more often, but it wont increase your blood drain. It wont decrease your blooddrinker CD either, only your channel time. Won't vers that directly increases ur drain and increases defense as well benefit you more than haste ?
Anyway. my stat prio in open world is
Vers = mastery > haste for frost and unholy
and in BG it's
Vers = mastery = haste for frost and unholy.
I'd say for blood i would choose Vers > haste > mastery.
You'll get all the crit you'll need from tbc socket pieces.

Do you know how dots work?

The short version is that all dots have an interval timer and then a duration.

So for Frost Fever the duration is 24 seconds and it has an interval of 3 seconds. So when you get haste, you reduce the interval so the dot procs more often. So haste does increase the damage of Frost Fever (or other dots) per cast, but if you are just repeat spamming it doesn't matter anyway

So you are right on DoTs generally, but the thing is that WoW is weird and doesn't follow its own rules. Haste doesn't actually work with frost fever last I tested. Damage doesn't go up, duration/tick interval doesn't go down.

That sounds like a bug since both Wowhead and askmrrobot say it should be affected by haste

pretty sure haste only works for dots on mana classes. atleast thats how it used to be, non mana classes would instead regen their not mana faster.
