Shadowfang vs Cruelbarb (Now vs TBC)

Hey all, I know that there is a dps loss using Cruelbarn as MH instead of ShadowFang (i.e. duel wielding Cruelbarb).

However, I want to know how much dps that actually is now and post TBC nerf, when shadowfang loses it's shadow damage modifier to it's topend.

Just curious.

Well first of all, Shadowfang doesn't lose anything in TBC.

x2 shadowfang was not a thing in van wow or TBC. predom BIS and build lists had assasin's dagger as OH. 2x wielding cruel barbs for the shear AP boost was recommended, or 1x CB or SF with a wingblade was seriously viable

rogue OH mechanics have been seriously nerfed after TBC, more misses and less damage, almost to the point that a rogue is a 1H wielder and OH just for a stat piece, another poison app, looks, and few abilities that guarantee OH damage

going into WOTLK the shadowfang received a huge buff making them 2x a must have, later all other weapons became level 16 including assasin's blade

Good to know. So, despite not worrying about buying a SF now maybe I should buy one in TBC for WOTLK prep.
[doublepost=1620955582,1620955506][/doublepost]@shanker can you confirm that in TBC the shadowfang loses it's +4-8 shadow damage? Or do you think that's just a wowhead database issue and that link is incorrect?

Blizzard sucks at math and tooltips. We all should know this by now. The info has been around for 15 years from private servers, and a simple "2.4.3 *item name*" google search brings up multiple databases for old cores.

Image pulled from TBCDB.com, it loses nothing but gains ability to dual wield in TBC.
For those rogues that prefer slow, meaty hits; dual wielding Shadowfangs is more burst than using barbs or dagger offhands (Tho it may not be dual wieldable in phase 1, we'll have to see which items are cherry picked to stay mainhands until later phases)

Shadowfang damage remains unchanged on the beta.
tbc.wowhead's shadowfang "update" isn't accurate.

THANK YOU! I've been farming for my SF, but when I saw that data on wowhead... pulled back thinking I might be wasting my time. Thank you for clarifying... now please excuse me while I travel back to SFK.

I believe the only thing that changes with the shadowfang in TBC is the drop rate.

when blizzard further reduced XP requirements again about 1/2 to 3/4 into TBC on patch 2.3.3, they also nerfed alot of dungeons mob and boss levels .(something private servers did not do) pre-nerf any SFK mob could drop SF or AB. after the nerf predominately only bosses could drop a SF. on server i was on price went from 700-1500G for SF to 12000. then into WOTLK when everyone wanted duel SF, price went into 120-160k++ and into paypal cash payments.

another weapon that became a blue into TBC was the thief's blade with +7 agi became a top OH choice. the CB was still a top MH choice with the AP and the 2.80 speed which made for serious sinister strikes for combat rogues.

on the SF blizzard did remove the +4-8 shadow damage, but added +agility stat in it's place, this was done around patch 3.3.5

that was cata

double SF with fiery is bis vs casters and possibly warriors/paladins

SF + thiefs blade 15agi on both is bis in every other situation

wingblade is vendor trash dont listen to anyone telling u its good

Cruel Barb MH + Thief's Blade Offhand is going to be enough for 90% of twinks.

If you plan on premading a Shadowfang might be advised, but for PuG use you won't miss much using a barb.

Patch 3.3.5 was released 22 Jun 2010 WOTLK while CATA released 7 Dec 2010

pre the thiefs blade buff, wingblade was a viable option in OH

Some high miss rate OH DPS and +20HP vs negligible crit and [negligible due to miss rates?] extra pushback.

I don't know how much crit 2 agi gives in TBC (anyone got updated formulas for me?), but I believe the math favors Wingblade if you're dead set on not running 2x SF.

You should really just run 2x SF. It is 100% the most DPS you can push no matter how you do the math.
