Classic Wow hypothetical

i can’t help wondering:
When Classic ran it’s course, what then?
Re-release TBC and so forth? Do they forever keep it Classic?
Or will Blizzard ‘create’ shelved content?

I can certainly imagine it will be a great succes, but will it have a predictable lifespan?
I keep thinking in circles, so please enlighten me with your ancient wisdom.

I think after the first grand marshal/highwarlord is achieved and once the raiding content is cleared the first time there will be a dip in the playerbase until more stuff is opened up. There's going to be a large number of people/streamers competing for that coveted 1st to get this or that title. The first few months will be glorious but after that I'm skeptical.

It would be cool to see scrapped content like hyjal or lol 60 karazan but I wouldn't hold my breath. It'll be very profitable for blizzard at first but it'll all depend on what % of the player base sticks around.

Blizzard™ decided to re-release Classic simply because their players (and accountants) convinced them that doing-so would be sufficiently profitable...

...If there is eventually enough "demand" to convince them that TBC/etc. would also be, then they'll re-release them too; if not, they won't.

There's not much call for our "predictions", it'll be up to their accountants' "reactions".

This is why requiring an active sub to World of Warcraft was a good business move on their part.

1. Classic fans will have to support the current game they hate.
2. Modern players may go piddle in classic when they are done with a content patch rather than unsub and wait for the the next new content patch.

I'm 100% convinced we'll eventually see TBC servers and I'm at least 85% sure they'll let you copy your toon from classic t TBC.

Agree 100% if their subscriber metric shows more continual subs post Classic and 85% even if it just shows more stability patch to patch! :p

I'm rather more sceptical, tbh.
There's just too many opportunities for Vanilla to fuck it up, either by Blizztards^(TM) being their namesake or just naturally because people realise how disgusting it actually is when their nostalgia goggles fall to the ground and break, leading to the cancellation of further Classic plans.

When Classic ran it’s course
Did vanilla private servers die in years? No, they're still active.
Vanilla content is like diablo 2, red alert, age of empires, heroes of might and magic, baldur's gate series etc. It is our generation's classic. There'll always be someone who wishes to play them again.

Quit /miss again /return /reroll something different cycle

starting with tbc or wotlk classics would've been way smarter an idea imo
then again its been blizztards for far too long now, better leave it to the pserver guys, they'll probably fuck it up less, so there's that

I can almost guarantee you that that will cause a major shitstorm.

Would definitely be interested in them finishing up the initial planned and partially worked on things. I don't know if I'd trust them to implement new ideas though. Even OSRS's system isn't perfect as the polling system has turned it into max level slayerscape

that's very optimistic
Naw, its extremely cynical. They want to maximize participation because participation = dollars. Saying "Due to the success of Classic, we're gonna open up a TBC server but everyone has to start from 1 again" minimizes that participation.

I'd do it because Im a weirdo and TBC was my jam but I'm pretty sure I'm alone on that.

You are DEFINITELY NOT alone on that lol

edit: oh i actually misunderstood what you said i thought you meant copy your original TBC toon from way back in the day, i was like wth?!! lol my b

bla bla bla, you keep bringing up the "nostalgia goggles" which makes you sound like a blizzard employee from 2015. Why be a negative nancy before it's even been released? Give it a few months and then spew your pessimism.

I've played on the classic servers during their stress test windows and I can tell you this. It's everything I remember it being. Both good and bad.

I think a good number of people on this forum are seriously underestimating the work they'll need to put in to get an even halfway geared twink.
