Mouse that can bind left/right modifier keys?

I'm in the market for a new mouse. While I'm admittedly pretty picky, my one absolute hard requirement is that the mouse must be able to bind left/right modifier keys e.g. left shift to one button, right ctrl to another button, to support my ridiculous macros. My old mouse does an amazing job of this and carried me for years, but I'm seeing increasing hardware problems and they long since stopped making this mouse.

Do you use a mouse that supports separate left/right modifier key bindings? Shout out!

Maybe try purchasing another of your old mouse like, from the secondary market?
Have you looked into that?

A good suggestion, and indeed I have, to no avail. Plus, the "latest" drivers were made for Windows 7. I'm lucky they work in Windows 10, but I'd rather get a modern mouse if possible.

Well. Rip I guess. I am rather afraid that I cannot help you here for I only ever use $10 mouses (I am pretty much utterly inept at mouse movement, so. xd)

maybe try one with a tilt wheel, i have an old logitech G5, i tilt the wheel to the left to target nearest enemy, tilt the wheel to the right to target nearest friendly, and the button on the side i use to target myself, the 2nd button on the side i use to use to target the tank when i healed raids way way back.

Are those buttons/tilts you hold down, or hit once to make a target switch? Since I'm binding modifier keys, I hold the buttons down, and holding a tilt sounds awkward.

no i dont hold them down, i actaully cycle though enemys by hitting it over and over to find enemy healer, on mine its set so if i push the wheel down (not tilt) its set to jump, so tilting it just like a click

Would you be interested in rethinking your control scheme? I'm currently experimenting with a science project where I use an Xbox Elite controller to play WoW.

A little known fact is that Shadowlands will be shipping with native controller support.
There are already a number of third party applications that attempt this with varying degrees of success (I'm experimenting with ConsolePort).

Why do this you ask? Well for starters the idea of tossing WoW on the ole 65" flatscreen in the den and kicking back on the couch is very appealing. Especially with regard to open-world questing and exploration, WoW is a stunning game to experience in such a manner. And with properly designed macros and smart target mapping, it may even be possible to PVP at a decent level.

If you are interested in my findings I can perhaps post them later, but I thought that a different way of interfacing with the game would be a fun alternative to a mouse & keyboard control scheme!

I thought about that (and the video you linked helped illuminate the possibilities -- thank you). It appeals even more so, because I hate, hate, mice. The whole concept of a mouse is a stopgap technology until we can come up with something better.

But with that said, the depth of what World of Warcraft's interface enables us to do remains unparalleled. No other game I've ever played makes it possible to use mouseover targeting, target-of-target, or macros with combined modifiers. This game has been around for ****ing 16 years, and other MMOs still haven't caught on. ...Anyway, my point is that for as much as I hate using a mouse, the mouse remains the single best targeting hardware available. There's no way I could tolerate using a control stick on a console controller for targeting (which is also why I don't play FPS games on consoles). Everything else, from macros to modifiers, could all work great (because it's still WoW, after all). But precision aiming? I'm bad enough with aiming as it is -- I don't want a console controller to provide an additional layer of angst.

That was a long way of saying that I think a console controller is a great idea, but it just happens to run face-first into a major weakness of mine, so I wouldn't be able to do it. I appreciate you suggesting it, though!

I know the new deathadder (v2) has that option, if i've understood your request correctly. I bought it and it says every key is programmable including RMB and LMB.

I think you mean something different. Razer's Synapse 3 software allows for reprogramming the right and left mouse buttons (which is what I think you mean), but it doesn't allow for mapping the specific (for example) right-ctrl and left-ctrl keyboard buttons to a mouse button. You can only map a combined "ctrl" to a mouse button. Synapse 2 used to allow for left shift and right shift, but not for ctrl and alt. If that changed, and you can map right/left ctrl and alt, please let me know!

Seems to allow it just fine

That's encouraging -- thank you for posting that!

I downloaded it and installed it on a virtual machine to check it out, but couldn't get it to work without a logitech product attached. I'll see if I can find one at work to borrow. Thank you for the links!
