Mage talents: Impact vs Imp fireball

I am considering giving up impact for imp fireball.

I like using fireball openers and find the rng factor with impact greatly reduces it usefulness. Not to say that the stun isn't nice, and definitely helps when trying to down an FC but wondering if you all think its a worthy trade off?

I used to run a build in 49s that focused on damage from fireball, and I went 5/5 in both impact and imp fireball. The other mages in the bracket poked fun at my build (they all preferred a scorch-focused build), but I did quite well with it. I prefer a more mobile, stun-focused scorch build now, but it really comes down to your play style.

Fireball is a luxury, even with talents. Scorch is an amazing spell efficiency wise and synergy with Impact is off the charts.

Fireball openers are excellent ofc, but how much of a benefit are you getting from talents when you can free cast an opener anyway?

Stuns are the most savage effect in the game, give them up at your own peril!

After a weekend of testing I've given up on imp fireball. When I made the original post I was just theory crafting. After a couple of evenings of wsg I totally agree with Outofspace. Casting fireballs is a luxury. When I did cast it was usually for the lols.

I played one game without impact and hated it. Specced back for the next game.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone.
