PTR Our own Shadowlands Alpha Q&A

There are a handful of pvp talents that "require" a level far below when theyre actually accessible. No idea why.
And there's Reputation rewards that require a Character Level lower than what you can accept the Quests to gain said Reputation and buy said Gear. The same used to be for certain Quest rewards, back when they had Character Level instead of iLvL on them.

Click it and read bro it says req lvl 10.

Yeah, it says that for BfA as well. It's the spell you get by picking the Heart of the Wild PvP talent—first available in the 40s.

1) It might be just Blizzard throwing random level numbers, maybe because their internal systems require some number to be put and the devs just want to be quick with it. No problems, because the real requirement and its intended level are perfectly sorted out.

While I agree that's not redable for the outside observer nor elegant when you see the clockworks behind, I guess it's most likely irrelevant. There are some strange behaviors (ex. Portal to Old Dalaran being accessible to party sync'ed mages at lower levels than it is obtainable), but the main problem is that some things can only be reliably tested in-game.

2) Additionally, the unusual level requirement might be a smart design trick for better player experience in some way.

For instance, https://www.wowhead.com/spell=175682/natures-control is a hidden druid spell learned at lvl 1 that is replaced by their lvl 60 talents. The trick is, since the talents replace Nature's Control rather than giving new skills, the player can make a single macro for all of the different spells by typing only /cast Nature's Control.

And since Nature's Control is lvl 1 spell, if Blizzard needs to switch the lvl 60 talent row with the lvl 45 for Feral only, it should still work for all specs. No new changes are needed and time is saved.

But I digress, more Alpha answers soon.

I'd love more information about classes at 10, what seems good. Hunter looks very strong, surprise. DH also looks really good, but this is all from reading wowhead abilities. Some actual game play testing would be awesome.
mages have counterspell, warriors have pummel and hamstring, disc priest also seems strong

It seems there’s a lot more CC and classes have more of their “core fantasy” spells + their masteries—but!!! At level 10 pretty much all spec-identity has been whittled away to just one level 10 spell differentiating each spec.

in other words, all the mages have the same spells now except for one different spell. Gone is the idea that Arcane plays completely differently from Frost and Fire at 20/10.

So that’s my own nit-picky complaint right now (taking into account that everything could change tomorrow ofc.) Spec fantasy is just boring now. Then again, should I really be complaining when even in BfA, there’s usually only one spec per class that you’d actually want to use in PvP?

So yeah, nit-picking. If getting more CC and skill-based spells like Counterspell are the outcome of gutting spec individuality then I won’t look a gift horse in the mouth!

from what i understand, you cant character copy yet? so this would require leveling a ton of characters to ten and I guess... dueling other people?

I pretty much figure we wont have information like this until beta

Anyone know a rough estimate of how many months after alpha they'll release beta?

Battle for Azeroth started restricted alpha testing in early February 2018. Public beta testing began in late April 2018. Blizzard revealed the release date on April 5, 2018 alongside a collector's edition.

Right, character copy is disabled, it was there for a sec as a mistake and then removed.

Rogue has like a full base toolkit, which is nice.

Hunter is next level retarded

But they dont get sap lol.

But yea, things look a little wild and wooly at level ten.

Mages lose arcane missiles (thank god) but 4 stack blast still looks potent. Druids lose a bunch but gain roots. Warriors have what appears to be almost a full tool kit. DKs look good as hell. I was telling... someone (i forgot) that it looks like a bunch of classes will play similar to how classic 19s seem to play. A lot of support classes, few true DPS but they hit hard, etc.

but I've also seen folks point out some shit that I think will shift a lot of that around, so Im not too sure how solidified it is. For instance, the first talent is at level 15, not 10. Which feels weird. They have an "instructional" dungeon in the starting zone intended to be level ten but tanks dont get taunts till lvl 13? stuff like that.

Are quest items upgrading at all? If you had an upgraded item, what happens to it?

From DesMephisto's stream, it looks like at least the drops from "rares" can go epic: https://clips.twitch.tv/EnthusiasticNaiveTubersGOWSkull

SoulSoBreezy was also able to character copy his live character during the slip, basically the item level just dropped. With the last stat squish, we can probably expect similar results (51 seconds in):
[doublepost=1588455742,1588453643][/doublepost]These might also be some interesting items to look at for their procs as they're not standard slots:

Ring of Incomplete Digestion

Direhorn Studded Belt

Direhorn Studded Britches

Sauroscale Cloak of Adaptation

They all come from "rares" in Zandalar, these paired with some of the proc trinkets from WoD-BFA might be interesting in lower brackets.

Yeah, but Hash, we all know real Hunters are BM.....
No Wrath......
No Exotic Beasts.....
What’s a BM without being able to turn all red and angry.....

At what level do you get 5% stat bonus for wearing all your armor type? On retail its at lvl 50 right now

Thought this the other day. Still said level 50 on beta wowhead, which I assume is incorrect.
