Benchmarks for Epic-ness

JadeFire

Worthless
What do you think the bench marks for having an epic game are for healing/TOTAL DAMAGE per class? I don't care about the circumstances, even if you are farming a yard... irrelevant. Obviously hitting a turnip is out.

When you play hunter it's clearly 200k, if you break it, it is still noteworthy even outside of kids hating on the class... you had to do shit that was well above the standard rigmarole.

As opposed to:

I crap my pants when I break 100k TOTAL DAMAGE on my Enhancement Shaman.

I understand there is more involved with Epic-ness than just damage/healing, but keep that nerd shit for another thread.

edit: fixed some wording.

about 100k dmg or healing is where i start to remember your name after seeing you a few times.

I do not care what the scoreboard says as long as I win the game that is the only thing that matters.

yeah true, if i see you solo or duo defending a base well it doesn't matter your stats because "they also serve who only stand and wait". to be fair i'm not everywhere and don't always see it, but they're appreciated.

Seeing 3 digit thousand numbers is always epic, although it gets legendary when it contributes to a win, at least in the "I healed my team on that point, therefore we won the BG" way

Total healing / damage is a wrong measure.

I know you said that you don't care about the circumstances apart from hitting the turnip, but the circumstances are pretty much all that matters here (as long as people have just a bit of gear).

You mentioned hunters and hitting 200k. The #1 factor that determines whether you hit it or not is uptime. The uptime depends on whether (a) the enemy team has enough healers to keep the bodies you hit up for the majority of the time (if you kill them, your damage stops), and (b) your team has enough healers to keep you up while your targets aren't dying and soaking damage. The only way you hit big numbers is if you find yourself in stalemates the entire bg. If you win fights you don't hit big numbers. If you lose fights you don't hit them either.

I am a fairly new hunter with non-BIS gear, just something fair, and I hit more than 150k for five games. My record was 168k. The only reason I didn't hit 200k is because the enemy was dying too fast, the duration of the fights was fairly long, but there were like 4 minutes worth of gaps that could be put to good use. None of the games in which I hit more than 150k were tough. They were somewhat close, sure, but the execution wasn't hard at all.

So, yeah, I get that 200k is somewhat unusual, but it isn't unusual in the "this guy slaps" sense. It's unusual in the "this bg was full of stalemates" sense.

The true criteria of being good - in my opinion - is whether you won or not. It's much harder than just playing the objectives, too, as I said in a different thread if you try doing this blindly, you are going to lose frequently.

as a healer .. i think it would be great that your whole team died zero times in the entire game .. none died

when you have been in bg since day one .. after so many years .. you wont care whether you win or lose .. in some games, you notice some highly geared players literally crap farming enemies and ignore objectives .. and you will always hear some players in your team saying obective objective .. they are after wins, cos they need to lvl up and get to end game .. twinks have all the time in the world, they are going nowhere .. they are staying in the same bracket for the rest of their lives .. they are here for the fun, winning is just a tiny tiny part of the fun

Least deaths. Most objectives
yeah i agree least death (if possible), highest dmg, highest direct kill, highest hk all at the same time on the same character .. clearly a dps cannot also have the highest healing .. so healing is out.
[doublepost=1617184627][/doublepost]if you can single out the strongest enemy player in the opposing team, who may be among his group, get to him and kill him, regardless of whether he has healer healing him or not, that will be an epic game

least death (if possible), highest dmg, highest direct kill, highest hk all at the same time on the same character

least deaths = hi stealth
highest damage = see my post above, hi stalemates
highest direct kill = hi specs with burst and / or execute, bye all others
highest hk = hi whoever stays in a single ball of death the entire bg
at the same time = hi random case of all stars aligning (which in reality will consist of the other team having no twinks at all and you being the only twink on yours)

Just saying.
[doublepost=1617189405,1617188702][/doublepost]OK, a refinement to my ultimate measure of skill which I think is as objective as possible:

What matters is the winrate in bgs while queueing solo interchangeably for both factions (one game Alliance, one game Horde, one game Alliance, one game Horde, etc - this is more complex for the EU because there are different language groups, but sticking to the English-speaking group is good enough, it's sufficiently big and diverse).

Whoever has this higher is a better player. (I am also going to be cocky and say that all other measures are bollocks. :) )

For me, I evaluate a game on a combination of deaths and big plays made. Did I get a sick FC kill? Did I root that healer out of LoS of our kill target and to swing the momentum? Did I get a clutch warstomp to swing a fight? The more of those plays I can remember at the end, the more likely I think the game was epic.

Conversely, if I spent a lot of time dead, I usually think less of the game. Unless the death led to securing an objective.
