First, is there a server I should be on? Does being on the right server provide any benefits?

Second, do you (...ahem... WE) get together? And if so: [1] how? I thought you needed to be subbed to form a group. [2] for what kinds of activities? I read a lot about doing the 20-29 bracket BGs. Is PvE content of any interest to people? (What's the F2P version of running heroic 5-mans?)

I'd love to join in some mischief.

Bleeding Hollow if you want twinks, any RP realm if you want peaceful and dead farms. Realms don't really matter now we're all pretty much connected.

The overwhelming majority of us have 2nd accounts that have gametime on them so we can invite ourselves and our friends. If not then get someone else who can invite you to invite you.

When grouping mostly bgs, maybe some dungeons.

Yes, plently (if not the majority) of f2ps prefer to spend their time collecting reps, achievements, toys, mounts, titles, transmogs, etc. The goal for them is to push a 20 to it's absolute limits. If you want inspiration I'd peruse through this thread:

There's so much you can do in terms of PvE going through it all in one post just isn't reasonable.

Meh, hardest dungeon we can walk into is Gnomeregan, and that can be two manned with ease.

Here's another thread you can use to connect with more players like yourself.

This is, like, the perfect response.

Questions answered, and additional resources pointed to. Thanks for pointing me in the right directions. I can go do my homework now.

Cheers mate. Thanks.

(Additional perspectives still welcome.)

Let's not forget about the venerable F2P-Addon (most-recent update: here)! Included among its many features is the ability to form F2P-groups by "tapping-into" any subbed character that's also using it. Unfortunately, its prevalence decreased dramatically once "BNet Communities" became available, so "your mileage may vary"... ;)

(What's the F2P version of running heroic 5-mans?)
There's a lot of ways to interpret that question... but I'd say the most "literal" equivalent would have to be F2P-BRD! :D

I'd love to join in some mischief.
We've certainly got plenty of that here... welcome to the asylum!

welcome to the right bracket!

I don't really have anything to expand on these other excellent answers but just wanted to welcome you to the party!
