Microsoft's acquisition and the future of WoW

macroshit's got a QA department? did i miss something?

First Blizzard improves the API for using gamepads with WoW, then Blizzard spends time cleaning up pointless details within WoW to make it more family friendly (to ratings boards), and now Microsoft buys out the whole shebang. Taking bets on whether WoW makes it to the XBox. As much as I'd love to see that happen, I believe the console version would fail, because WoW is too unintuitive to attract new gamers.

given how toxic the internet's become (thanks suckerberg, thanks for nothing) i wouldnt slap anything but a mature rating on any game that isn't like, strictly singleplayer :NotLikeThis:

huh. be right ironic if they got gutted and left for dead like they'd done to smaller companies.

Upon close, we will offer as many Activision Blizzard games as we can within Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, both new titles and games from Activision Blizzard’s incredible catalog. We also announced today that Game Pass now has more than 25 million subscribers. As always, we look forward to continuing to add more value and more great games to Game Pass.

The fantastic franchises across Activision Blizzard will also accelerate our plans for Cloud Gaming, allowing more people in more places around the world to participate in the Xbox community using phones, tablets, laptops and other devices you already own. Activision Blizzard games are enjoyed on a variety of platforms and we plan to continue to support those communities moving forward.

Yep

hell yea! give me warcraft 4 as a mobile RTS

i could see that.
...how could you have both pinch to zoom and multi troop selection tho

I think we'll see a change to the subscription model of WoW to something more in line with ESO. WoW will come to Game Pass, and the base game may become F2P. In recent Activision-Blizzard calls, they've stop mentioning expansions and have referred to "premium content" so perhaps we'll see yearly updates via DLCs and 3-4 year updates via expansions and then a subscription gives players access to all content during their subscription window. I'm curious if they'll restrict F2P PvP by having weekly/daily quotas. Maybe PvP will remain free, but the meta will require gear from DLC/expansions.

Sorry, I meant all content up to level 50.
eh, I guess its possible. people have been predicting it for a while now. But I just dont think theres enough money to be wrung out of this game that theyre all too interested in shifting the subscription model they currently have.

I'd almost say we're more likely to see them just make WoW entirely F2P, release the occasional DLC for it and move on to WoW2

Microsoft means "cracked version" of everything in my country. I'd love to see cracked monthly subs. Nothing change for Murrica and Europe but this means FREE for us. (MID. EAST 4 LIFE, inflation rate 40 percent/year)

I can't see Blizzard creating a separate game for WoW2 given the fiasco of Overwatch 2, but who really knows at this point. If anything, I could see it as an expansion - something like FF14 ARR. We're certainly getting WoW on console, which means slower APM, simpler class design.
