Best Hunter Pets

I am about to start working on my hunter now that my rogue is complete. Had a couple of hunter pet questions for you seasoned 39 hunters out there. Which pets are considered the best choices for 39 hunters? Also, at what level should said pets be trained? Is there a certain order or process that one should use in acquiring their pets? Thank you for your time.

wind serpent / armored boar from rfk / broken tooth.

train them at the level they currently are since they dont automatically level up to your max level and then keep swapping them as you level up to keep them all max level. Make sure you tame all the other pets that have other abilities to get their max ability for lvl 39(bite rank 5 etc)


wind serpent is good for utility(ranged dps still does dmg even though you can be deadzoned) can also put warriors in combat sooner etc.

BT is huge caster pushback with 1.0 atk speed.

Boar has a charge/immobilize for 1 sec

All have their uses and you have to decide based on your playstyle tbh. I will eventually switch to boar but I do like the pushback from BT on healers since mages and rogues(good ones) are hard to find who kick/cs things other than hunters aimed shot lol(i sadly see this far too often)

Just make sure you keep lvling them up as you lvl up, you just hit 38 - lvl all your pets to 38 ( it takes 5 bar of your xp to lvl the pet up ) if you want to lvl 3 pets to 39 once u hit 39 itll take 3/4 of your bar, doesnt include rested or quests, hit 39 go grind to lvl your pets

Is there still room to level all three and still get Mark of the Chosen and Vanquishers Sword? The pet leveling at 39 and still having a few quest to do at 39 was a concern to me. Thanks for the reply.

do death runs for anything quest wise. I got a late jump on pets at 39 and still got both so yes there is. Pay a 60 to just kill everything to the spots you need and then you run in die to the mob you need to get. dont release and then 60 kills while you are dead and loots and you roll need on item.

I wouldn't personally push for three pets, but you could technically do it and still get Mark. Each pet requires 1/4 level XP unrested and Mark of the Chosen comes out to 6k I think (with no XP from kills using death method). If you are Alliance you have to do Vanq sword quest at 39 as well so things start getting tight. Going for two pets seems more sane to me, although I personally don't think you need anything besides a boar.

I have a little under 5 bars left if you think you'll be cutting it super tight.. you really wont. That is also with horribly messing up the whole pet thing myself lol.

yea honestly 2 is the safe bet, like Outofspace said, boar is all u need the charge is so good - half the time i dont even use the pet for dps he just follows me around till i need to charge stun someone. Only other pet id maybe get is BT just to fuck with casters

BT can basically solo the lower lvl clothies. Boar charge is great to open up more space for kiting. Doesn't one of the spider pets drop a web/net? Not sure if that was a vanilla/classic thing or later on.

My prob with BT, besides no Charge, is that she's way squishier than a boar as well. Cats get blown up so quick if you send it off on it's own, while boars can take a bit more heat and still wreck a low caster.
