single drop source boes

Unfortunately, you could save the salvage crates and open them after the scaling started - and it would scale up to 60. So you need a non-original and non-60 version =(
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but that reminds me of something that I've noticed...

If I go to the auction house and look for "uncommon armor with a lvl-20-req", I might find about 30 items:
  • 10 will have an ilvl of 25 (presumably old/unscaled items)
  • 10 will have an ilvl of 23 (presumably new/scaled items)
  • 10 will have an ilvl of 20 (WTF?)
Also, all of that "third category" (including some items that I didn't think dropped anymore) is being sold by a single character. Is this a known phenomenon? What's going on there?

-----

Edit: My curiosity got the better of me, so I went back and researched this character's listings... turns-out that they're currently selling dozens of ilvl-20 items that were available in the Big Crate of Salvage (all items which would have originally been in the ilvl 20-35 range).

This suggests to me that "an unusual rlvl" on an auction-list is not by itself a reliable indicator of whether-or-not an item "drops"... you actually have to examine how it's "scaled" to rule-out salvage.

PSA, if it hasn't already been discussed in the thread, this post should definitely get stickied, as it contains extremely relevant information at the moment. Great work!

Also would be nice to clean up formatting (make it look like a Necroaqua guide), etc., on the OP's first post for ease of use.

working as intended
i dont conform

but thnx 4 the support

Has Abomination Cleaver been confirmed yet? The reason I ask is because since relogging after AFK I have a 19/19 version in my bag. It was scaled to 19 before the patch but had an ilvl of 18 iirc. I killed the rare for the drop. Haven't tested recently.

There was discussion here about the Dr. Witherlimb items about 3 months ago... sounded like they still drop, but they don't scale, and can't proc Epic (yet another annoying exception to the "general rules" of such).

Give's some hope I guess.
I wouldn't believe that for a second. Auction sites show less than a dozen Foreman Pants in circulation on all US Realms combined. They're not dropping. (Sorry.)

Checking wow auction sites I can see different variants of the pants... For example this is currently on Silvermoon's AH (EU)

Is this because of a patch with a char logging in and getting newly scaled items?

I'm not going to claim that I know the "cause", but if you look further-up on this forum page:

Yup, the crates are to blame. The ilvl 11 pants dropped from crates (or from the original mob). If you opened crates AFTER scaling happened, then it would scale to the char who opened the crate(aka, 110+). Since the items scale based on the zone - several level 60 versions are available. In the case of Foreman Pants - the zone scales to 20, so that is the max level scaling.

So if you see anything that is NOT ilvl 11 or 20, then you've found something interesting.

Just to add more "data" to your theory... a few of the crate-item listings I previously mentioned had three versions visible: the original GF'd ones, the 20//20 ones, and some 60//60 ones (all for the same item).

Since none of those have the proper "drop" scaling, it would appear to contradict the "scales to zone" determinant (unless there's a third wonky "source" that we're not accounting for).

They shouldn't be 20 and 60. The items would either scale up to 20 or 60. Do you have specific items in mind?

The only one I remember clearly was seeing Beastwalker Robe listed at 20//20, 29//34, and 60//60. I imagine it wouldn't be too arduous to track down some other examples if you think it'd be helpful.

I also once posted a 19//19 Humbert's Chestpiece which at the time I thought was proof of it "dropping", but in hindsight that rlvl/ilvl ratio seems inconsistent for such.

If beastwalker has an ilvl 20 version, then it may drop. That is unexplained. It might be a restore bug (same way ppl scale defias BoEs).

Humberts does drop.

The 20//20 Beastwalker Robe was part of that huge group of rlvl-20 crate-items that I previously mentioned a player had listed. Perhaps they were somehow able to open crates on a lvl-20 character?

Humberts does drop.
I realize that... but I brought it up because a "dropped" uncommon Humberts Chestpiece should've had an ilvl = rlvl+3, which my example did not.

Both of these suggest that "something" is creating non-dropped items with a variety of levels... and not just crate-items "scaled to zone".

I saw a hunter with epic humberts

In old Blizzard's Database does it appear as upgradeable and do you know the name of the hunter?

The chest can drop from two mobs in WoWhead, but I believe only the rare is in the game nowdays.

Humbert now scales, and a green would be ilvl = rlvl (blue would be rlvl+6 and epic +11). A non-scaled humbert's would have a ilvl of 28 and require lvl 23.

If theres only a single person listing level 20 versions of things, then they may have found some mechanic to abuse or discovered a secret. Interesting...

Has it been confirmed it can drop epic? Or do we need definitive proof?
