F2P Iceberg

Cloak - well there was 10 armor that people started using in MoP when resist became GFd, so all cata twinks had resist and new twinks had 10 armor, except belf rogues and hunters because of the belf enchanting trait they could get +1 agility.

Trial code - afaik it was the only way to add f2p accounts to your battle.net for linked people for awhile atleast.

p2p bug - well there was 2, the first was an exploit someone found where they used faulty credit cards or something and became half p2ps for like a day before blizz cancelled the purchase when the card didnt go through. The second was one of those free holidays where blizz would give out free account time to everyone, one time they did it and f2ps got it too. So f2ps became p2ps for that 1 weekend.

Dubbs - Also had a copy cat like 2 years ago which made for a great thread.

Nevmind - Also made videos playing mage in cata.

Puddle Jumper, a Deepwind Gorge achievment for falling down a certain distance without dying that f2ps could complete outside a cave in Southern Barrens.
I think I kind of remember Dubbs now and the puddle jumper one is just painful, can't believe I forgot that one. Also, the other cloak enchants lmao. Oof.
I also started working on an updated iceberg so get ready everyone
Nice yo.

Was fun thinking about all that crazy stuff haha. It's been a long strange wacky ride, for sure.

You could add Queuing Spree, f2p 19s, felforged gear, maybe honor to justice points boas, Burgy's hat, and of course as others have mentioned you gotta include Goblin Surveyor Jr. they were annoying but memorable.
Maratian didn't bot
Good to know!

Whelp, here goes, I guess. If anyone is interested.

Skillpatch - Rifle Commander's Eyepatch, originally an Alliance only helm, one of the few helms F2Ps had access too. Horde had to farm LFH, so you would always see a lot of hats on horde. The helm became a point of contention (the fact that the patch pretty much hit capped you added fuel to the fire) between Horde and Alliance players leading to the term's usage. Skillpatch is a pejorative used when discussing Alliance hunters who at the time were OP and easy to gear (and people seemed to roll more hunters on Alliance to get the patch) but came to be used to in reference to any Alliance player that utilized the Skillpatch.

F2PAddon - An addon created by @yasueh that united all F2P players who had it installed, creating a makeshift community. As well as allowing players to whisper each other due to how the addon worked by adding people who had it installed to your friends list, thus bypassing the restrictions. Now it has been replaced due to the community feature in-game (as far as I know). My favorite part of the addon was logging in on Sundays and you would see 40-50 people in chat hoping to strike it big. It would get kind of crazy.

ßabydoll - A prominent achievement and rep hunter from EU. They go hard in the paint. That's all I really know. Never met them personally.

Vets - Veteran accounts, which are F2P or trial accounts that have been activity and then have become in-active. At the time of its inclusion into the game it was a much bigger deal. Now, with the addition of higher profession caps it's more of a convenience (in my opinion).

AGM - Arena Grand Master, a formerly very OP trinket that was highly sought after due to the high amount of stamina it provided and its high absorption on-use effect. You had to fight to the death in Gurubashi Arena a free-for-all battle space and loot the chest that spawned in the middle every 3 hours, 12 times. Before I started playing I think it was very different but I can't speak on that. Now, it is rather pathetic... for now.

Raids bug - I can only assume this means when F2Ps were able to get into Icecrown Citadel and maybe some other raids. I just remember always seeing a bunch of level 20s outside of the instance. Everyone wanted to get their grubby paws on dat shirt, thee shirt, Precious' Ribbon. I mean, yeah, you can be best in slot but everyone knows it's about being best in show! And, of course, the ever alure of being the first and maybe only F2P to have the reins of Invincible (standing on a rock doesn't even compare)! Raid bugs would continue to be a running bug with low level twinks even as we speak, unless something has changed recently.

DK Glitch - Someone discovered that you could make a death knight on, I think, a few certain realms. Then after creating that one you could login to any death knights you created (I think, it's been awhile). This opened up all kinds of achievements, mounts, and titles (Yarr Bloodsail Admirals unite!). It was like Christmas for any F2Per who was trying to get everything they could. Did I mention that once you logged out, that was it, you had to start over? Oh and it seemed like the glitch would make you randomly disconnect. I still feel physically sick whenever I make a new death knight.

Aerie Peak - Wow. I mean, where do you even begin with this one? Aerie Peak has been my home realm since I started playing F2Ps in Cataclysm. It was the true home of the F2P community in the US. With the help of the F2PAddon, it was home to essentially two guilds, Alliance F2P and Horde F2P. Both communities had a friendly rivalry and they would meet up, do events, help find chests, and all around got along great. It was constantly active with people from all over and they were super helpful and welcoming anytime someone new joined. I don't want to dwell on this one too long, bit too personal but needless to say, there was a lot of unforgettable people who called Aerie Peak their home over the years.

Walnut Stock - Before F2Ps had a 1000 gold cap, they could only carry 10 gold. So, Walnut Stock became your... stocks, I guess. You invested your excess gold in Walnut Stocks, kind of a bad investment if you ask me. But hey, seemed to work out okay when you needed to buy something. I'm sure people still use them.

24s & 29s - The bracket used to be 20-24 before being changed to 20-29 (which, I think it used to be back before my time). 24s and 29s, generally outgeared F2Ps to an almost painful degree, this combined with premades made it very hard to be competitive. But F2Ps could hold their own and when F2Ps brought their own premade... that's when it got really interesting!

+1 to All Resists - Why, only the best (and only, I think huehue) cloak enchant for F2Ps! At a time went hunters (skillpatch and non-skillpatch variety) were barrelling towards you in the gulch every bit helped and maybe just maybe it helped with the five explosive shots you took to the face simultaneously. Probably not though.

Trial Code - Another one a bit before my time. I believe this is when Blizzard would give out those little cards with trial account codes before they made trials unlimited and created what we know today as F2P. This is also how Kale (mentioned later) and some other players had old grandfathered gear and items.

Bramble King Staff - A lean mean beatstick machine, primarily wielded by those meanie hunters (but also by warriors, druids, monks, and really anything that could use it). It was bugged and dropped at a higher level, making it stupid OP, this combined with the OP hunter toolkit and power level... hurt... a lot!

Maratian - A notorious botter, at least that's what I heard/remember or maybe a straight no-lifer as they were the first F2P to get the Bloodthristy title as far as I can remember. I think people later said they didn't bot but I don't know. They played on EU servers. *shrug* It was highly talked about subject in the community and on the forums.

Tabard of the Scarlat Crusade - Almost a rite of passage as a F2P. A highly sought after tabard back when you didn't have access to all the beautiful ones you do now. It required a carry or a hunter stacked group and would later be grandfathered for a little while.

P2P Bug - Suddenly, for a brief period, some older F2P accounts became active accounts. They could do pet battles, level, and of course probably the most coveted feature for a F2P in all of WoW, use the mailbox!

Dubbs - I believe they used to make WoW videos. Don't know too much about them.

F2P Namechange - The ol' delete your character, make a new character with old name. Then be met with the inevitable "you need to change your name" upon restore. Crafty AND frugal. Tis the F2P way.

Alphasky - A well-liked EU F2Per. Don't know much about them personally.

Chest Farming - A time honored tradition, were a F2P would go into the wilds in search of sealed boxes in hopes of getting that sweet, sweet loot. Oooh yeah, we're talking about Magician's Mantle (stamina for dayss), Diamond Hammer, Thorbia's Gauntlets, Feet of the Lynx, etc. @Shft had made this amazing guide and no doubt it was responsible for helping many F2Ps find their Magician's Mantles. I distinctly remember opening up chests over and over and over and over until someone would get there to loot it. Getting good loot from a chest was a big deal.

Lofi - An OG Aerie Peak(er?) who was an avid achievement hunter and one of the few people who could group people. Lofi carried quite a few people through the Headless Horsemen (myself included) so people could get their titles. Really nice person.

"The Hallowed" - As mentioned above, it was possible for F2Ps to be invited into a dungeon group thus allowing them to kill the Headless Horsemen (back before it was scaled down like it is). At the time, Bring Me The Head of... Oh Wait was the only achievement gated behind a level requirement. But due to this bug or possibly an oversight, it was possible to get, for awhile at least. Luckily, now it's available again.

WSG Picnics - Is the match not going so well? Or perhaps you just see someone you recognize on the other side? Well, that's what the Romantic Picnic Basket was invented for! At least in the mind of myself and many other F2Pers and twinks from all across the brackets or so I like to think.

Nevmind - I'm guessing this is an EU person. I don't know.

First F2P on This Rock - It was in fact, a rock outside of Orgrimmar. The rock thing became somewhat of a meme, I believe, kind of like Afkale.

Solvogero - Friendly and helpful F2Per who ran a blog about the F2P experience. That's kind of all I know.

The Trial Journal - Don't know this one must've been when I was taking a break or something.

Kale - Fastest bubble in the bracket. Nicknamed Afkale for his habit of rushing mid and immediately afking when his health dropped too low. Quite the bracket meme at the time. We used to see if we could kill him before he could bubble and /afk, it was like a side quest. Also known for his sick grandfathered gear, Chausses of Westfall, Verigans Fist, and some other stuff. But mostly the whole afk part. Seemed like a nice dude though. What a meme.

Standard Scope for Non-Gnomes - I think this was you would go to Gnomeregan and loot boxes so you could get a Standard Scope, which you could only craft as a Gnome due to their Engineering skill increase. Profession caps, man. Profession caps.

Firebane BiS in Cata - Firebane Cloak, a Boe that provided fire resistance and stamina. That sweet sweet fire resist, add that +1 resist enchant, you might survive some of that Cata era huntard damage.

D3 and SC2 Trials - I think this was kind of a big thing for awhile, people from the community would play those trials because WoW gets stale yo. Also, not sure you know this but OP kind of likes trials. Just a bit.

Puddle Jumper - Well, chop me down and call me a tree because I'm stumped.

Æphrodite - Pretty sure they were one of the first people to settle on Aerie Peak as a realm along with Lofi and a few others, I think. They would tell you stuff that you had no clue about like the Sea Turtle! Didn't know them all that well though.

Escape from Durnholde - Someone found out that you could enter Escape from Durnholde on a F2P. Gotta get that rep, fam. Keepers of Time, BABEEEHH.

The Rise of Aku'mai Multiple Rewards - With the redesign of Blackfathom Depths, if you had completed the quest that rewarded blue gear, you could repeat it after the rework. This was kind of a big deal at the time as the gear was really good.

Kor'Kron Satchel - What if I told you, you could get the biggest sack err I mean, bag ever known to a F2P? Pfft, 16 slot bags? Are you kidding mean? Yeah, sure, know you have all kinds of bags but back in the boomer days, it was huuuge. 24. Slots. There was a catch though, you needed to be carried, the mobs were endgame content. It would later become grandfathered and while it's no longer the best bag you can get, it's still grandfathered and a relic of a bygone era... and a sign you might be a bit of a boomer.

Pursefection - I'm going to assume this is a reference to @Purse aka Swagpurse aka the person who looted a Shadowfang on a F2P shaman aka great human being. But Purse also made WoW videos and was an all-around awesome fun to be around person. Great mage too, though he would never admit it. He organized a few events (something about a pleasure palace, I think), if I remember correctly and took probably one of the coolest screenshots ever (I'll see if I can find it later).

He also made this video. Maybe watch it and I'm not just saying that because I have a minor role in it.

[WoW F2P] A day at Darkmoon Faire - YouTube

lolrolled solo record - Beats me. I haven't a clue yo.

Thanks for reading. Please like, comment, and sub- uhh... nevermind.
Good read! Pretty sure I found the Old Hillsbrad thing, we were just screwing around in Caverns of Time and decided to walk in. Here's a trip down memory lane

Nevmind was just a beast and his videos inspired me to try and play frost mage for years. Mad respect

I will definitely add all of these, but you gotta explain what Goblin Surveyor Jr was, I'm totally blanking

Ahh, that's cool! I still don't remember them. It all kind of blends together after awhile. I do remember the Old Hillsbrad thing couldn't be bothered to do it myself at the time, hate that dungeon

Goblin Surveyor Jr. was a quest NPC that would follow you into battlegrounds and attack your target. Surveyor's Beacon was the quest item. I might not have it 100% right but they definitely were in battlegrounds for a bit and would chase you across the field.

The updated F2P Iceberg, I feel like this might be the final form so if anybody wants to dig into this, take it away! Also, while previous explainations were all great there's still a bit of detail here and there that's missing that it'd be great to research (or I could just tell you but where's fun in that?!)

Also, if no aspiring youtubers are up to the challenge within the next month I might record the explaination video myself, because I'm all giddy about this and a nostalgia junkie

I'd add Felix as well for being such an iconic hunter on Aerie Peak.
lolol I had forgotten about this guy. I once accepted a bg pop on my druid and went to grab something or go to the bathroom while I loaded in only to get back to my PC to see he was calling me illiterate and useless because I didnt immediately answer him asking if Id run flags :Sadge:
