Thoughts on double mage in premades

Mages are obviously extremely valuable given the long length of polymorph in classic. The meta right now is to run 2 mages in premades. From what I've seen, 1 on D and 1 on O can be really effective (cc'ing enemy priest etc). However there's been a trend towards having both mages on D which really tends to drag on the games. Is this going to be the permanent meta? Is anyone else annoyed by these games? Is it worth considering banning double mage for premades until TBC?

People should innovate how to play around double mage instead of trying to ban it. Too many guilds have the mentality of "if you can't beat it copy it/ban it"

GSC are the only innovators in the bracket currently, everyone else takes the easy way out.

Mages are great, but definitely not worthy of a ban. Bans exist for things that are blatantly overpowered or severely detrimental to the competitive experience - I don't think 2 mages on a team crosses that line. Like Hass said, the thought process should be "what can we do to combat this?" way before it becomes "should this be allowed?"

i dont think it should be banned, but it deifinitely slows down the game if ur not prepared for it.

the ppl using 2 d mage are hiding their flaws that can be easily exposed if u defeat double d mage.

Yes, double mages defending EFC is annoying. Got to take them out first and hope for good usage of https://classic.wowhead.com/spell=1044/blessing-of-freedom and https://classic.wowhead.com/spell=527/dispel-magic

Don't be concerned however, Mr. ConcernedTwink. Mages won't be e-banned from your imaginary premade rules...

Quite sure the point of having 10vs10 twink wargames is to have long, stalled games, not eliminate what causes the stalling. Don't like it? Then queue full premade vs pugs/nontwinks

Deathballs?

So based on the posts in this thread, it's evident that the guilds that always run double mage refuse to have it banned because they crutch on them. Has anyone ever seen a double mage team lose to a single mage team consisting of either double war, double rogue, or double lock? No, I didn't think so either. GSC experimented with double lock for a few weeks and we saw how that turned out. Right now, there's a stale meta where the game is too slow and full of double 30 second polys and all the teams need to run double mage in order to even have a chance. I'd love to see teams running single mage comps being viable in this bracket but the top guilds are too scared to run any other comp because there's a culture of "being scared to lose". It's sickening to watch. No wonder this bracket is dying. I'd personally love to see another twink tourney where double mage is banned. I guarantee it will turn out better than the last CWS hosted tourney.

HAVOC beat cws twice with 1 mage vs. double mage. First game with double rogue, second one with double rogue, double warrior, 1 hunter- oof.

Make it happen dude.

Yeah sheep is broken in classic, but double mage wasn't the meta until people started deathballing (minus cws, they ran double mage d off the bat). It's unfortunate, but the very easy counter to teams diving your FC with 10 players is to have a second sheep/nova. It's lame if teams aren't sticking one on offense, but you don't see it often. I'd be open to 1 mage games, as I think it allows for interesting comps and more variety.

lol. the irony

What are you trying to gain here besides being the biggest prick of the 19 bracket?

Certainly have nothing to gain here lol.. Did you read the post? I'm giving examples of 1 mage comps beating 2 mage comps, and providing some context behind the double mage meta in premades.

You never tell the full story, and you're full of excuses. Be better..

alright michelle, it's not a story it's a screenshot.. again with the irony
