Hunter is not easy to play, please help

well at least my spriest is getting a 25% buff to shadow word pain and vamp touch + another 18% to plague. Looking forward to watching hunters die in turtle to dots.

nah he quit hunter on the last page so now its whatever we want it to be.
 
As a healer, you can create macros such that you cast different abilities depending on the target being hostile or friendly, so you can basically squeeze 2 abilities into each keybind.

hunter cannot do that, and hunter has pet target and pet abilities to worry about (petattack, web spray)

so one would need to be creative when it comes to macros.

for example, i have this macro that does 2 things:

/cast Serpent Sting
/petattack

with one click, this casts serpent sting and then send the pet in for attack (my pet target is not always the same as my target as i set it to passive)

i have this other macro that basically slows my target down with concussive shot, and then spider web spray if the target gets rid of the slow, it resets to Concussive Shot after 5 seconds, it also mounts if i am not in combat

but it is not even good because i would need a different macro if i want to slow down 2 people at the same time (my target and my pet's target)

/castsequence reset=5 Concussive Shot, web spray
/cast [nocombat] Striped Frostsaber

I also got the range indicator addon, so now i need to constantly pay attention to the distance between myself and my target

I guess i am just starting this thread to ask for general guidance on hunter play, i now know why some hunters give me an extremely hard time (pressuring me, while sending pet into another player to prevent node capping, etc), because it's a class with a very high skill ceiling.
You could use
#showtooltip
/cast [mod:shift] ability; ability
So when pressing button, ability is used, when pressing shift and same button another is used. Simply cleaning bars and similar abilities can easily be used.
 
And 15% to kill command. That's massive, that's how surv kills.

It is and it is not. doing 115 instead of 100 is not really "massive". It's more. But this is not end game pvp where things are balanced (at least where Blizzard even cares - they don't at the 20s). Hunters are good because they are broken OP... adding 15% to broken OP does not really change the outcome... a survival is still going to kill you in about the same amount of time... 2 seconds.

All this really means is that you might have a few more of the shitty hunters break 200k in really long games that would not have the skill to do so otherwise. But again, 200k will just become joke dps as the bar is raised to 230k or whatever. (And yes as broken dps goes... that number is what matters, because if you are hitting it you are doing your job 100% - regardless of how many traps you throw/bullshit... you are killing things.. a lot).

It's massive in that after spread damage from serpent sting, surv will now burst more reliably with bigger double kill command and raptor. We are talking about saving a gcd half of the time and killing where you previously wouldn't kill because of an enemy healer.

It's not about breaking 200k at all. 200k is predominantly serpent sting with some wildfire bomb. This is not getting buffed. It's about more reliable kills.

Anyway, that's not terribly important. What's important is that this buff is going to increase the spec that is already grotesquely impactful. Alas.

It's not about breaking 200k at all. 200k is predominantly serpent sting with some wildfire bomb. This is not getting buffed. It's about more reliable kills.

The in-game impact for open unorganized BGs will not be as devastating as it is on paper, they will just be "better". Because they are already bonkers... would my enhancement last longer if they actually had a 15% DEBUFF... no... because it's already broken.
 
Well, whoever was already dying reliably to surv (due to not having means to sustain / escape / not being in a party with a healer, etc) will continue doing so, absolutely. Agree.

I am saying that some who could previously sustain, etc, will now start dying as well.

That's not the last round of changes though. Maybe they will buff healers across the board (yeah, right).

I mean, 15% on 3 raptor strikes in succession if you have the energy is a few additional 100 damage per engagement... that is not going to break a holy paladin or really devastate anybody - that was not already going to die. It sucks, but its not DOUBLE!!!!!!!! or anything.

Most of these buffs add up more in something like Arena where you are really focusing over time on 1 target and forcing cooldowns or you are maxing out an enemy healer. Does not really matter for a bunch of jackasses running around like headless chickens in an open free-for-all BG.

You first weaken the targets with serpent sting, then try bursting them with kill command / raptor, adding trinkets and whatnot if you have them. With burst, where previously you were getting 3 hits worth of damage (I am equating abilities for simplicity) you are now getting 3.5 hits in the same time. That's big. It's all about how much damage you can squish into a few seconds -- if both sides have healers, that is. If the enemy does not have a healer (that can actually produce some numbers) you already won, and if your side does not have a healer you already lost.

I get what you are saying about random bgs with levelers though, in those scenarios surv is already so oppressive that these 15% won't make a difference. Agree.
 
Lets just all agree. Bm>mm>sv. Sv is only good cause exploit weapon. Bm still wins 1v1 against ramb. Sv.

Let's just agree that if you play hunter right now you are just screwing up the bracket and are pretty much just a fucking clown. It's not even about some fugtard kid wanting to be the best... its just messing things up at this point.

to be fair, a lot of folks playing hunter have been playing hunter for years. And even some (blightrunner comes to mind) were playing surv before it was cool.

I would agree in any other xpac, but here anybody can go get the bramble staff, get some bc gear and be as good as any other hunter with in 1% because of how powerful it is. So its not really a badge of honor to say "I played this for years".

All the skill is being overshadowed completely by the damage. You don't even have to try. I get twinking is twinking, but at some point get some point... come on... do everybody a favor.

I mean, you judge success/talent by numbers people put up on the scoreboard so we're just gonna agree to disagree on this.

The sheer number of hunters in the bracket currently is a bit deflating, sure, and a good deal of that comes from the ease of the staff. But there is an obvious difference between people who have played the class for a while and people who very obviously just picked it up last week.
