Farming for Shadowfang

It's been years since I've done this and I can't for the life of me remember if we farmed chests or mobs (or both). Obviously full clear would be the best, but I'm currently killing time as a level 34 rogue while I wait for some RL friends to catch up.

My question is, would stealth running chests in SFK be a decent way to farm BoE twink stuff? A full clear takes some time, so I'd rather avoid that. If anyone can jar my memory on which mobs we farmed in Vanilla that would be awesome.

Farm your auction house now while it's early... farm the instance later.

If memory serves...there are some mobs at the end that are high enough level for it to drop. I believe the reasoning was that when SFK was changed and the higher levels removed, it made it almost impossible for Shadowfang to drop.

I am however a firm believer in opening all of the locked chests to farm blues. This is where items like Mindthrust Bracers will pop.

Sort of... back in the day, shadowfang wasnt as rare. What made it rare was as you said, when the mob level was changed, only the bosses (and maybe a couple other mobs?) were high enough level to drop it. In vanilla I think you can farm the whole instance

Mob levels were changed in towards the end of TBC expansion

Chests do not drop Shadowfang, but many BoE blues in the 18-25 range will drop from chests.

If you are after Shadowfangs you will have to farm the instance mobs in some way on another.

shadowfang and assasins blade can drop from any mob. keep in mind, the shadowfang was not exactly a god mode weapon in 19s until WOTLK era when blizzard actually buffed it, and kept it buffed into CATA, MOP ganking all other blue weapons to level 16 until BFA where they level scale on drop

rogues build guides of van wow and BC dual wielding SF even at 19 was not a thing till WOTLK. off hand damage and benefits from speed was not nerfed along with a high miss rate that retail has now.

Shadowfang and other SFK unique BOEs have a 1/10000 chance of dropping from every monster in the the dungeon.
