Classic Wow hypothetical

I've played on the classic servers during their stress test windows and I can tell you this. It's everything I remember it being. Both good and bad.

I think a good number of people on this forum are seriously underestimating the work they'll need to put in to get an even halfway geared twink.

While I agree with you, people tend to overstate the amount of dedication and time required to twink in vanilla. Anyone who played f2p twinks in cata/MoP will soon realize the effort that was required there surpasses that of vanilla twinking by far.

this is not a humbebrag but rather an attempt at showing what can be done with under 4 days /played.

No help from higher levels, all gold and items farmed on the character in question. 80-90% best in slot prior to rep items.

Good looking twink. That said, 80% best in slot is pretty easy. It's the last 20% that starts to suck.

For you and me? That might not be a big deal. But alot of these folks crowing about classic have previously said F2P (IN THIS XPAC) is too tedious. So I'm a little pessimistic about them even getting to a wsg, much less enjoying it

Blizzard™ decided to re-release Classic simply because their players (and accountants) convinced them that doing-so would be sufficiently profitable...

...If there is eventually enough "demand" to convince them that TBC/etc. would also be, then they'll re-release them too; if not, they won't.

There's not much call for our "predictions", it'll be up to their accountants' "reactions".
The reason it’s worth money-wise I suspect is that there’s enough interest and you only need to create Classic once then just let the money roll in. More than a decade later there’s still tons of interest. Even if interest fades a decade from now, it’ll be well worth the up-front cost and the low long-term cost. Especially since Blizzard is doing well enough just by selling Legion babies their store mounts and pets, they probably got a few extra bucks to risk and a high chance they see a good return. Just how I see it.

Many classes aren't very gear dependent at all and the last 10-20% will merely hold a symbolic value. If we look at 29s: mages, priests, hpalas and hunters will perform just fine in subpar gear. You can run a good 29 mage in whites/greens and he'll still outperform half-decent mages in 100% BiS. I'm all for min-maxing myself but if you choose your class accordingly you can put very little effort into gearing and still be as competitive as someone with full bis.

Going back to my previous point: anyone who chooses not to twink on classic retail because of the effort required to gear bases their decision on a faulty assumption that's often reproduced in this forum section. Unless you're only interested in playing a specific bracket and class combination that requires you to pretty much be best in slot (29 warlock for instance), you don't need a main to twink competitively.

I think, that WoW Classic and Retail WoW will become, something like Runescape 3 and Old School Runescape. Two different games, and the older versions (WoW Classic and OSRS) will be more popular than Retail versions :)
