So I have been hearing of this game for probably a year now, a friend of mine told me to try it and such. Wanted to hear you folks thoughts and opinions about it. Especially when its a pay2play, dont want to regret such purchase. Should I play it and give it a try? Or forget it?

Why not just watch a few streams / vods and see if the gameplay entices you?

I tried the Asian-styled mmorpgs before (fx. Aion), and they weren't really my kind of thing. They are usually incredibly grind heavy (not in the good way) and the pvp is usually terrible, like just straight up awful.

I did watch Vanguards (known NA ret pala) play it a couple of years back. It looked alright. It has the grindy style to it that I mentioned above, and the pvp looked awful. However, the game seemed to have A LOT of aspects to it, and as a PvE'er, it might be a pretty alright game.

I personally wouldn't play it, because WoW still seemed superior to me, even in the PvE department. But if you're absolutely itching to try something new, then check out the game, then see if it entices you enough to start playing.

I have the tendencies to play games with 0 prior experiences. I like to experience them from scratch, the same way I 1st played WoW way back then. Guess its a bad habit of mine, and i dont really like watching playthroughs in general. I need a solid opinion from someone I actually can talk to and have a fluid Q-A with, not some video or a stream.

It definitely isnt the worst one around, but i dont hear much good things about it.

... The female guardian artwork is hot tho.

It's a very slippery slope with Black Desert Online. It's a very good, cheap Korean MMO action-combat game for $10, that will last you at least 40+ hours. HOWEVER, be warned, endgame will literally consume your life if you let it do so. Endgame is essentially grinding non-stop, either to upgrade your gear to max stats (RNG, sometimes with 0.000001% chance to succeed, and if you don't, your gear breaks and you have to spend millions trying to get it back, which then gets you developing a Trading Network (passive income network that will net you millions, if you play it correctly). The only other form of endgame PVE is World Bosses, and they spawn every 2(?) hours I believe. There is no form of fast travel, you will have to either walk or horse ride everywhere, and thus, forces you to create and park alts for the sake of convenience. Eventually, you spend enough time in the game to shell out some money for the sake of this "convenience". Auto loot is a cash shop item (Pets), extra storage is also a cash shop item, Maids (allows access to bank/AH from anywhere) also becomes a near necessity as you quickly learn you run out of Inventory space, even with the Max Inventory Expansion cash shop item.

All in all, it's an alright game if you play it for the combat, but just make sure not to venture too far into endgame or else it will destroy you. The irony is, there isn't really much of an endgame besides grinding, because it's marketed as a "Sandbox" MMO. If you want to do further research on it, you can search up "Why I quit BDO" or "First Impressions" vids on YouTube.
Essentially it's a non-stop grindfest designed to milk you out of your money with microtransactions. Try not to spend too much money on the game.

EDIT: Edited out the Video because it wasn't as noob-friendly as I remembered it

I haven't played the "BDO Remastered" version but I did play before and I'd say this: The Graphics are fantastic but pop-in is BAAD. I didn't get heavily into the Player Housing bit but I've heard from friends it's pretty good. The single issue I have with these type of MMO's is the Grind. It's not just a grind for something to do when you're bored of other parts of the Game, it's MANDATORY to advance. Non-stop hack and slash just isn't my cup of tea.

Is the grind as hard as, for example rank 14 in vanilla? or is it completely a world on its own in terms of mechanics and requirements? And is the game in the end pay2win?

Why do you ask these tard twinks?
Buy it if you like it !!!

You must play other games , its good for your brain.
Everyone might have some genuine insight on any topic, let it be music, tips, games etc. Even if everyone (me included) are tards. I like to hear and see people's thoughts. Also the game isnt free to play, so I got to be mindful in this purchase instead of regretting it later, im not really solid on income to buy a game whenever I feel like it especially when 1$=16 pounds in my area.

The endgame grind, specifically, is much, much worse, because there is no cap on leveling (or Max Level for that matter, only Soft Caps), and every time you die you lose like 20+% of a level at Endgame. Each 0.01% of an Exp bar will take several hours to grind, and that's if you are in an optimal "Grind Spot". So essentially dying in endgame could potentially wipe out a week's worth of progress. On top of that, PVP is always enabled past level 55, meaning somebody can PK you and take your grinding spot and potentially cost you a lot of EXP.In this game, there are a limited amount of good "grinding spots", meaning that you will potentially run into other players, and if you aren't geared enough, you either have to hope they aren't a PKer, or have a competent enough group to defend your PVE grinding spot from other highly-geared PKers. (Also, EXP is split in a group, so there's a loss of efficiency there as well). As for your last question, that is extremely tricky. BDO isn't inherently "P2W", but if you don't shell out cash, you will spend up to 10x as much time getting to the level of a player that does, and most of the endgame players are whales who play this game 24/7.

So, like I said earlier, try not to take this game too seriously, or else getting to endgame will be super costly to your wallet. If you are interested in BDO's combat and graphics, you can also check out Crimson Desert, but it's a single player action adventure game. It's being made by the same company behind BDO, set to be released in Winter 2021.

Im kind of demoralized now, but I have some more questions if you mind me asking.
1-The PVP side of the game, is it heavily enforced on everyone once they reach high level? Or is there an off switch like WoW?
2-How hard is gathering income in the game? And how long will an average joe be able to get a steady income inorder to progress?
3-Whats the maximum lvl in BDO? And whats the base line level where things become hell and downhill?
4-How fun is the early content compared to the end-game content? And is the end game stuff worth the time consumption to actually strive for or should I just take things slowly?
5-How welcoming is BDO's playerbase? Is it good or toxic as shit? Are they elitists? Can an average joe like myself actually strive to create some relations there?

Hey, so I have actually played this game extensively and have found a lot enjoyment from it. Here are a few of my notes on this:

1. the pvp is probably one of the most high skill cap, fast paced gameplay you will really ever find in an mmo. There are obviously easier classes to play, with a relatively low floor, but also some that require a high floor to even compete at all. I think this is the biggest point of the game is how good I personally think the pvp is. There are large scale wars over territory your guild can get into, this makes you money if your guild wins the war. At very end game there are siege wars, which is the sieging of a castle, which same concept, just a lot larger scale.
2. It is partially pay2play as there are a few essential things you need to play the game efficiently, otherwise once you get these things, you can play fine.
3. The pve and leveling is for sure Grindy, there is no “max level” or “max gear” basically. But it takes a lot of time to get what’s called “soft cap” gear which is essentially all of your gear upgraded to a “tet” or basically tier 4/etc.
4. Someone else said it does take a lot of time and can consume you, this is also pretty correct, but if you think of any other mmo, to be end game/top end, you have to spend all of your free time on this game to get there. 5. ending thoughts, I play the game for pvp, the grinding I just do with watching videos as it’s repetitive and sometimes pretty calming to zone out once you have gotten your line down.

I personally don’t have that much free time but you can 100% get away with playing an hour or 2 a day, your progressio will be slower as is mine, but if you enjoy fast paced, high apm, high skill cap pvp gameplay that’s a mix of an mmo and fighting game, this would be a fun game to play.

let me know if any specific questions on this. I have played it quite a bit in the past and recently kinda started back since I despise tbc leveling to 70 and have finished all my twinks I care about haha

TLDR (jk)
Guess I might actually give it a try then, managed to get my hands on the 30 day trial. Gonna give it a shot and see if its worth the money to pay for. Many thanks for your feed back dude :)

It's not a bad game, for sure, but it was specfically designed to eat up your time and money once you spend enough time in the game itself.

1. There is an On/Off switch for PVP after hitting level 55, but only one player needs to turn it on to initiate PVP combat. E.g. if a player wants to kill you, they can turn it on, and kill you. There is a punishment for this however, called "Karma", players that PK excessively will have White, and then Red names, and will eventually be attacked on sight at many major cities by guards.

2. Gathering income will take a while after hitting soft cap (~58(?)). There are probably 2-3 major income streams in this game. Firstly is drops, mobs drop regular items that you can turn in a stack for for a few thousand/100 thousand gold. But, they also have a chance at dropping a rare item that will sell for millions to other players. Second, is Trading Network. The Trading Network is an entire beast separate from the main game and involves learning about resource management/NPC workers to create an entirely automated passive income network. Over time this creates millions of gold, but does require a massive gold and time investment to get going. Third, is AFK fishing. You can leave your game on overnight and do some fishing to gather items to sell while AFK. You will see lots of people just standing by beaches/rivers in cities, this is why. There are also other forms of income, like getting passive income for having alts (Family Bonus), breeding and selling horses with good traits, gathering/crafting, and marketplace/auction house flipping. For a casual player, gathering + grinding will probably make up most of their income.

3. There is no Max Level. You can grind infinitely, but things become much harder after level 58, and the exp almost doubles after that.

4. End-game is pretty much very similar to what you will be doing during Early-Game. Just grinding packs of mobs and doing rotations, except there's a slight chance of getting an extremely rare item. You can also do World Bosses (extremely laggy) and farm in the Desert or on the Islands after building a boat. I would say, take your time for sure.

5. Last time I was there, the community wasn't too bad. You do have the occasional PKer here and there, but the community was okay iirc. Again, it only gets bad at endgame, because thats when PVP is turned on and the stakes get higher

True, but BDO is a world apart from most other MMOs because it's essentially a endless time and money sink to get absolutely nowhere. Endgame whales spend $100k+ USD on the game and grind 24/7 in a game where there's absolutely no endgame besides PK'ing other players because it's a "Sandbox MMO". In other games, you become a top raider, top player, in this game, you get nowhere

I've checked the gameplay for many MMORPG's and none of them catch my interest.

They seem too backwards for 2021 imo. I doubt I would even get into WoW if I didn't do it in 2005, where the graphics and everything was just ahead of it's time

Yeah. which is why you probably shouldn't go too far on the deep end in terms of microtransactions, or even think you can become competitive with the top players. For $10 it's a pretty good experience though, and it is pretty fun. You get 6(?) default character slots and you get 1 more everytime they release a new class, it can occupy at least 40 hours of your time for $10 alone

100K$ for a game. bruh
Why do you think Cash Shops/Microtransations/Lottery Boxes/etc have become a plague on Gaming? All it takes is a VERY small handful of whales to sustain a Game for years. I'm honestly shocked that Hacktivision hasn't added even MOAR Microtransactions to WoW yet.
