SL Guide and FAQs

People are probably aware of this but just in case they arent...

Assuming that empire gear gets nerfed, youll still have access to azerite gear through a couple of quests.

Take the chest from the HOA introductory quests. (it currently has a req level of 40 but id assume this will also get fixed)
Take the shoulders from the Tirigard Sound quest line.
Youll get a helm from the Turtles scroll quest.

this something new on BETA? that sorta blows the hope of a seriously twinked 49, as well as other brackets other than f2p (if it continues). vet20 will be hard, to chromie time thru various expacs, you will have to do it unsubbed

question: if you have XP off can you chromie time? does it auto turn your XP on?
I don’t think the issue is Chromie time. I think that room the people phase out depending on whether u have done some of the intro quests for Legion and BFA. I noticed the NPC disappear on me also during some of those early quests.

i would imagine blizz going into SL requiring new player accounts to require some or all BFA completion. since they are making them complete BFA 1-50 on a player before they can use chromie. but not anything locked to legion.

has anyone tried to turn off XP then try chromie time?

For the people who like to play vet occasionally/casually, but don't wake up every morning and put on their monogrammed twink cape and polish their xpoff membership ring. What is the chance that if we just do nothing or very little and wait a month or so to see what ACTUALLY happens, that all this bullshit will just work itself out?

Do we really have a high percentage chance that we might come back in a month from prepatch and find a bunch of giggly kids with no longer obtainable grandfathered HoA and Legendary Weapons, running around, or is that low?

In whatever opinion there is.

In multiple expacs especially over the last few years, we have seen time and time again the very small prepatch and post patch windows where select items are available that will set the tone in terms of haves and have nots over the course of the expansion.

Notable examples.

  • legion warforged prepatch
  • Bfa ilv 180s from rares
  • Bfa northrend engineering
Unfortunately, in my opinion only, the time now, through prepatch and SL dropping will be extremely critical for having the most optimal vet out of the gate. You can be casual. But you better be keeping up with the news on ptr etc.

This xpac will be the single biggest change to twinking the game has ever seen and while I generally am of the "wait and see" opinion, getting prepped and ready for SL hardly requires some heroic effort and I certainly never had to take my monogrammed twinking cape out of its display case to do it.

1) If you are an agi/int user, do you have 18 marks of honor per gear set to buy gems with?
2) If you are a potential FC, do you have 18 Steady Talasite gems for your FC set?
3) Do you have a complete Black Empire set for your chosen armor class, just in case?
4) Do you have the mats necessary to rush northrend engi?

On launch day, go purchase socket gear in Shatt and gem it. If you have the gear, get your belt tinkers. Get your HOA and your artifact weapon. Literally less than an hours worth of work.

You can literally get prepped for launch in an hour and then be sorted after launch in an afternoon. If thats really such a tremendous effort that you'd rather not do it, then just also make sure that you dont go whining about anything you might have missed out on.

twinks bone their own, blizz reacts or ignores
all of the below were reported blizz predom by players who twink. missed out or didn't want to do the effort
  • legion warforged prepatch
  • legion item 100 white weapons, MOP high item level trinket, etc
  • Bfa ilv 180s from rares
  • Bfa northrend engineering
one twink from this site did a long thread on the unfair advantage the unfair of twinks in BGs using his main, and ironicly got people on this site to support and back it.

after the BG split, i saw him on a vet20 with a minor premade in a BG (was on same team) i believe he was streaming at the time. i asked if he was ______ from xpoff, he said yes. i asked i thought you were against twinks with levelers, now there are no twink brackets again, said not his problem, i said you advocated for it. he said yeah, it was part of my plan, i was unsubbing, did not want 29s in the bracket...paused, said ...it worked.

in WOTLK, it was predominately those who played 19s that advocated for the split and assassinated all other brackets. only reason 70's survived was WOW was BC capped thru WOTLK, CATA, and half of MOP. i would almost bet those in classic wow that wanted a what was a WOTLK nerf of ZG enchants was 19's, and will go back into action for naxx, and again if TBC classic is a thing.

for the last 6 years. three major squishes, do you think levelers have complained that crusader enchant has never been squished and missed by blizzard Devs? about mark of satyr or elemental force? blizzard reacted on those two

”New players and guides will be able to recognize one another in the chat channels and by icons above their characters' heads that only they can see. Upon reaching level 20, new players will continue the journey ahead on their own and will no longer have access to the Newcomer Chat.”

Sounds like level 20 f2p cap to me ngl

This has potential to be exciting news for old 20-39's that scale below the 'new f2p' bracket that blizz just mentioned, as anyone who has a pre SL 21-47 wont be restricted to login that character. This means we won't need to subscribe to wow in order to get xpoff games with 20-39 twinks that are created before SL. If anyone plans on twinking in SL but doesn't want to sub to wow any longer, it might be a good idea to at least enchant some of your gear if you have an old 20-39 twink in case the f2p bracket moves to SL 20's.

Exciting news, hopefully Conzil is right!
That means we should start to level our wannabe SL twinks to lvl45(in bfa), if I get it right?

Lvl 20, man, that makes classes much more interesting.

20 allows for a lot of content. Wouldn't be mad if 20 was still f2p level.

In any opinion, will level 20 cap make Hunters even more stupid due to their abilities, or will everybody else's abilities help narrow that gap?

It's extremely contradictory and looks like 20 is a clear typo to be honest, based on all the linked info in multiple locations.. if you click though AND READ level 10 is mentioned multiple times as the end of the start area and then you go into BFA Azeroth/Chromie time.

In specific... you end the start area at 10 and then talk to Chromie... players with allied races (aka NOT NEW PLAYERS) start at 10, or DK 8, and then do the same thing and leave the start area at 10 proceeding to BFA/Chromie.

Still looks like 10, outside of one dubious at best piece of info.

Cant say for sure, but some classes get A LOT of their kit at 20, so I'd lean towards the gap narrowing. That said, Hunters get a few new tools too.
