EU+US Vet “Vetting” F2P

Slasher

Veteran
I’m relatively new to the twinking community. Over the past few months I’ve experimented with a Vet account and have enjoyed it very much, BUT the gold investments and clunky sub/Unsub mechanics have lead me to become intrigued in the F2P 20 twinking alternative.

My question is, do F2Ps “compete” with Vets? Or will I notice a substantial drop-off in terms of damage/healing output by losing Enchants and Epic BoEs and always be sitting at the bottom of the leaderboards hating my life and getting graveyard camped by Vets?

Has anyone who’s tried both prefer F2P? And why?

You could always just... stop subbing your vet account.

But to answer your question, it depends on the class. Melee DPS takes a pretty big hit. But F2P healers can hang in BGs quite well. Koinz comes to minds as a f2p shaman that carries pretty hard. F2P marks hunters and arcane mages still put out considerable damage. etc.

F2P and linked F2P can both compete with vets. When it comes to power differences, you should be looking at comparing specs / classes.

The difference between a vet rdruid or rsham is relatively small and both are forces to be reckoned with even without enchants. The difference between a vet enhancement shaman and f2p enhancement shaman is much bigger, the vet has access to enchants, consumables, allied races, etc.

However, if we compare a f2p druid to a vet enhancement shaman, the f2p druid will most likely come out on top performance wise.

What I'm trying to get at is f2ps are more than viable and can compete with vets, but you need to chose your spec more wisely than a vet would. There is far less opportunity to make viable "hipster" specs, per se.

yea if u go heals u will be ok if u know how to heal, if u like dps marksman hunters and arcane mages are decent in f2p dmg wise, but u can dps and do like like cc and play more of a support roll, like warlock fears and dots or frost mage slows and sheeps, there ways to be effective, depends on how you want to play, remember their are gonna be people with the white gear they started the game with on ur team so does it really matter? as long as ur enjoying playing.

So I played fairly dedicated F2P for a few years. This was right when free WoW was announced and we had a big surge in activity. We were all based on Aerie Peak server, etc. It was great fun.

A lot has changed over the years since then. The rules/parameters of the bracket are constantly being changed and tinkered with, both purposely and just as collateral damage from Blizz's latest hare-brained schemes.

I've tried some BGs recently on my F2P toons and found that the bracket is way more unbalanced than it used to be. There are many more ways for subbed players to abuse the system and truly twink their toons. This is just my opinion, but the bracket is not fun anymore. I won't be playing until it changes. Hopefully, positive changes come with Shadowlands.

Probably because you're a pure f2p warlock, that's asking for a bad time.

F2P is definitely viable, and for some reason has more access to professions while unsubbed at level 20 than vets (I think an Armor kit is locked for Vet but not F2P). Class diversity is definitely at an alltime low, so top classes are MM Hunt, Arcane mage, Fury Warr, Rsham/Rdruid. For F2P, MM Hunt, RSham, Arcane mage are definitely viable, though you are at like a 30-40% disadvantage compared to a vet. Not horrible, but if the Vet is playing poorly, you can definitely beat him. Fury Warr needs x2 Sader enchant to be good, so not great chances there as a F2P

vets can run out of speed pots, f2ps don't have a worry in the world as they ditch profs maxed @ 100 hourly.

Beating a vet arcane mage as a f2p arms warrior is super rewarding even if its a bit rare, I would recommend ppl try it out just for the fun of it.

Alot of melee dps isnt going to be the best on a f2p acc. Can you make it work, sure but not to an optimal performance level. Feral/guardian are probably the best f2p melee dps because weapon dmg scales so well in cat/bear form with +1 wep dmg and bis. I think enhancement shaman can burst decent as well.

For ranged dps almost all of them can work pretty well besides meme specs like fire mage, bm hunter shit like that, honestly anything can work if your a good player but some specs are just better. If your a good player ppl might think your a vet tbh.

For healers dont listen to keyboard warriors on forums, all of them are good at healing effectively.

Now remember there will always be a decent power gap between you and a vet so you have to be more aware and play smarter to have a big gamechanging impact.
